Hoarding gone mad

Post by Donan »

When there are new weapons/armor/items its normal that everyone wants to get their hands on them. Even older stuff I do usually put back my old armor and upgrade to a new set using my “mule”. But I do think it is going a little bit to far. I see a few people that have their lvl 35+ char go through and crush any new areas to get the boss drops. Now there is nothing wrong with that. But lets say your playing your lower lvl char and every 10-20 minutes you log out get your high lvl go kill the boss for the drop, go back to your low lvl, repeat. It’s a little much.

If my sorc comes across a nice weapon just cause he cant use it doesn’t mean I will toss it, I will save it for another char but I don’t go running around killing specifics and trying to have 10 kamas in my inventory.

When my char reaches 9/13/16 I usually keep the equipment as a hand me down so maybe that makes me a hypocrite but I still think its different then having 20 axes from a 1 week old area and having
Armor mule
Weapons mule
Shields mule

Well you get the point…

it was fun doing that when the mod was new but that takes up too much space on my guys. i don't mule anything that i'm not specifically going to use. i figure if i need it i'll just go there and get it......i let the mob mule it for me.

I don't see anything wrong with someone using their best character to explore a new area. Especially in the case of the amazons that just opened, a level 35+ is probably necessary to do the area solo, learn the lay of the land, see what kind of drops there are and so on.

Going through they area over and over with a high level just to get all the great boss drops however, is against the rules. There is a rule against excessive camping to hoard drops if the hoarding is preventing other characters from getting the drops.

I've never understood why people put a dozen or so different copies of the same item on their mules. After all, they can only use one at a time. I save equipment I know I'm going to use again or that I plan to use on a build I haven't started, but if I know I'm not going to use something again I ditch it. For example, I've got a set of half-celestial plate saved, because that's the best armor for a starting tank, and I've got sets of armor for levels 9 and 13 for when the character "grows out" of the half-celestial. I don't have a whole page on the mule with nothing but half-celestial plate though.

I only use one mule too. Now I do have a lot on that character, since I store stuff like potions for my non casting characters, and I use that mule as a bank too, but I don't have those big collection of high level gear, especially stuff i know I'm not going to be using. Like deathdealer, I let the monsters hold the items until I need it, since I can get most of the stuff in the game with my characters anyway.

The only time I specifically hoard items on specialized mules is with the mules for my guild. However, I don't see that as the same thing since these mules hold equipment that is community property for everyone in the guild, and the other guild members contribute to the collection.

complaining on the forums wont do anything.

if you have a problem with a player hording gear, kill them. Problem solved.

Like you'd need a buck. You'd pay a buck for the opportunity to shed a bit of blood.

Is there some kind of "trash can" system where you can drop off stuff for noobs?

oh for the love of whichever god you are aligned -- please no 'DB'!!! All that does is create beg-shouting and noobs asking why they can't use items and discourages team work and guilds.

Not to mention that people usually will just toss junk in there anyway.

I certainly agree about guilds. We're always looking for new blood in the Brethren. :)

Also remember that we can always script in a removal script for a certain item that we may need to remove.

I personally dont see much hoarding in the new area at all. Last night I didn't see a soul there. When a new area opens up of course ppl are going to investigate. This conclusion was based upon the first week and of course you are going to have an influx of ppl--just human nature I guess. I logged on at night and I was like the only high lvl there, maybe 1 other but I am sorry, I dont see it. :!:
