Drow blinded by fire spells

Post by Sightbringer »

I'm curious why seemingly any fire spell can now disable (blind and daze) my level 34 Drow for 3 rounds without any save or check whatsoever.

I can understand the logic behind a drow being exposed to bright light causing them blindness temporarily but for god's sake -- daze for 3 rounds?

So I'm raiding a city and a lvl 3 Fireball dazes me long enough so I can get KD'd by a melee char and totally owned without having any check or save!? Oh, that's awesome.

If this is the price to pay for having the true drow SR, I'll pass on it. It just angers me that now some nobody with a lvl 3 Fireball or a wand can trounce a lvl 34 drow that took a hell of a long time to level.

Why would anyone in their right mind make a drow now? They're +3 ECL and crippled thanks to this change.

Here's a suggestion -- take away the daze. Also, glad your post was so useful... great post. Keep up the helpful commentary.

i think they need to put in some prot from trickery tokens so no one has to hear Auril when he talks...we can just run thru the traps like animals ;)

seriously though....the daze might be too much. all a raiding person in SL has to do is pop the gaurds with one of the spells and its toast time for all of them. something else is like sight said...if he's raiding with a high lvl char and gets a fireball shot at him by a lvl 6 char...some melee is going to whack him till he's dead. thats not even bringing into your flat footed from daze and the rogue start in. if you don't think a rogue can sneak a mage to death in 3 rounds...you should meet mine.

Yeah but think of an upside though ... a high level drow can be a fighter with max 45 SR !!!! thats awesome .... and also if your a mage learn how to counter spell .... easiest solution ......

indeed but i used to take my drow on raiding yuanti coz he can resist their numerous fireball spells. now, it's not even worth it.

you can't resist the new effects with SR...which basically means for 3 rounds your a beating puppet. you can't counterspell a fireball wand...which means for 3 rounds your a punching bag. you see the picture yet?

I got an idea that might be more reasonable. for 3 rounds the character loses 3 natural AC, 5 AB, 15 spot, and gains 10% spell failure.

thsi will make them very vulnerable, but also give the drow/duergar a fighting chance.

that sounds ok.... i do agree that a lvl 3 fireball pounding a high lvl drow is a bit over the top. I do agree that the drow SR is powerful and need a balance but this is a bit far. Do these effect the other SR races? This is just pounding the drow into the ground without any thought to the other SR races.... wheres the balance in that?

However i dont want these same penalties to happen to those races either but allowing a lowbie mage take out a highbie drow is too far, with no save none the less. I reckon a less drastic penalty, which still hampers the drow slightly but doesnt make him/her absolutely useless, or at least some way to fight of the daze, perhaps making the save relative to their lvl in some way. So in highbie battles it is affective but stops a "lvl 3 Fireball" from disabling a "lvl 34 Drow".

Just my thoughts. No hard feeling intended :D

P.S Just one thing... once this is figured out and the drow is finalised dont forget to change the "Playable Races" page.

Subrace SR is in no way powerful. Any equal level caster even with no spell pen feats has a 75% chance of getting past the SR. Bring in the Spell Pen. Feats and now the SR is beaten 100%.

As for 3 rounds daze... I don't even play drow, but I think that that is a little much.
1 round daze
3 round blind, -3ab, -3ac, -3 uni saves, -10 skills

And maybe let this effect only happen once per turn underground and above ground night time, once every 2 turns above ground day time (takes eyes less time to readjust to the already brighter surroundings.

What's the formula for determining if a spell beats SR?

Are all the guards in Menzo drow?.. I might have to get a fireball wand and have a night out on the town
