some questions about the updates...

Post by Nemesis Revised »

First of all, welcome back Joran.... WELCOME BACK JORAN!!!

Secondly, I'd like to address certain updates for more clarification.

-Clear actions of a player when detected as stealthed. Should help prevent abuse of HiPS.

- Creatures initiate combat when detecting a stealthed hostile player via non-visual cues (previously they would just do nothing).

==> what do these both mean? lol, does it mean that you can see through your stat screen that someone is hidden when you detect him/her???

-Heard creatures within 5 feet are perceived by the AI (previously 3 feet)

==> won't this make Melencia a bit tougher? Those elves have bigger ears now

-NPCs do not follow through areas anymore, unless they are dominated, summoned, etc.

==> does this mean the domination spell is back?

- Implemented random item drop when killing a hostile player within your own faction's territory. When you defend your faction areas from a hostile player from another faction (not just any hostile player, they must be from another faction), you will receive a random item belonging to them.

==> what if i'm defending an allied territory (it's not my territory but instead belongs to my faction ally), and i'm able to kill a hostile player, will the random drop still occur? Can undroppable items be dropped as well? For example, i killed someone from LA who has the messenger item. Will the messenger item possibly drop?

- Raising hostile players is disallowed. This is to prevent repeated kill/raise attempts to loot a player's entire inventory.

==> will this really work? I can kill someone, turn that player to 'like' and raise him / her. Then i can kill him / her all over again. Possible, noh?

-last question: when will these updates happen? they sound juicy. Thanks Joran

not so sure i like the idea of the random item drop when killed in enemy territory. Im really gonna be steamed if I lose a good weapon or something. :/

Er, Throst, check Joran's reply in random item drop topic to see that Joran says the item dropped will be one that you have equipped.

As if there were too many Druids on the server and we needed nerfing! ...either that, or the few of us are owning so well that they felt a nerf was necessary.

And before someone questions it, yes, these AOE changed are clearly aimed at Druids, who use far more AOE spells than any other caster.
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

Actually, the changes were aimed mainly at mages, who like to spam speed-reducing spells such as Grease or Acid Fog, or save-reducing spells like Mind Fog, or Clerics spamming SoV. It wasn't targetted at Druids at all.

I see...so we are merely the unintended victims of such changes? Grease, Vinemine (much more effective movement reduction), storm of vengence...all spells druids live by.

and Delayed Blast Fireball too. ( a favorite by someone to cast on a spot 4 or 5 times when someone logs during a fight :) )

I guess you could say that :) However, I don't think it's as bad as you imagine - you just won't be able to stack multiple AoEs from the same spell one on top of another. Different spells are fine, and as you yourself pointed out: Druids have a wider variety and are more dependent on AoE spells, that actually makes them even better off than other classes now.
