Epic Spells
Hi there -
Was wondering if anyone could comment on the current alterations (if any) on the epic spells.
- Does epic warding actually work as advertised?
- How much total AC do you get with the epic mage armor (isn't it comprised of +5 nat, +5 dodge, +5 deflect, and +5 armor bonuses, none of them stacking with what you already have except the dodge?)
- Are the mummy and the dragon knight working? Any comments on their combat effectiveness?
- I've heard that hellball has knockdown added to it - any other differences?
- Greater ruin probably isn't worth taking, unless there has been further tweaks to that...
And to round out my further obsession with details, any know if the Improved Combat Casting feat is worthless if you have over 15 in tumble? In other words, tumble says that it prevents attacks of opportunity in moving around in battle - does it also include attacks of opportunity from spell casting?

Yeah Greater Ruin is crap compared to a good old Maxed IGMS.
I only took it so I have a spectular way to whack newbies.
Apart from Epic Warding, you're better off pumping your Casting Stat through the roof, taking Epic Spell Focus and maybe Epic Spell Pen or even better..... Getting Auto-Quicken(3) so you can throw 2 spells per round again!!!!!
(/curses the haste nerf).

You can't build a mage and worry about having hits to take crits. Maybe you can't get Uber weapon masters doing 2100 dam a crit here, but you certainly can get enough to kill any mage in 1 hit. My 14th level DD with standard bought equipment has had a crit for 93 dam (av 60).
Max hits for a 20th level wizard = 20*4 + con (call it 12+5 magic=17 => 3*20=60) grand total 140 + 20 from toughness feat if you take it. So if you want to reroll hits to max every level, you still won't have enough.

Mummy needs to have its ranking improved
The mummy needs to have its place improved on the chart; it no longer has the bug where it stands around doing nothing (and hasn't for quite a while).
Good HP, good attacks, it uses knockdown and called shot to cripple opponents, and lasts 24 hours. All-in-all a very effective summon.

I tested it a few nights ago, and it worked fine. I wandered through the RK main city with the mummy and had no problems - it slaughtered the city defense and never had a problem.Teladro wrote:I deleved to test this after you mentioned it the other day. It did nothing.

Btw, for future reference, I tested my build offline yesterday and casting while in combat does not do a tumble check when attacks of opportunity are generated from casting. So much for my tumbling, casting gnome...
Figured it worked that way, but thought it might have been using the same mechanism.
So, now I just have to decide between Improved Combat Casting and Epic spell: Mummy Dust....
