Oh, and btw, the above rant is in no way intended to call anyone who plays a dragon a sissy or a noob. In fact, I think many of you long time players who would agree with me have also made dragons. Dragons are probably the best overall solo build toons but I still maintain that in a party, they aren't as good as many of you think.

I usually like to make things exciting for all when folks are making runs such as a ec run (which most can do in there sleep by now). If i see a dragon i tend to make it a real exciting ask the folks on north! most folks who run dragons go IM BORED alot! so i try to make it excioting for them again by dropping my favorite lil 4 pack of citidel reavers it is amazing what these lil dorfs can do!
i personally will never build a dragon i dont see the challenge! id rather have a party the is wel rounded. fighter type, caster and bard is lethal as a team! anyway my 2 copper pieces. and if you are curious come by north make your dragoon and you too can see what a 4 pack can do

Anyone who says "I'm Bored" has it coming imho especially within earshot of a DM, dragon or not. Never struck me as much fun laying face up, or down, on the pavement/floor/dirt because "i'm bored".
Then again, maybe they are trying to get a DM going

lol.
6-8 months ago I had a group of dragons (6 if I remember right) asking me to bring it on.
They had just finished a monster smash and wanted more. So I dropped 6 XiFu(or maybe Gilon,
not sure now) and they promptly got hit with 6 hellballs. 6 dead dragons in less than 30 seconds.
After 3-4 minutes of laughing and comments, all agreed that taunting a DM can be a disaster.

Personally I think dragons are a nice novelty toon but I get far more fun and satisfaction from building a toon that will work well in a party. I also like finding which builds work best and the trial and error aspect of making builds. I find a challenge in building something and then seeing how I could make it better next time. I have over 20 toons in my vault and only one is a dragon and I was one of the last of the group on North to make a dragon. To be honest I only made it because I got tired of having to deal with a dragon in the party (hard as heck to target with a big scaly wyrm in the way, especially as a caster) so you could almost say I built it out of spite.....lol. The most boring thing I've ever done in game is to solo with my dragon, though it is fun to kill G1 with it, kinda like a battle of the wyrms.....lol. I have had fun doing DWP with my dragon and a good Sorc toon but it takes a long time! I have also tried the "pure breed" toons and find them challenging and kinda fun and I will build more of these in the future just to explore it more. So long story short I think that making the game more challenging is something a player can choose to do on their own, but only if they want to.

re: dragons
yeah, what they have going for them is safety. it's a way to be "teh ubah" without really risking anything (like dying).
but as dbosity noted, they're -really- slow. anything a dragon can solo, you can solo twice as fast with a toon designed specifically for the run, as long as you're willing to chance dying if you don't play it exactly right. which leads to my main problem with dragons: they require -no- skill to play.
but people like them, especially new players, so *shrug* I don't have a problem with their existence--they're just not for me.

"IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS"???
.....seems to appear that, with all these "ideas and suggestions" everyone has. DM's still shy away from players ideas.. maybe they are focused on other projects...
...if the devastating crits can be removed, then why can't Dragon Form?...or maybe just keep these epic areas and create a script only alows a party to enter, with of course only one shifter in party.
...just another idea lol that will probably be twisted into something negative,

There is a difference between a DM and a Dev. Most DM's can only do things on the mod like make a monster bash. Its not that DM shy away from ideas but they cant change the mod. Dev's have added allot to the mod to make it better for the players. I believe right now they have their hands full with NS5. Make a challenge for yourself like making a toon from scratch and seeing how far you can get with just the gear you find. Ask others to do the same and make it a party. Even better make it a pure class.

There are very valid reasons for leaving dragons as they are as well as the areas they can go to. In the grand picture we have a lot of players that need dragons to fill their thirst for power and gear as well as some veteran players that play them just because they can.
Don't look at the devs or DMs to solve all your issues with dragons and shifters. If you think more then one in party is too much then ask the party members to not take more then one. Having the devs or even DMs intervene in this case and limit areas/parties or even nerfing dragons effects players across 3 servers. Any change to dragons or their ability to go out as they can now would almost assuredly cause some players to quit and that should never be a goal when making changes.
While I hate dragon builds for what they do to players that at one time had tactical awareness I understand their need to exist. The Devs have done their very best to provide for every player as best they can. Dragons just fit for some folks.
Personally I find doing an EC run with a dragon far more dangerous then without simply because they have no party awareness and get folks killed while they show off their ability to solo while the party lays there dead.

lol, and can't help saying, after Braticus's comment, there are weak dragons out there too. if you have any doubts, just ask to see a couple of mine Still have fun playing them just the same.
In the long run there is nothing like a 'humanoid' team in getting places though as long as everyone knows their role.

I think that Dragons should always be in the game even though they are overplayed. I think that Jawbreaker is trying to say is that the ideas and suggestions section is obsolete. After all if anyone were going to go up and down the list of ideas and suggestions you can see that not really any of the recent ideas and suggestions have been implemented. IMHO I do not think ideas and suggestions really has a place on the 3.5 forums. Everyone knows the Devs are busy with NS5 so no ideas or suggestions will ever really happen.

I think you are right. The 'Ideas..' section of the forum is pretty much moot. However, that doesn't mean some of the suggestions planted here might not take root in the next generation of NS. Even if the ideas posted here arn't implemented, there is still much to learn and great fun in the discussion.
