experience difference

Post by lordvan52681 »

I like how higher levels in teams get more experience than the lower levels, but i think the equation for how much more should be reworked.

Right now, if 2 people team up and one is half a level or so higher, as time goes along that gap gets bigger and bigger. In my opinion they should progress at the same rate, so that if a lvl 2 and a lvl 3 team up (both with comparable xp for their lvl), they will both level at about the same time.

Even taking this one step further and bringing the two levels closer together will help reduce the XP gap and allow cooperative leveling further down the road. As it stands if a higher level character levels before the lower level one their is no chance for the lower level character to catch up unless he joins another party or goes off on his own. Sometimes the lower level character still benifits from being in a party with characters that are severl levels higher because they can take on larger critters but even then a lower level character is soon out made absolete and can't keep up at all in the XP race. Just suggesting that the gap be brought closer together for xp differences to allow the lower level toons a chance.

Good point, I was gonna bring that up tomorrow (trying to keep it to one new idea a day ;-P ). Last I checked (right before the hacker incident) it was still listed in the documantation as being in effect, but i have never seen it.

*edit* found it

Level 5: 19.12 % of 126 XP = 24 XP + 7 XP Group bonus
Level 4: 13.97 % of 138 XP = 19 XP + 6 XP Group bonus
Level 10: 66.91 % of 67 XP = 45 XP + 13 XP Group bonus

This group receives no synergy bonus because the levels are too spread out.

Party 2: Level 7, Level 6, Level 7 fight a CR 10 creature

Level 7: 36.22 % of 123 XP = 45 XP + 13 XP Group bonus + 24 Synergy
Level 6: 27.55 % of 136 XP = 37 XP + 11 XP Group bonus + 24 Synergy
Level 7: 36.22 % of 123 XP = 45 XP + 13 XP Group bonus + 24 Synergy

Notice the big Synergy bonus for the close grouping together of levels. This is probably the most effective way to level, as the level 7s received a total of 82 XP each, which is about 2/3 of their usual XP solo!

And now, the "power leveller" party:
Party 3: Level 20, Level 1, Level 1, Level 1 fight a level 15 creature

Level 20: 92.51 % of 29 XP = 27 XP + 8 XP Group bonus
Level 1: 2.49 % of 127 XP = 3 XP + 1 XP Group bonus
Level 1: 2.49 % of 127 XP = 3 XP + 1 XP Group bonus
Level 1: 2.49 % of 127 XP = 3 XP + 1 XP Group bonus

And, of course, no synergy bonuses to speak of here. The Level 20 is calculated to have done 92% of the work, but since the creature is only level 15, the level 20 doesn't get very much XP for their effort. If the creature were CR 20, the PC would get about as much XP as if he had gone solo (After all, how much help are a bunch of level 1s anyway?)

As for the level difference, you got a great point. I think there needs to be a one level gap, two levels is kidna stretching it. Its really hard trying to level on this server as it is solo, and with the xp difference in levels it makes it really hard to find a group. Either you lose the amount of xp you get with a higher guy, try to find a lower guy willing to sell his xp to you, or find someone your level (really hard).
