Academy District causes crash to desktop.

Post by Evolving_AI »

Ok, i will start what I've done to try to fix it.

video settings, in game, from best to other settings down the scale
to fast.
restarted computer.
don't even suggest re-install nwn, this is a fresh install
done just barely 2 weeks ago and I have done nothing else with this computer.
(it's a seperate computer just for playing NWN, I have another computer I use for internet browsing)

but still after all that when I enter academy district. CTD....
help!

no, no hak packs, no CEP...

it's a athlon 800 with a geforce fx with the latest drivers
that was setup just to play nwn since a few friends missed having
ole Rasp around.

Fyi, sometimes I can wiggle past it.. when I enter if I keep tapping my escape
key but it usually takes 10 minutes of logging back in to get it to work.

This is a longshot, but I have 2 ideas.

1: Look at your vidcard configuration and make sure all the settings are set to application controlled

2: Look in your bios and check the agp settings there. If its set to auto go manual and open up your agp aperature a bit. If its all the way open already, take it down one step.

If your vidcard is one of those intel/S3/ect POS built in shared system memory jobs ... get a real video card.

i have a crappy vid card and it never crashes for no reason...just when lag and effects get great enough. have you disabled the shiny water? that seems to be going around alot.

TGPO, I have already outlined that I have played with video settings
and I have a geforce video card.

Sorry, I read that as messing with the video settings that are set up in game. The ones I was outlining are the ones that you might play with through your windblows control panel or having to catch the bios setup when you reboot your computer.

I realize that you may know how to access these things, however since I dont know your level of computer expertise its some times better to get simple than be misunderstood. If it seemed I was talking down to you I apologize, it was not my intent.

If you'll list your driver version and specific video card I'll see if I can find any documentation about them and NWN. Sometimes there are configuration tweaks that can be done in the registry, I had to at one time for one of the video cards I used for awhile. It too was a geforce card.

Ok, I took it out of 24 bit true color mode and put it to 16bit.
that solved it.

thanks!

it worked for the academy district in NS and the shire..
but I'm back to square one with the inn in avendell...

Yeah I got snooty, cause this hasn't been happening in ns3.5 on both pac and mw servers so I really feel it's something with ns4.

and I've even done dwp using 24bit color settings.
hey, geforce fx 5200, not the greatest but in those nasty situations with demon dorfs in dwp it worked like a champ under 50 spells

but 3 maps on ns4 and my client is going the way of the dodo

I will apologize to TGPO, I know you're only trying to help so no need for me to get snooty.
but I do think this is a problem with the module, I'm not the only one who has problems loading some maps and getting client crashes so I hope somehow this comes to the developers attention.

I have met another person in NS4 who can't seem to load the south wall for NS.
but that person uses a ATI card.
Maybe it's all those creatures buffing when we enter?
maybe they need a delay?
