Black Hills Ferry and Sunken

Post by Chela Kirg »

Thanks a lot for bringing finally some epic areas, or near epic areas :).

Now dont take the black ferry to sunken it doesnt work. Take first the ferry to windale and then from there to sunken. And its cheaper.

There was no way back but death from sunken. Might want to change that.

And the mobs in Safe Haven were all indestructible. Might be that the door wasnt locked either.

Thanks again

Actually there is a ferry in the docks down in the city.

However i think we should put in a ferry un top of the island too, since players might realize they dont stand a chance after the first mob, and want to return

I definitely agree. Those mobs in Sunken are pretty tough and so far I haven't been able to get past the third terrace.

Also, I'd like to be able to use the ferries not just to get to these areas, but also to cut across long distances across the map, instead of spending a half hour or so trudging across dozens of maps with weak and inconsequential enemies.

Code: Select all

                Windale Sleeth
                   ^ ^

                   V V
Highlands<-->Sunken Isle<-->Grey Shores<-->Frostdale<-->Falme
                   ^ ^

                   V V
              Black Hills Neversummer City

As it is now, LA, AO, and MA can already easily raid each other by cutting down to Frostdale. Why leave NC and RK out of the fun? Not to mention that this would greatly speed things up for higher level players who would have the money to sail back and forth like this (and be powerful enough to survive once they get to their destination in some cases).

I don't believe you are referring to the same thing as Netrom ... generally, Sunken is considered underpowered for being labled an "epic" area, as it is no more difficult (easier, perhaps?) than a normal faction city.

Instead, he was referring to a lower level changing their mind and not being able to take the boat back, since the return ferryman is deep within the city.

RK and SL are underground...they couldnt possibly have ferrymen...

NC has a port in Daeron, and I don't think its being used yet...
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

The ferry in highlands is only 3 maps away from Dearon gates, perhaps the Northern Coalition didn't want the ferry to stop inside their walls since it would be to hard for them to defend against raids.

maybe the the dwarves were smart enough to make an underground cavern to use a port? you do realize that in relation to the world they are underneath the mountains north east of Garagoth, and if i remember my general maps correctly it is a gulf type setup that goes around that way. its either that or realize that the black hills ferry is the dwarf ferry since the inn is a RK bind point  . i also agree that the ferry at sunken should be accessible from the time you get off so that you don't have to trudge the city to get out.

Sort of thread resurrecting and hijacking actually. :)

As deathdealer pointed out, Black Hills is essentially the RK ferry since it's in their territory and has a bind point nearby. Also, it's not too difficult for the dwarves to bind over in Avendell and use the Falme ferry (no significant LA defenders in the outside area there).

As for SL, well drow get enough benefits already. :P

No, but like Netrom said, there's the Highland ferry. And they also control the Windale ferry as well.

Of all the factions, The Circle and SL are the most distant from ferries.

Melencia - Falme: 13 maps
Melencia - Windale: 13 maps
Melencia - Black Hills: 10 maps
Melencia - Ancient Gates: 8 maps (insane, and maybe not even useable)

Menzo - Grey Shores: about 16 maps (several different ways to go through the underground here)
Menzo - Black Hills: 14 maps
Menzo - Falme: 11 maps
Menzo - Neversummer Old City: 9 maps (not sure if they can get the port here).

Hey, I still would like a ferry set up in Garagoth and not grey shores since, Garagoth is actually a port city with get this.....A PORT. and it's still like 3 or 4 maps from grey shores to Garagoth. I believe that if people actually Had to transistion from ferry to ferry in Garagoth, they would be more likely to stop for a few minutes and look around. Th town is too isolated and it's only real drawing point b4 was a lvl 20 shortsword which noone goes after anymore because there is one in sunken now.

I agree with this. Garagoth's mysterious nature should drive a lot of ppl to drop by it. And yes, it's a port, maybe give it access to all sorts of places. Afterall, i think i remember the main background story of garagoth is that it houses sorcerors and thieves and they are quite the experts when it comes to travelling distances in an instant. hmmm

Guess its convienent to use the boats, but those that have spent the time to learn our way to and from all the city's, boats makes us obsolete. But on the flip side does promote more traveling. Give and take i guess

I don't see that as a big deal. The only enemies a player from Garagoth has to worry about on those maps are vermin and those pygmies. By the time the player gets enough cash to ferry to Frostdale and then Falme, the player should be strong enough that those enemies aren't a serious threat.

not true about the rats and vermin, those drowned and mephits can mess your day up if your not ready for them at a low lvl.
