You really have to reduce the amount of time it takes for things especially low level creatures to respawn.
I waisted three hours travelling around looking for things to kill and gained for my trouble if I was lucky 200xp.
In three hours I found things to kill I can count on one hand.
Finally some cretan came and killed me, so thanks to the cretan for giving me reason to log out.
After two days I find NS4 well suited for the least enjoyable but most boring server to date I've played on.
Actually the more I think about the PvP and faction theme the less I like it especially after the cretan from another faction turned up with a aerial servant. Really makes for fun gaming when your only 4th and taken out by a summoned creature off a high level character.
My bad, I thought it was PvP not PK server...

Well, it is beta. Things like spawn times are what we're testing here. Since NS4 opened a day and a half ago, more than 150 unique players have joined. Many of them have multiple characters. This means you're sharing the low-level areas with several hundred other PCs, so yes things are going to be tight until a wider distribution of character levels is achieved.
I was thinking some of the same things Aiken. I wandered around for nearly 2 hrs, through 7 different zones, other then roughly every 15-20 minutes when the rat quest respawned in one of the city zones, I found 0 to fight at all. I finally wandered into collation battle zone and got destroyed by npcs.

Two things:
1) The Cretans are not a playable faction. In fact, I don't think we have any ancient Mediterranian empires in the game at all. If you meant 'cretin', I'll thank you not to insult other players on the boards. Or if you're going to, at least spell it right.
2) If you were travelling around the same area over and over, that's not going to cause creatures to respawn. The area has to be empty of players before the mobs will come back. Let's face it, if a bunch of rampaging critters came through and wiped out your friends, would you come out of hiding?
Er, make that three things: 3) We are still experiencing some teething problems. It's a beta, not a finished product. In time, these issues will be solved. Please bear with us while these things are tracked down.

I think one of the biggest things we need to keep in mind here Aiken is this. For the last year people have been complaining about when Beta is going to open. Now that is it open people are going to complain that it's not perfect? Come on!
This is BETA, does anyone here know what the word BETA means? It means that this product is NOT ready for the market and is in testing. For over a year NS4 has been in closed BETA testing. Now it is in OPEN testing.
So please, if you are going to have this kind of an opinion on a mod that just barely opened to the public don't even bother posting. I have seen games I have purchased having bugs as bad, if not worse then what we have seen so far.
I think the bottom line here is before you go off on some tangent and run off give the Devs time to fine tune the mod. Believe it or not that is what BETA is for.

True true this is open beta
maybe though Aikan has a point that ns4 did go through beta testing already and must have though this open beta is to test the server as more people come in and how it handles the scripts and actions of the players as a whole.
So an argument that can be raised is that there was already beta testing before and here is just testing out on a full blown basis.
I have played for some few hours now... and truly got bored sadly.
Seems that the enemies don't spawn much. Am getting 8exp a kill with very hard to respawn enemies. Etc... guess i'll just wait then for official release. And yes, I just don't have the time to do all these stuff regular players do.

I believe that this post was made out of anger due to the fact that Aikan was pked. Perhaps we should overlook the tone and simply look at the problems presented which are long spawn times and pking. I'm sure the dev's know about the spawn time of the monsters and will work that out. It might take some time to get to that due to the fact there are more serious problems and bugs with the server. I'm not sure about the rules for pking on NS4. On NS3 there had to be a reason and you didn't use a high lvl char to take out a low lvl char.
I had a first hand experience with PKing on South. The first time I overlooked it thinking that maybe I didn't understand the community on South. The second time I asked a few players that had helped me along the way on the other NS3 servers. The third time it was ATTEMPTED it was with a character that had the same name as the first that was PKed twice but was geared up and five levels higher than the attacker. That time I owned that okie and one of his buddies. Just remember if they get you today there is always tomorrow. If I'm around I'll rez someone that was pked if no one else will help because I realize that even at low levels it is a pain in the arse to lose exp when the stuff you can fight doesn't give much as it is.
I hope that you won't let this one experience with NS4 leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you don't want to come around alot just keep your eye out on how things are progressing. Once the dev's get all the kinks worked out I'm sure you will have a fun time.

also, as pointed out before, everyone on NS4 is very low levels, and thus the entire community is in the low-level spawn area. to change the spawning to accoutn for this would only require the spawning to be tweaked again in the future, when the community is at varying levels in all areas. as players who frequent the server more than others move up in levels, they will not be hunting in low level areas, leaving the spawn to the players that are still low level.
i have a feelig the spawn times are pretty fair, based on the closed beta test and based on my impression of the brilliant attention to detail by the devs. only time will tell.

Maybe this isn't the forum to point out bugs and stuff. I can't see to find any other forum to post my suggestions.
Spawning is way too slow. I just spent over an hour running through 10 newbie zones and all i saw was 2 fire beetles. Maybe they need to change it so the mobs spawn in the zone when other players are there. Maybe set a spawn radius. If you are withing x feet from the spawn point it won't spawn. Reality isn't always the best course for a fantasy game.
I havent had much of a problem with pking. Its the grief/exploiters in your own faction that seem to be my biggest problem. A high level fighter was running around the low level zones Disarming all the noobs of their weapons and making a fortune. He was same faction and even "Like" to you. He would run up to you and disarm you. Usually causing you to go negative hps but wouldn't kill you.

Ok think of it this way,
There how many ppl on in your faction that are the same lvl as you (or close to) and how many of them are there lvling and how of those out there in your factions zones are form other factions lvling
Needless to say a time goes on ppl will start to spread in lvls and
the high end guys will be in another area and lower players will be in theirs...
Just stop complaining and just be happen the Beta's up
give it time and you'll get used to the sevier layout and where to lvl
just like in NS 3

i'd also like to state i think spawn times are a problem, but i think the spawn creatures itself have problems.
they attack and kill each other = less creatures for players to fight. i can understand the immersive feel this gives, but how about limiting them to certain areas of the map instead of letting it wander into each other?
oh, and enough with the beetles!

ive seen this too, when i enter an area, the NPC guardians are already killing spawned critters and there isnt a PC around anywhere. I found the bug forum. You need to sign up again. You can see all the issues they are working on and post on the correct thread if you have something constructive to add. Or don't post at all if you see someone already posted the bugs.
Best of all that should elimate all the complaning about complianers. Just suck it up its beta crap that people post here.
