wizard build
hi all, i got my guy up to level 21wizard/1PM. at level 21 i took a level of pale master(as its the last level to start it) after hearing that it was a good boost to casters, but now i hear it will hurt my spell penetration too much. then i went back to wizard to get epic still spell, but am now unsure of what to do. should i just leave the level of pale master, finish up the PM to 10, or scrap the character and rebuild a wizard or perhaps a sorc/pally?

I have a 30 wizard/10 palemaster and a 38 sorc/1 monk/1 paladin, I like the second one best. 10 levels of palemaster really suck for spell penatration. I wouldn't mind going back and making a 40th level wizard, I love all the extra feats, but in the end, the second build I think is stronger.

should prolly work the best , you get extra feat from the fighter level
I would do monk over the bard, you ain't gaining anything specail by a 1st level bard song but the min. 20 wis with NS gear you get (assuming you start at a 8 wisdom, will net you +5 AC, plus you can cleave with you staff

Another thing to consider is taking a cleric level. That will also grant you proficiency with heavy armor and shields, as well as simple weapons. Of course, you won't get the bonus feat from a fighter level, but you will be able to use cleric-restricted gear and scrolls - not sure if that's a big benefit, though.

That is why most people take a fighter or paladin level. Even a paladin level will net you a +5 on saves and the armor prof.

Right, but if you're building a wizard, they're not charisma-based. The original question was about wizard builds, not sorcerors. Something that might bear testing in the dojo would be if the cleric animal domain buffed summons cast as an arcane spell. Again, not game-breakingly powerful, but interesting.

Most people use auto-still spell and a shield, so monk wouldn't be worth any extra ac. But if you're going for a gnome (or just skipping auto-still), then monk's definitely the way to go.

at one point, i tested a wiz/pm/m and ended up with 104 ac unbuffed...but ab was mid 50s i think. i gotta find that sheet....i think it was something like 14 wiz/23 pm/ 3 monk. ill check on that. 22, 23, 24, whenever that last pm bonus is. heck maybe 20..dont remember lol.
had lots of skill pts which i like, but neither spellcasting or bashing were overly effective. good fun tank for some parties though.

Yes, I forgot about auto still spell. I think I went that way on my mage, but I haven'tplayed him in a year, so I forget. But, if you are skipping the auto still route, go with monk. Although, you will next more AC out of armor and shield in this case.
