Shields
Shields
I think (if this is even possable to scrip) on a crit the person had a chance of destroying the other guys shield. That would help out the duel wielders and 2 handed weapon fighters and maybe even bring the cleric class down a bit in the melee area. It would be a cool touch to the game as well.

If ya really want to go there, all items should have a certain amount of upkeep, if a set of robes has tears in it, it should not protect as well. Maybe lowering the AC modifier. If a shield is "Undamaged" then it should protect well, giving you the full benefit of the AC. If it is "Slightly Damaged" it should lose some of the AC modifier and not protect as well. Same with weapons, a sword should have its full enhancement if it is sharp and "Undamaged". If it has nicks and is dull "Damaged" then it should lose alot of that enhancement bonus, seeings as how it is not as good of a weapon.
We can also throw in another category there "Unrepairable". When an item has not been up kept for along time and used alot it becomes "Unrepairable" and is useless, a new item will have to be used.
So the categories would go like this...
UnDamaged Full Benefits of Item
Slightly Damaged -1 To Enhancment, AC or what ever bonus is given.
Damaged -2 "
Corroding 0 "
UnRepairable Item is no longer able to be equipped
Keep in mind a Crafter can repair these items, but the DC gets larger the lower the items properties get.

All you see is Smoke...

Eh, I've seen NWN servers that have upkeep before and my opinion is, "Meh." IME, upkeep really doesn't weaken or slow down experienced players at all, while providing a hurdle for new players to overcome. New players are usually cash strapped, and don't know the best equipment, making them spend upkeep costs just adds another money sink for them to pay into.

IMO, this is a great idea.JesterOI wrote:It's easier than that.
Just remove all Bonus AC from shields.
Readjust MOB AB's correspondingly.
That's all it will take.
Small and large shields could still retain an enchantment to make it so towers aren't the only ones anybody would ever want to use but still, they have their uses too.

I've never found it to be fun, no. One server I tried for a while, Narc's Bonds of Blood, had a massive upkeep system. Armor, shield and helms and helms had charges (about 10) and occasionally, taking a hit would knock off one of the charges. What really made the system suck [censored] was if you were fighting an opponent about the same level or higher than you, nearly every hit would take off a charge or so it seemed, and in one instance, my crappy suit of armor was destroyed in a fight. You could repair it, but that took cash (or ranks in Craft Armor). And worse, there wasn't a lot of gold floating around, at least for noobs. So you had to pay to keep your equipment repaired, while saving up for some halfway decent gear when money wasn't all that easy to come by. I never liked the idea, and it was one of the reasons I stopped playing there.Flailer wrote:Plus, it just doesn't sound...fun.
