The Gods and you

Post by Donan »

Like others I have been around a while and the last few months have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. After my game last night I will say this, there is nothing more fun then having a DM drop you into a mini quest. It is good to see the Gods helping (or punishing) us mortals. Perhaps they have returned from another place. Bringing some never before seen followers/enemies

So thanks for the fun, instead of just running to wherever, I am much more wary since you never know what really is around that corner even though you passed it a 100 times before.

It happened to me last night and it was great. Only the timing was just a little bad as I was making my way out of Ordean and was really getting ready to log because I was working on a PC on the side and I had gotten to a point where I could actually do more work on it again.

The first indication that something was up was that doors started closing. Fearing it was another player I used HiPS to hide just in case he was unfriendly. For the record I'm a 4/8/1 fighter/rogue/sd archer build. Well, since the door closed I decided I had better sneak out.

It was locked! Hmmm... Okay, didn't know that could happen. Guess I'll figure out how to do that later. And I just snuck out the open door once I picked the lock. And I was overjoyed to see that there was no player there to ambush me.

I make it up to the top level of Ordean and turn to the other computer and the next thing I know I hear that teleportation sound. Oh, crap, what is going on? I now know for certain a god is involved. I'm back on the second level in the room I'd picked the lock on, only now there are iron bars in front of the door. *chuckle* Someone didn't like me picking the lock. *grin* Now I'm thinking "this is gonna be fun."

I wipe the floor with the ogres that are there. rogue archer is gonna whip them anyways. But then undead start popping up. That's where I ran into some problems. Things immune to sneak and criticals just make my life difficult. I make it through the first wave pretty well with some of my magic staves and wands. But things just keep getting worse. *chuckle* Ah well. Time to pick up a club just in case.

I did have help, though. Turns out it was three gods fighting with me as a pawn of sorts. So, thank you Bane, Torm and Sune for a very fun end to my evening of play for that character.

Ooops. I meant to say Helm. That will teach me to post when I've been up for less than 15 minutes.

Thanks, it was great fun! I'm just sorry I made such a poor showing.

it's always (well almost) fun when gods showing up at the scene, for tasks, raise, support or even teasing you. From what i've seen sofar that there are some gods that are realy do a funtastic job about that (don't have to mention names, we all know who they are ;-) ) I tink its a good way to please lotta people and letting them play NS more often and even attract or keep new players in the realm. Togheter with that behaviour and the few bud anoying bugs (broken areas, serverportal, etc) gone, Nsrealm has the force to re-vive afterall.

Good job doing last weeks

D (again on eva's account)

Btw how the hell do people get access on dye's here? i've seen dyed up clothes the other day so they have to be there, somewhere...

Dyes can only be given, never found.

The main cause of their distribution was as a reward for creating a guild; to create uniformity. However, dyes can also be given out on special occasions as rewards for quests.
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

Actually put it on DD's list to add a few dyes per store. Someone want to make a list of suggested colors for each faction?

Also adding the generic faction guard equipment into stores as well. This isn't hard to do, it'll just take assembling lists.

Ah... Had another fun DM event night before last.

Mountain Trail was a blast then. I heard a shout from a troll and shouted back essentially a "WTF?" And someone told me via tells that there was something going on on Giant Mountain. So, I logged out of my fighter and grabbed my drow cleric. She was, unfortunately, all the way over in Mirkwood. So, the run to Giant Mountain wasn't short.

By the time I got there it seemed that nothing was going on. So, I just figured I'd kill some ogres and giants while I was there.

Well, I found them. Or rather they found me. A bunch of disciples were gathered around.

It took almost my entire complement of offensive spells (Call Lightning, Chain Lighting, Empowered Call Lightning, Hammer of the Gods, Destruction) and a Cure Serious wounds (empowered since I have healing domain) to finish them off.

A fun new challenge for a 14th level drow. It was great fun.

I too had a couple of interesting moments last night.

I'm running my stunty legs around Angmar and lo and behold a white dragon appears (you know when you look at something and don't react like nah that's not a dragon is another one of those annoying rats etc. etc.) Well, it took me a few seconds to realise this was actually happening.

I then thought ... hmmm ... game bug .. that white dragon is a long way from home .. nope it's not really there it must be a player who has shape changed and is gonna PK me. So here I am with my low level fighter making a runner.

Next thing I see is a message "Wait come back here!" so I stop and prepare for battle realising I could die reeeal quick. So I aim up and after a few heal kits and some ring-a-ring a rosy around the dragon I collect a couple of nice crits and it all falls down. I then take stock and start checking my log screen to find out it was an actual monster and a juve dragon at that ... but to a little ol' dwarf it was still Huuuge!

I then make my way back to Garagoth to sell my load and Carell the Smithy decides to do a Michael Jackson impersonation by moonwalking behind the counter and then stripping. He goes all goth looking on me and I remark on the lack of hair and we joke about the pun garaGOTH! Next thing I know a gate appears and I'm like oh no another monster but it was Lord Bane checking the mortal world out. He was most merciful and kind .. sparing my life and rewarding me for my newfound devotion.

So in all it was a most entertaining evening.

Wow. Either the Gods like me or they hate me. Or I'm just lucky enough or unlucky enough to be around when they want to pick on mere mortals.

A small group of us (three or four, I forget the exact number) all around levels 7 through 9 were running up the bottom of the mountain trail and ogre pass. We realize we shouldn't go too much higher up because tree smashers are kicking our butts.

Then all of a sudden an earth elemental shows up. We got through him rather easily (luckily we had a drow around to get the darkness going and a few rez scrolss) but now I'm thinking we've been noticed.

Later on comes a juvenile red dragon and a pit fiend. I can't quite recall the order on those. Luckily, I made sure my party was rested so that when each encounter started we weren't depleted on spells by taking out ogres and giants.

Plus, my character during this was a fighter/paladin/CoT. And bringing on definitely evil creatures was a good way to test out my build and her smiting abilities.

After destroying all of the monsters who shows up but Bane. I'd rested again expecting more baddies to show up. After Bane introduces himself around (we had NEW people in the party that hadn't met our gods) he bids us goodbye. Of course, I had to try to get a smite evil in, and got one good hit in with Divine Might going as Bane attempted to leave.

Of course I got insta-killed for my trouble. But, Torm would be proud. And Bane was gracious enough  to ressurect me. All in all some great fun.
