NS4 servers have been moved.
Getting them running now.
New IP is 24.250.189.125

Work will start on development and doing some updates over the next two weeks.

Xp fix is in. No more xp from low level critters if you are high level.

Price changes as well.

Look for Sunken and Frostdale opening asap

Hi guys, this is my first post since ive been here. Just putting in my opinion bout not gettin exp for low lvl creatures. I personally thinks its a bad idea, because if ur leveling a drow or other subraces, not including multiclassing they are gonna take like a year to get max level. I just love the server, and like the idea that its not as easy to lvl as ns3, but this is ridiculous.

I also have a question?

How much of lvl difference do u have to have to gain exp, example ( i was killing a creatuer with CR10 and i was level 19) and i still got no exp.

I'd like to hear some other opinions as well, that might change my mind, so have a nice day guys :twisted:

I've been doing quite well with XP running around with my level 19 Earth Genasi Fighter/WM.

Though, did I read that right? +-6? Does that mean that you don't get any XP from killing something of significantly higher level than you? If so, then that may remove some incentive for group tactics... Since groups are more likely to go against a single high level boss character.

What concerns me most are the changes wrought to the economy. With 50 lb gold nuggets now worth only 1200 GP why even include gold nuggets in boss drops? The lack of XP may keep some people out of the sewers killing rats... But, if you can make more money off of a pack of rats (since they drop mostly gold coins) than a boss....

If you're level 19 you should be raiding enemy cities by now. Killing CR23's and stuff, not subsisting on CR10's.

Can't do it by yourself? That's fine, you shouldn't be able to do it totally by yourself. Join a party, do some multiplayer slaughtering. More fun that way!

i'm a little concerned about the + side of the xp table. if i can't get xp for killing significantly higher mobs then why would i make an attempt to push myself out of an area? seems that i should sit exactly where i'm leveling untill it yields nothing at all instead of getting somewhere only to find out that i get nothing for it. take gnolls for example certain char builds can take on the pits successfully at lvl 11-13 with no problems and receive 200xp and up for the flamedancers and bodygaurds. with the new cap you'll get nothing until you get closer to their levels. the point of this is that sure i can kill ogres for a good 30 or so, but i'd much rather kill a flamedancer for over 200. makin' any sense on this?

If I remember the formula corectly, a group of 2-3 lvl 10 can still kill al cr 17 and get xp becuase it calculates the group power.

Its some complicated math that jorn did a while back so you may want to test that .

Oh level cap should be removed.. try and test it?

This is correct; server is now stated to be 1-40.
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

if figured correctly without epic areas the new high a player can reach is somewhere around 30 or 31....which means dragon shape is gonna make a huge come back. :twisted:

IMHO!

This "cap" is going to run people off this server, I personally think it is a waste, I can go to the gnolls and only get 39 exp from the Flame Dancers, and do not get any exp from anything else. It is very possible for my build to die in there. So I think I should get the exp for all the critters, not just the high lvl ones.

As I said, we will see people start dropping off the server to other ones that you can get some progress out of. Lets face it I get 15 exp from low level critters, does anyone know how long that takes to level? That is 1667 rats I would have to kill just for one level. That is days or weeks of time spent killing rats. On the same token, a gnoll archer can hit me with an arrow for 15-25 points of damage per shot, and I still get nothing from them. It just dosent make sence. IF the cap should not be removed, it should be "fixed" to a higher + or - maybe 20 levels or somthing like that. This 6 levels is a waste of time for anyone to go out and hunt anything. All this is going to do is cause more player versus player. Not killing, but whining. You know exactly what I mean, he killed me here, they killed me there. Ya know that is going to get old too.

I am very much a solo hunter, I do not do well in packs. So this whole thing really messes with me.

This "fix" needs to be taken off before too many people run off, it has made the server undesireable IMO.

If the DM's or DD dont think so, get on with one of your players, and go out and hunt some stuff as a 25th lvl character, it sucks. I do know everyone will say well that is a 25th lvl char. But why hunt till 25 if you can not keep growing. Sure the Epic areas are about to open, but who knows if I can hunt there by my self, or if I will have to depend on others to come with me just so I can get the exp? If I kill a 40th lvl char, I should get a hell of a reward for doing so, not somthing saying hey you are too low, and will not get any exp at all for all that hard work.

The fun has been lost. I always said this is my server and I will never leave it, I have stuck true. But... I am having second thoughts, and now that really sucks.

Well, I guess I'd reserve judgement until the epic areas open up. You might still be able to solo areas as a level 25 there - you just won't know until they're open. And, if you're at the level of getting 39xp for a Flame Dancer, why not go raid faction guards? They're going to have a CR between about 18 and 22....
Besides, even before the level cap was lifted, in order to get to level 25, it was far easier at about level 23 to start hunting rats instead of faction gaurds. Which, to me seemed like a hack and too painful, so the effective legitimate level cap was about 23.
