Faction traitors

Post by Elagneros »

I think there should be some heavier penalites against characters that betray their factions, i.e. attack their faction cities for XP or items. Largely this seems to be a case of LA members attacking the LA guards once they hit level 16 or so because it's good XP and Neversummer City is very close to Avendell (lately we Brethren have been showing our ... disproval of this tactic). Right now, all that happens is that the faction becomes hostile toward the attacker, big deal, the player list isn't even affected. At the very least, the player who attacks his own faction should become hostile to other players of the same faction on subsequent log ins.

This was mentioned briefly in a recent thread and I do remember this comment:
Zing wrote: It would be my pleasure to write a script which rewards a player for killing one of his own faction...the prize? How about a 100lb non-drop Traitor Stone?
I kind of like this idea (although from the context I think he was talking about pvp killing). Kiiling your own cities guard for easy XP should not be a benefit. I dislike having to attack hostile players fromenemy factions who dare to defile NS to begin with, but it's worse if the player is LA. I don't get an item drop, this makes it safe for them to raid LA on an LA toon, and not have to lose ANYTHING from being pked. I either have to manually switch them to hostile on the player list or attack them with the radial menu, and I have to use up healing potions and other supplies while battling the dirty little traitor.

However, I've seen a few cases where I've accidentally gone hostile toward my own faction while defending them from other players or monsters. It would be good if the player could have the chance to atone for his actions if an accidental switch happened so the DMs don't have to deal with it, but it should be set up in a way that a player can't abuse it.

OUTLAW FACTION? - I wonder if the devs can (and may have already) setup an 'Outlaw' faction? That would be the easiest way would it not? If your reputation vs. your own faction gets to a certain {negative} level, you lose your faction and are forced to join the 'Outlaw' one. (Then the newly returned okies can all be happy with their very own faction).

STRIPPED OF BENEFITS? - Possibly any stat bonuses and job token should be removed as well??

BEGGING FOR FORGIVENESS - As for getting your faction back?? Possibly a large sum of money..like 10 million? or 50 million... that would take a good amount of time to raise :P

THE STONE OF SHAME - The 100 pound stone is a hilariously evil idea  too... I think that could be given to you if you kill a faction JOB BOSS? Wouldn't be TOO bad for RDD's or high STR fighters..but still a waste of slots.

That's a good one. One reason a lot of people pick LA is for the messenger bonus. Having that stripped from them would make some of these players think twice, not to mention that the more loyal members of the faction would be able to run down the traitor more easily.

The other jobs aren't in yet, but presumably they'll have good bonuses too. The NC jobs offer some great benefits for their members as well.
THE STONE OF SHAME - The 100 pound stone is a hilariously evil idea  too... I think that could be given to you if you kill a faction JOB BOSS? Wouldn't be TOO bad for RDD's or high STR fighters..but still a waste of slots.
Yeah, make it one of the large items, you know the ones that take up 2x3 spaces in the inventory. That'll eat up the most space. And even those RDDs or high Str builds will have problems if one is added every time a boss gets killed, not just once.

PKing is another element to be considered here. While it's not good to have high-level members of a faction kill the faction's lowbies, too severe a penalty would restrict friendly duels between PCs.

No big deal. At the least, you'll get some feedback on how some of the playerbase thinks about the idea.

Its nice to see the DMs working on this one, because I really want the faction factor to be brought more into neversummer. An exile faction would be really cool too, let out the rebel  ! Maybe make the the place Evenshire for it, considering it isn't really got anything and its full of halflings. I want a halfling faction! Lol, please  ?

no, i think the outlaw faction is a good idea, but would be best served if the member were red even to each other. You want to turn your back on your friends? fine, now you have no friends.

and what about Okie Island.......not outlaws.....Okies.....big difference. Some outlaws care about stuff ....like robin hood......Okies don't....so we would need our own area. Plus think of the fun of all other people trying to invade Okie island.... it would have to be a super secret place of course.

Just make it so that you don't get XP or items ever in any situation for killing your own faction.

Wow... That was hard... Problem solved.

If there is to be a way of leaving a faction for a possible outlaw faction then whip up a quest for it and mnake it so that once the quest is done that character can no longer bind to his/her old faction's stones.

As for the going hostile to your own faction by accident problem, let Elvin sell favours to get you back in. Of course there would be a cost involved, whatever XP you would have gotten or did get for killing your faction members plus 50%.

How about another solution, I'm suggesting leveling the guards up somewhere a little above level 32 or something. Make it where you go for the Undersea City, Giant Central, Amazon City, to hostile cities, then to Planars when those are finished. This would make it possible to achieve a higher level, and bring back the city raids more. Also it would prevent most traitors, considering most idiotic traitors don't have the capability to reach level 30.

yeah, most cities are great around lvls 16-25...right about when you should be at gnolls, top of mountain, amazons, sunken, or frostdale.

I totally agree....

Why should a ALLIANCE DEFENDER be level 19 so some random noob can go smash on them. I mean shouldnt the defending npcs be a little higher (Mid to high 30s) just to make it more realistic. I mean cmon who would you rather have defend your home. Some random guards or the best of the best
