Please assist-I request a cleric build, your input required

Post by Archmage Calamar the Dark »

Hello,
I currently have a 4th level deep gnome cleric, but she is killing me with the xp penalty. I don't want to, but I am starting over, and I request your help.

I am going human this time for the bonus feat and skill points and no xp penalty. For stats, it will be 18 wisdom and 14 con, but the rest is subjective. Depends on the following factors.

1) Currently I have the aniumal domain, but I don't think it is really helping that much. The main thing I think is, do you get dragons at higher levels and are they worth it?

2) I was thinking of the Sun domain, but will the extra power for turning come into play, or does this server at like NS3 were you could turn nothing?

3) Is the Epic level dragon worth it in this module? I would like a 10 INT so I can max out the Lore, Heal and the Concentration skills, but I would take a 12 in INT if maxing Spellcraft is worth the epic level dragon.

4) Domains is the harest to chose, the ones I like are Sun, for turning and early searing like and sunburst, Air for the lightning, Magic for Ice storm and acid arrow and travel for the coveted haste. What do you think?

Anyway, tell me what you think please. Perhaps you can answer some of the questions I have posted.

I prefer Travel for the haste and freedom of movement..

and on this server i would go War for the AB

with divine favor, divine power, prayer, aid, bless and others that just stack your AB for fights combined with haste.. become a very powerful cleric.. Focus on Hammer is a good weapon on this server..

push for Epic spell focus on Evocation and wisdom for implosion and you might want to also for necro too

A Subrace that has a +2 wisdom would be wise too..

Thanks for the advice, I took deep gnome because of the +2 wisdom bonus, +4 ac bonus and spell resistance, but the ECL of three is killing my XP. Asmisr, or whatever they are called, is only ECL of 2, I might do that, but right now I am thinking of just human. I didn't consider war, I will have to look at it again.

Personally I'd take Travel and Trickery. I'd also go Human to level faster and avoid taking the death penalty when someone PvP's you.

Travel for the Haste and Trickery for Improved Invis (hihi double your melee HP's, unless they have Blind Fighting feat). Haste is a must-have on any world lacking Permahaste. You could take something else besides Trickery and get a Domain that gives Stoneskin or Divine Power as a 3rd level spell (thus allowing you to memorize even more of them). If you factor in Unlimited rest though, those extra Divine Powers become less useful. Also factor in that lots of armor and shields have built-in damage reduction (though this WILL stack with Stoneskin).

Just make sure to have 13 or 14 Int so you can end up with Improved KD. KD is how to maim people in melee. Full buff then spam KD on them til they stop moving. Either that or take 6 monk levels and score it for free. Though my Clerics never take more than 1 Monk level.

I'd probably go 14 Str, 10 Dex, 12 or 14 Con, 16 Wis, 14 Int, 8 Cha or something like that.

When you are buffed with Haste, Divine Power, Divine Favour, Bless, Aid, Empowered Bulls, Greater Magic Weapon, Prayer, Battletide etc you tend to beat the hell out of stuff. Oh yeah you'll need to cast most of those Extended...... especially the ones with nerfed durations.

Divine favour is only 10 rounds so memorize HEAPS of them. Thankfully it's only a first level spell. You can cast it extended as well but I think it's coded to still only be 10 rounds (/sigh).

Don't forget there are lots of +str and +con and even +dex items around. Taking 4 Fighter Levels before 20th will give you an extra attack per round and will also let you take Weapon Specialization. You also score a few more fighter feats. And lets not forget that hopefully you've been using that 14 Int to BANK lots and lots of skill points so you can pump Discipline through the roof. (Or Tumble and Discipline if you take a monk level).

Personally I really love the insane number of attacks a hasted Cleric/Monk can get when they cast Divine Power. Especially if they decide to Dual-wield Kama and then press their "Flurry" key. Full buffed with the above spells they tend to have a decent AB and of course some of those attacks are bugged and happen at full AB.

Not that it's a big deal, but You don't lose XP when Pk'ed. Even if you are a planar-touched human.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those that know binary, and those that don't.

That's good to know, I must have read the instructions wrong!

I might even try a subrace myself sometime! :)

Without question, stock NWN's most powerful cleric is the TnT Build!!

If you like casting more than melee go with air domain. I have a air and sun cleric, but i find the sun less then useful. Early it helps with undead (which you only really meet if you start in NC faction) but the damage it deals caps so that it only kills low level skeletons and maybe zombies. Searing light is cool on undead, but otherwise not that useful. But if you take maximized spell and empowered spell you can blast so many enemies with call lightning. Even at low levels two or three of these spells waste a group of ogres and works well all the way up giant mountain (where you can do a lot of mid level levelling). It also works great on undead (except vampires :( ). You may find it hardly useful in pvp, however, as many builds take a level of rogue or monk for evasion and have good saves.

Not ture, I died to a north co player and I am from sleeth and I took the xp lose

I made a character with the magic and travel domains. He is working fine right now. I also went human, which I really like. Improved invisiblity would be nice, if the server gets wiped, I might try that instead of magic, but right now I really like acid arrow.

Thanks for the in put guys. Feel free to post more, my current guy is named Undecided, which is mostly like going to be yet another one I dump, but for now, I like him.

ECL sucks, so do factions:)

I am not sure what you are talking about, you have a link to an AC/DC song. Do you have a build in mind or are you just a big fan of AC/DC?

TnT is Travel 'n Trickery; I don't know what that has to do with AC/DC except they travelled a lot and sang a song about dirty tricks.

Super cleric lvling can occur in one specific area. I cannot recall the name but you need undeath to death spell...memorize it to the max and buy the ammu that allows you two more spells from that lvl then travel to duskhaven and the crypts there alone with the amazon area at night. You will vind vamps there in groves. At the first lvl when you get undeath to death you receive about 300 per kill. You can kill 3-4 per spell. I jumped about 4 lvls in under an hour when i got that spell. I stayed in that area for a day using that spell at night then wasing amazons bye day. I went from that lvl when you get undeath to death to lvl 19 in like 4 hrs max. SICKLY SICK. Duskhaven...In northern coalition.. Has like weaker undeaed during day then at night there are vamp wiz/fighters/rogues ect all over and they have a mean [censored] boss in the crypt there too. can bind like 2 boards away. just send out your summons to engage then recall them drawing 3-4 vamps at a time towards you and wham each time you cast it you get like 1200 exp min... that was like 2 months ago though.
There is the possibility that was changed since then. Just sick that you can go from like lvl 10-18 in 4 hrs there.
