We need a wipe.

Guys, whatsup with you? Okay so if a wipe happens, everyone starts from scratch. That's not gonna solve anything is it? Ppl are just going to get to level 40 again eventually.
And think about what the devs are going to do when everyone's back to level 1? Who's going to test the epic areas? Lowbies? This is the reason why it is OPEN beta. So we can test areas made by our devs to each of his own. We're already in the playtesting stage. We do a wipe and BOOm. Everyone's back to square one, and development will take longer; it will even delay the release of NS4.
PKer's are not the problem. PvP is inherent in this mod. If you don't want to be pk'ed, go with a party (reduces the chance of being pk'ed). And build a powerful char (being level 40 is an indicator that you have reach the top, and you won't be pked that easily).
~ Once NS4 is released, PKing will always be there because its a pvp mod.

I agree with Jester and Nemesis. Again, I don't give a rat's [censored] about being PKed by two epics from my own faction/alliance. But, I could see how a newcomer could be irritated.
A wipe before beta ends wouldn't be prudent, as beta testing at higher levels is important too (e.g. taking a closer look at what sorcs use universally: bigby's and igms, the annoyingly shorter summon durations at higher spell levels, epic gameplay).
No matter which MMORPG you play, there will be those few, special players.

1. There is no epic areas, and we have no ETA on WHEN they will be opened up. Just about everything that could be tested by the players has been done so already. Check the bug tracker. Pages and pages of bugs, yet very few listed as fixed.
2. A char wipe would erase any bugged chars people have kept from earlier (with whatever exploits, ect that are a part of that char) And it would also allow peeps to clean up their accounts and start fresh with a better understanding of what they are doing. (since we cant erase our own chars yet)
I dont agree with us needing a wipe just to get rid of the lvl 40 pk'ers. As stated, they will reach lvl 40 again eventually. What we need are the dm's dealing with the rampant "kill anybody, regardless of how little a threat they are to me" mindset thats becoming more and more common. Has ANYbody here seen or even heard of a dm dealing with such behavior? I havnt. And i dont count the "we'll do it behind closed doors" excuse, because that dosnt do ANYthing for the public's perception of rules and rule enforcement.
So to summerize, i dont object to a wipe being done at this point, but i certainly dont see it curing the pvp abuses.

if they wipe, i think it's safe to assume there will be a vast amount of areas added. if they dont wipe and just add the areas ppl will not truly test the new areas how they were intended w/ thier old charcters.Wen-Kai wrote:I agree with Jester and Nemesis. remember that beta is about testing... not how PKing is going to be affected by actions etc...

Most PvP mods have a penalty for getting whacked.
My favourite one had full corpse looting but thats a bit extreme.
Some PW's track your kills/deaths and you can view them on a scoreboard. Some also give you an automatic "bounty" based on how high up the ladder your victim is or how many people they've whacked since they last got PKed.
While excessive PK death penalties can put people off the game (especially if continually griefed) having no PK death penalty seems to take some of the risk out of it.
Maybe I should start a new thread. Then again it's only my 4th day here so this has probably already been argued to death.
I tend to level chars fast so I'm fairly indifferent to a wipe but quite concerned over the lack of a scoreboard or death penalty.

Hi, I am sure the DMs has punished or warned the chars involved as they have written earlier. I have experienced this once and it made me laugh allot. A friend I was playing with cursed allot on the shout channel after being PK'ed and some complained about it (I was also killed and we both respawned to melencia, it was a typical PK in the darkforestWolfarus wrote: What we need are the dm's dealing with the rampant "kill anybody, regardless of how little a threat they are to me" mindset thats becoming more and more common. out of the topic***.
Yeh sometimes DMs are quite sneaky. A buddy of mine got a new option while talking to Elvin. The new option was "Hail to the Lord" or something like that. Didn't know if it was a bug though, the message she received in the selection panel was too 'explicit' to be a bug... ehhehe.
Strange, didn't know Elvin was in commune with the gods

I have noticed the occasional odd dialog. While using the newbie shopkeeper once I was presented with some dialog about the Asimar subrace.Nemesis Revised wrote:out of the topic***.

While I would kinda miss my current characters, I agree that a wipe would probably be wise when the epic areas are opened up. Otherwise you are going to have dozens of people coasting through the epic areas with level 30+ characters just to see the new loot they can get. This will not help test the comparative difficulty of the areas or how well they scale with character level.Throst54 wrote:if they wipe, i think it's safe to assume there will be a vast amount of areas added. if they dont wipe and just add the areas ppl will not truly test the new areas how they were intended w/ thier old charcters.

This is a bug caused by lag. When the system is lagging, you'll get dialogue cross-over sometimes. I've found out how many job points several people have via this one. I don't believe the DMs can "talk" through the dialogue options as they are scripts on the server end. They can take over the shop keep and talk to you directly, but afaik not through dialogue.Denort wrote:I have noticed the occasional odd dialog. well hello all, its moi
got an idee i saw it on another server as a rule. pk is allowed to anyone moderate or higher. anything below that is out of the question unless they attack you.
braking this rule will result in bann, then perm bann. no more warnings just gives people a shot to kill alot without getting banned.

Well that idea might be good on other servers, but not here in my opinion. Full pvp is what makes this server great . If you see someone from an enemy faction, feel free to kill as you see fit. I think the problem lies in the amount of high lvl outcasts we have. Maybe my idea of "once a character gets outcasted from their faction they shouldn't receive XP untill they have redeemed themselves" isn't such a good idea, but i do believe the problem lies in outcasts. What do outcasts have to fight for? Nothing. They then become random pkers (hence my idea for a wipe). A wipe would remove all outcast players forcing everyone to start over and be in a faction once again. The "no xp for outcasts" would help in the number of outcasts running around random pking everything they see. I would like to see what everyone thinks of this idea.

A lot of players choose to be outcasts (like Okies). A wipe won't do much, some people level past 20 in less than a week, so there will always be people with higher level chars then you until you reach 40th.
Besides, I would like to try my shifters and druids once the shifting bug has been fixed with patch 1.64.
