Recent events i.e. server crash and major loss of inventory

Post by culinarian_ns3 »

Looking for a course of action here...

two nights ago during a server downtime I was otherwise engaged in the phoenix crypt (already had ec rod, helping another get his), server crashed for more than an hour. logged came back next day and used ec rod out of crypt.
I kept on playing as usual but then yesterday after completing Sabar<sp> quest and returning to CiC, half my inventory had disappeared (including some no-drop items) my newly acquired EC rod amongst them.
I guess what I'm getting at here is... if I beg and plead and grovel, can something be done about this or am I SOL.

thanks,
Culinarian

There is a chance that you've happened across one of the uglier spots in the mod.... that's there on purpose....

those dragon chests will continue to destroy items in your inventory, including non drop items if you're attempting to open them without having a rogue or caster type to disarm the chests first.

many players have unsuspectingly found out about this little *trick* ....
The night... has an appetite.

Heh first time I hit them, me being used to traps disarming after a hit, thought hrm this doesn't appear to be disarming. So tryed it another 20 or so times, my party mate was laughing so hard he couldn't tell me to stop. Eventually I got an open your inventory, needless to say most of it had vanished. I saw the funny side, but then i was about lvl 15 and didn't care. (Yes I was a noob then if it tells you how long ago that was.)

That's an OLD, OLD trap that has been around since vanilla NS 3. If you do not get someone to disarm a Sabar trapped chest, it will eat up a lot of items in your inventory...

Yes, it is not very nice. I lost about 10 items to this very mean trap before I found out.

well, it does tend to keep greedy dwarves from using high HP's as a substitute for Disarm Trap skill (caughgrimcaugh caugh). rogues should love this since it makes them more valuable.

I know this may be exposing myself somewhat but, i thought it very very funny. Maybe you will get a laugh out of it too.

I have been playing this mod for quite some time, and KNEW about the 'trick'. Then one day while gathering up my gear for the Dragonstone quest, I was down there with another who needed some stuff from that part of the map. So I went with him, waiting for my chance at 'Sky'.

Bored, and waiting for him to do his thing, i started hitting this thing. After about 3 or four times, I suddenly realized where I was and what I was doing, and commenced to freaking out. The guy I was with (noob) was asking what had happend, and was worried that he was going to loose some items to. (he didnt realized how it worked) So I am frantically rummaging through my inventory. I carry alot of crap so I never did find out what I really lost. (if you dont know its there, how can you loose it?)

So to make the image complete, Here I was the pro, showing the noob how to do stuff. In anycase, I was humbled, but thought it was hysterical nevertheless. I think it should please Fang that even the guys that have been on for awhile sometimes forget about some of the eccentricities of the mod. It still 'got' me.
