Kidnapped!
At the pub in a small town the alewife was tending bar as usual. The regulars were there a total on fifteen or so people. Gerta Cranston smiled as she heard them recounting stories she had heard a hundred times before and these stories grew with every retelling. When she turned a man was standing at the bar, she neither seen nor heard him even come in. He was wearing dark clothes and a simple black cloak with the hood pulled up.
“I will speak with your husband” He said in a low voice.
The very air around him made her cold, without a word she went and fetched her husband. William Cranston was a man of average height and a regular build, the same looks as the many townsfolk. As soon as he saw the man at the bar his face quickly turned to anger. He approached the man and they started talking, they were whispering but hard words being said that was obvious enough. Even some of the patrons noticed and turned to see, many stood up ready to help if needed.
Just then William stepped back he first turned to his customers “All is well, return to your drinks.” Then he turned to the stranger “You have my answer now get out!”
The man stood there for a moment then, turned and walked out without saying another word. Soon after the people returned to their drink and their own stories of epic feats. She went to her husband asking who that was and what was about. He saw the concern and assured he would let her know tomorrow but there was too much that needed to be done tonight.
Some hours after they went to bed she was awoken by a loud crash, jumping up she saw many shapes in the room. She knew her husbands voice he was yelling at her to get out while he wrestled with some people on the floor. She barely moved when she felt a blade against her throat.
“Stop fighting or she dies” The man with the blade said.
He instantly stopped, immediately pleading to them to let her go. Roughly the man picked her up and started moving towards the door all the while keeping the blade pressed to her neck. William watched helplessly as the men in the room started to exit.
At the door the man with the knife stopped and said in a rough voice “You want her back and safe you know what you have to do.”
He could only sit on the floor as the shock passed and reality set in. He was too old now; he knew he didn’t have the strength. Without waiting a moment he ran out the door looking for noble knights to help or evil rogues that demanded pay, he did not care who or why he just needed the help.

Dear sir Cranston;
I have heard of the tragic news that cowardly fiends kidnapped your faithful wife under the cover of the night - and with overwhelming numbers at that (as cowardly fiends are known to do).
I offer you my most sincere sympathy - as well as my help. I for one can not suffer the tormenting of innocent people - hence, I freely offer my help at retrieving your wife safe and sound, good sir.
However, I will need some important information in order to increase the chances of a fully positive outcome in this endeavor. For one, you seem to know this man - who is he and to which kind of organization does he belong to?
Furthermore, and perhaps even more important - what is it he wanted from you?
Stand fast, sir Cranston, and remain strong. I am sure many other good-willed men and women will join in offering freely their help in saving your wife.

William Cranston went into his closet looking for something he has not seen or needed for what seems a life time. After some effort he began to take out his armor, the whole set had been a gift from the people of Avendell. Imbued with strong magic it had served him well the rare times he needed it all those years ago. It took some time to get the armor on, once it was fitted he put his sword in the scabbard, another gift one of the finest crafted swords he had ever seen made by someone who was a master blacksmith by trade.
As he waited outside he noticed different travelers passing by giving him curious looks, they had never seen him armed for battle before. He tried to keep his spirits up occasionally saying hello and waving to those that passed.
He let out a sigh as he looked at the setting sun then he softly spoke these words to sooth himself. “Soon, I know they will be coming to help.”

A black clad figure stepped from the shadows of the inn and stopped before the tired innkeeper. In a soft melodic voice the figure spoke.
"My name is WinterHawk, and my god has spoken to me. Go forth and help this poor soul my God said unto me, so I am here. More are coming Lord Cranston so have no fear. We will get your beloved back for you.
With that spoken the figure stepped back into the shadows.....and disappeared.

William had waited all he could. He knew it would be foolish to run off but he had to take the first step. He went inside and took whatever gold he had, grimacing there was not much they had spent a good amount improving the rooms upstairs. He cursed silently "If it isnt enough for those mercenarys then so be it."
After loading up his gear he headed out, just before leaving he pounded a nail in the door holding a note:
Time is against us and I cannot tarry here any longer. I head to the Eastern Slope there, you will find an inn. There is someone I must speak with come with all haste as I will wait for everyone inside.
-William
He grunted as he looked at the quickly scribbled note.
He spoke his thoughts out loud. "I must leave them more but I do not have the time now, perhaps when I arrive at The Giant Staggered Inn I can send a messenger."

The scratch of claws sounded as a bear cautiously walked acress the worn dirt pathway that would lead it to William's house. Within seconds the scratching sound was replaced by the shuffling clumsy need of human feet.
Jaden approached the door and found a note, she read silently moments later the human was gone.

He has ever been a fierce defender of freedom.
His ... and of course those of others. For he understood all too well that one's freedom ends where another's begins - a simple matter of obvious mutual respect, as far as he has always been concerned.
Not many people would be inclined to give this burly, rough, free-roaming and free-striding barbarian the credit of being capable of deep, considerate thinking. Then again, Beorn Eaglefar was never one to care about the snubbery of others.
Truth be told, only his friends, comrades-in-arms and fellow Melencians have ever been first and foremost in his priorities. That is why he felt at ease within the Melencian guild of The Silver Striders, for the opinions of all mattered and achieving consensus was vital in each and every way - but most of all, it was the easy-going, no-obligation-required gifts of comraderie and friendship prevailing within TSS which ever spoke to him best.
To those who knew Beorn, it was therefore not surprising to see him grab his great axe without a word to immediately set out for Avendell, upon his hearing of the news of the kidnapping of William Cranston's wife.
Indeed, the very act of wrongly restraining one's freedom for whatever reason or purpose was, plainly put, anathema to Beorn's sensibilities.
An affront. An insult. A crime of the highest order.
Hence, Beorn Eaglefar would see the lady Cranston freed from her foul captors ... or die in trying.
As a free-willed man, he could do no less.

Sitting at the table William grimaced as he looked over at the six men sitting near him waiting patiently. He never thought he would be employing such a group, they called themselves trackers but they were nothing short of bounty hunters, willing to do or even kill anyone for a price. They were the best though, he knew that, fallen rangers he called them experts at finding anyone through deepest forest to the biggest city.
Putting his eyes back on the blank parchment he began to write:
Knowledge is the key to success so I will try to impart as much light as I can. In my youth other planes were accessable, several times groups of us would travel there to prove our prowess in battle. (William shakes his head reading that) on one of these ventures we came upon mass of treasure, at the time I didn’t know but the guardian was absent so we had either luck or perfect timing. We took all that we could carry. There were eight of us and the gold was so plentiful I was able to build and open an inn. One of the men found a strange item, I can only describe it as a large seed. It became apparent later but at the time we did not realize. Whoever was carrying it would become ill, very slowly, so many monsters we fought we assumed it was an infection from some beast, or a side effect of using the portals. There were so many explanations we did not realize its true power until almost all of us became extremely sick, many falling dead from an unkown sickness. My son is a wizard of immense power and currently resides in Falme practicing his art. Through much effort he was able to obtain some information. It belongs to some great creature of another plane, it could be used to open a gateway into our world. Wheather it was gathering an army to invade or for whatever reason it had not come through before I could only guess.
What I am sure of is this, if it is returned to that beast, there will be a force of destruction unleashed that I fear none save perhaps the Gods could stop. Once I learned of its power I hide it hoping it would never see light again. I have tried to find the others from my old group but have learned they are all dead. There is only one person I can think that could have discovered this. An evil Gnome called Blade, my history with him will be saved for another time. But he is greedy beyond anything I have seen. An old friend named Ellistra has some scrying abilities and is currently trying to find the seed.
Upon your arrival I will answer what else I can.
He reread the message many times and looked at the men he had hired, they had a strange honor system for all their evil he knew they would not break their word and open the note. He put the note aside and began copying it five for more times. Once the six letters were complete he sealed them and gave one to each tracker with the name of who should get it. they gave a slight nod and quickly departed each going in different directions.
He would see his wife again but he feared at what cost to the world of Aetheria.

Safe!
Zaranthys Rivermoon heard the door of the guildhall open then close slowly. Leaving the dinner he had just cooked himself, he rose quickly from his chair and walked up to the door with anticipation.
For he knew that Jaden Storm and Beorn Eaglefar had returned at last from Avendell.
"Welcome back, friends!" Zaranthys exclaimed with a wide smile. "I take it you were successful in rescuing the lady Cranston and destroy this 'seed' we heard so much from William Cranston?"
Beorn Eaglefar nodded firmly in response. However, Jaden looked ashen, keeping her eyes to the floor. As Zaranthys was about to ask what was going on, she simply muttered a quick 'good night' and headed to her room.
Confused, Zaranthys turned his attention to Beorn, who was looking on to the departing Jaden with sadness and concern.
"What has happened, friend Beorn?" Zaranthys asked soflty, now himself quite worried.
The barbarian sighed heavily. "We did rescue lady Cranston, with the help of lady Jessica Stark of FoN, Brother Rudash of tLB and the bard Warren Shadowsong of DCN. However, this 'seed' turned out to be quite a powerful and evil artifact. It swiftly corrupted sir Cranston's friend, lady Ellistra - and we had no choice but to ... kill her, lest she used the seed's powers." Beorn shook his head slowly in dejection at that.
"Such are the seductive influences of evil artifacts, I am afraid." Zaranthys intoned softly, trying to comfort his friend. "I am sure you did the only thing you could do ..."
The barbarian shrugged. "Perhaps. In any case, our Jaden was the only one of us who would carry this 'seed', thanks to her shifting talents allowing her to take the shape of a strong and powerful minotaur."
As Rivermoon's eyes widened in alarm and understanding, Beorn continued unabated: "The ... thing ... kept siphoning off her life force as we travelled to rescue lady Cranston. It also tried very much to ... seduce ... our Jaden."
Beorn sighed heavily again. "Furthermore, the man called Blade - the one who kidnapped lady Cranston - managed to escape. And we still have no idea as to who are his 'Masters'. In any case, the seed kept feeding upon Jaden's life force. By the time we returned to Avendell, Jaden was greatly weakened both in body and spirit, despite all the healing kits and spells we applied to her. And she was nearly overcome by the seed's ... dark influences. She almost never relinquished the seed so that it could be destroyed by sir Cranston. Indeed, she refused outright to do so. But I kept pleading and shouting at her to remember who she is and drop the dark artifact ... and in the end, she did."
Zaranthys breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. But now he understood why Jaden appeared so ashen and closed in upon herself. "She now doubts herself because of this ... grave experience." He reasoned to Beorn.
"Aye." The barbarian replied.
"Well," the TSS leader continued with a caring smile, "I have no doubts that she will win this struggle within herself soon enough. All she needs is time ... and the support of her friends."
Beorn nodded in agreement, somewhat buoyed by the conviction that Zaranthys carried in his words.
"Well, then!" Rivermoon continued on a more jovial note. "Come to the dinning table and eat with me, Beorn Eaglefar! And while you do, I want to hear everything - to the very last detail - of this grand adventure!"
As he walked alongside his leader, the barbarian smiled, his spirits somewhat lifted. Without hesitation, he began the tale in earnest: "As you know, it all began when we heard the news that the wife of William Cranston had been kidnapped ..."

Quest Story and Pics
This is the tale of the rescue of Mrs. Cranston. Our group
consisted of Beorn Eaglefar, Jaden Storm (TSS), Rudash
Pardeux, Jessica Stark [FoN] and myself Warren Shadowsong.
We gathered in Avendell but were to meet William Cranston
on the far off Eastern Slopes. We encountered many perils
along the way including the wilderness itself but finally
Rudash managed to lead us to a small tavern where we
were to meet with William Cranston. Once inside he invited
us to his table where we could talk more privatly.

He spoke of an Evil Seed that his wife's kidnappers wanted in
exchange but knew that giving in to their demands would only
doom all of Aetheria. He also mentioned a friend of his that
may be able to help us along the Wyrm Road where the bandits
were last seen. So we left the warmth of the inn to travel past
Old Town North onto the Wyrm Road. We encountered many
bandits laying siege along the road but managed to battle past
them. Eventually we found the valley where Cranston's friend
Ellistra was to be found.

At first she was weary of travelers in her area but Mr. Cranston
had given us a token to show her and we did. She told us of the
power of the seed and where we might find it. So we traveled
onward further into the Wastes where my kinsman the Yuan-ti
live only to find them slain and the area occupied by undead
lead by Ne-Kut, a powerfull shade. He managed to slay Beorn
the Barbarian but after defeating his undead servants we were
able to band together to slowly take down the evil shade.
Luckily our powerfull allies had supplied us with scrolls to bring
back the dead and Beorn was soon back among the living. The
seed was to be found among the remains and our druid friend
Jaden Storm took the task of bearing it's burden upon herself.
We soon made our way back to Ellistra but she was not able to
contain the evil that resided within the seed. The corruption
overcame her and she turned to run away with the powerfull
artifact. Having considered the possibility I was already
prepared and moved quickly to intercept. I managed to slow
her progress with a bit of Grease under her feet which allowed
the rest of the party to form up around her. Unfortunatly we
had to slay the innocent nymph in order for her to release the
seed from her grasp. Jaden once again took the burden upon
herself to carry the seed while we continued to seek out Mrs.
Cranston's captor. Beorn spoke out suddenly saying
that we should seek out the Bottomless Pit. He had a vision
and Meilikki had spoken to him, showing him the way.
We quickly set off again, this time to the Bottomless Pits where
we encountered an individual by the name of Blade. He spoke
of the Seed and said that he would release Mrs. Cranston in
exchange for the artifact. No one would even consider this
option even though Jaden was struggling to control herself
because of the seeds power. Knowing that in the wrong hands
the seed would be devestating to all the realms we struck out
against Blade who quickly ran from us but not before sending
his Bone Golem after us. Meanwhile Jaden had snuck past and
released Mrs Cranston from her cell. A confrontation ensued
due to the Seeds power but Jaden resisted the urges long enough
for Mrs. Cranston to flee from the area. The skeletal monstrosity
gave chase and we were right on its heals as it persued Mrs.
Cranston.

We struggled against it's might and while some of us were unable
to control their fear, Jessica Stark and myself managed to catch
up to the undead construct and bring it down.

Soon after the defeat of Blade's construct we heard word that
Mrs. Cranston had made it safely back to Avendell and that she
and Mr. Cranston eagerly awaited our return. We headed back
towards town but by this time the urges from the Seed were
almost overwhelming for poor Jaden. With much help from the
party in whole we managed to escort her back to Mr. Cranston
who helped us convince her to release the seed. She did so
and Mr. Cranston picked up the artifact only to have his body
consumed by it but with his sacrafice the artifact disapeared
into the planes and Mr. Cranston was returned.

He spoke to us of our rewards and although several members
refused anything he was persistant in his offerings. We all
rejoiced at a job well done and greatfully received his thanks.

After leaving the Cranstons we retired to the Inn for some
much needed ale and to recap what had occured. We all
hoped we would never see Blade again but somehow knew
that would not be the case. I for one will still be seeking
him out to bring him in front of the Don to answer for his
unsactioned actions. Until then one last toast to a job well
done.

Cheers!

Until then one last toast to a job well
done.

Cheers!
