What is wrong with/missing and needed in NS4?
Finally, one of the site admins starts openly discussing one of the many possibilities that I post in the ideas suggestions. Listen, you guys asked us as a community to give you feedback, and to tell you what we all would like to see changed before NS4 hits the big time. Almost EVERY last one of my posts is in regard to how to change the game for the better. I know not all my suggestions are absolutely the best, but at least it starts discussion. Just look at page two of this forum...the limited haste.
I had no idea that my ideas actually made the site admins upset with me. And wait just a minute! ALl my ideas have positive and negative effects so that abuse could be minimized. But from what the rest of the community has beend saying there hasn't been much change, pking is rampant, and we are losing numbers to other servers....why could that be?
I don't know...maybe everytime I try to add something constructive and 10 more people say "Hey that might be a good idea" it gets shot down because no one with authority wants to take a gamble.
Whats wrong with adding some item spread so that non-casters can get more items that are more powerful that suppliment their lack of casting ability? I don't know, but neither does anyone else....which is not good for a community.
Whats wrong with allowing fast transport between allied factions and avendell to decrease running times for higher lvl characters (which also gets higher lvl characters out of low lvl areas, which lets lower lvl characters lvl up with peace)
If you want to know what is wrong with NS4, don't look at Terminal, me, or anyone else other than yourself. The reason the community sucks is because NO ONE is out there trying to make it a better place...when I tried, I got shot down. The dev's don't do anything to spur factional support in game, there are next to no events that would make characters wish to stay with the server. Nothing is enticing. And in spite of all this, I am still waiting for the next addition in NS4, because I still care about the game, the community, and the environment.
My ultimate problem with this game is that the dev's don't update us on what is going on with the server...we've heard for months about frostdale and sunken isle being raised....but we don't knoww aht the progress is. That is okay, but it leaves many players dis-illusioned.
Besides all of this, really, there are small things that could be added, tested, and adjusted that take not too much time to change and not too much time to revert back if they are failures.
This world is fantastic, its fun to play, and its rewarding. The magic aspects of it are fun, yet they are only half done, as much of the world is. In comparison, its as if mankind was made on the 4th day, waiting for the animals and the sky to be made by God instead of on the 6th day. (read genesis). We are running around a half finished world hoping for more...but we can't continue to hope for more if nothing is given back to us to kindle our hope. There should be someone that walks around telling us what is happening.
Also, some events that furthered the story line and the faction lines would be awesome. An undead invasion of the NC outposts. Firestarters in the forests of melencia. Angels trying to purge the underdark. somethign that would make the factional war more inclusive. Sure we should be fighting each other in some respect, but the bonds between PC's through DM events are more fun and lasting than an untouched world could ever produce. The DM's should interact with us more and more, gods should use the PC's as chess pieces for their own advantages. Items should be given to champions of each faction. There is so much that can happen in this world, so much potential....and sadly nearly all that potential is squandered on useless discussions of PKing, and worthless changes to a game that mires the progress of the entire community as a whole.
LIke I said, if you want to fix the main problems of this game, look at yourself and make a change (Shamon! He heeee -Michael Jackson) For everything else, the DM's need to provide a game that entices the player not just provides a place for which a player can play, but a place where people can live in an interactive world that reacts to what we do. There is a truly momentous change happening through out Neversummer, the question is what will the players, the DMs, and the Devs do to make that change fruitful. If nothing continues to happen I can only see a shadowy eclipse cast upon NS4 mired in complaints that fall on def ears.

I agree, i also think that the subrace should be improved to be on par with aantioch's, and updates (i kinda expected jobs for my faction about 4 months ago).
While i agree, the devs should have lives, but staying behind that excuse for the 2-4 months since beta came out is really a let-down
Lokey wrote:I've read too many argumentitive posts from ATI and Terminal Insanity demanding things that result in Mary Sue characters, something I don't want to design for. The post asks for haste not movement speed, and it's an insult to us that we wouldn't realize how it would be abused. It also implies that there's only a few places I want to be, the rest of the mod is filler.
Omg. I don't even play NS4 very much any more but I just have to state... as a player of video games in general... There are such things as filler areas. There are many filler areas in every single game on the market, and for you to say that there isn't is just telling yourself something that is an obvious lie.
No one wants to walk around every single area of the game and be amazed. They want to be a classic knight or a powerful mage living in an awesome NWN Server going to their next destination or finding soemthing awesome about the lore to the story of the game.
Just because someone wants to move faster through some part of a forest that they look at every day walking back and forth... back and forth.. while they gain some loot or hunt or whatever, doesn't mean they want to turn this game into the next D2 or NS3...
And think about it people.. even perma-haste wouldn't destroy this game:| it's so awesome.
Again, i just had to state this because it is a total lie to say that there aren't numerous filler areas in games, including NS4.
Hasting through them occasionally isn't a heavly feeling, but it's a little weight off your shoulders as a player if you will.

This is the haste topic I am referring to numerous times for those who don't know.

It seems an epic area is desperately needed.
With an epic area, the opportunity cost of camping the Mountain Trail by high level characters would be greatly increased, making it far less desirable to do. If a character does choose to camp it, they would have to forego the opportunity to gain the significant XP associated with the epic area.
As it stands, there is no epic area, and high level characters are mindlessly camping the Mountain Trail having nothing better to do. This indeed is a problem.

I have read this thread 3 times now. I have tried to think of constructive crit that can be given... and I hope I do not offend any of the Devs, DMs, or players.
#1 The Player Based Economy: We need to get more people to realize that Termie, the Okies, Slaves, Magic Foo (gotta love that name ^_^) and the other notorious PKers don't get Raise dead scrolls unless a player makes them. There seems to be only two of us that make Raise dead scrolls on Server 1. BUT it is a huge turn off to craft because of how difficult it is to get the XP back at higher lvls. I.E I spend 9 hours lvling on giant mount. or Duskheaven or (I try not to) raiding cities to get 9720 xp just to make 18x10 raise dead scrolls. I can sell these scrolls in a totally of 3 minutes... But making them takes for ever (Human Cleric LVL 17 healing and animal domains). and then I also can't lvl my character.
What I propose: 1) Find a way, any way, of giving temporary xp Bonuses to those that craft (this might be a mute point when the higher lvl areas are made) I.E. you get ann item that has a mathematical script where you get a proportionate amount of Synergy or other type of Bonus... maybe something that acts as if you had a party member with in X lvls of your char that did not half the xp but still gave some sort of Bonus (which would obviously have to be minimized seeing that two lvl 14 chars can take down a smasher and get 140/55 opposed to 240... so the 55 synergy bonus would be way to high!)
2) I heard a player say they talked to a dev about this: a NPC that you could give your crafted goods to that would sell to players 24/7 (i.e. no 7am 10 pm) whereby the players would receive some how a portion of the Gold from their crafted goods... Now what I say to extend this idea... when the player sells there goods through the NPC they get some XP bonus correlating to A) their quantity of goods sold over time (selling 20 apprentice lvl items (xp bonus) > selling 5 apprentice lvl items (xp bonus)) B) quality of goods sold over (selling 1 master Artisan lvl items (1 MA lvl item (xp bonus) > selling 100 Apprentice lvl items (xp bonus))
#2 PKing abuse aside. (ya, even I admit now. its outa hand... but to the point). Also... it has been said many times that we the players need to regulate this ourselves... we try and try very hard... I know I have uncured the wrath of many players by trying to help out... but I wont stop... but even as it stands, 20 lvl 10-15 chars cannot kill a lvl 38 wiz (heh magic foo... its all in the name)... it just wont happen. Also we the players don't have the lvl resources that players that abuse PK do (I AM NOT SAYING THAT MAGIV FOO IS ONE OF THEM... every encounter I have had with you sir was some what RPed). I have witnessed many of my friends doing some pretty mean stuff (*cough*TERM*cough*) (^_^) and I must say.. if I am present or have shouted something to help you DON'T SPAWN... if some one asks you will get raised... maybe you should ask instead of spewing hate (unless your a sub race then go ape ____) (^_^) but really... if they raise you... in an RP sense you owe them your life or debt of honor (as they, for raising you, are an honorable warrior!) so give them a shout saying thank you, "hail the great and honorable <insert char> blah blah blah."
On a lot of the PvP servers I have been on before (and I know this is not one of them ^_^) there are regulations that are in-place. One is this: you can't kill easy players or uncured the wrath of the DMs (on dedicated texan OMG the dms went crazy it was nice to know we lowbies were safe) or simply no killing anyone one difficulty lvl lower than you. Also as a novel idea: there can be a xp penalty for killing those a certain difficulty lower than you.. but if the lowbie tries to abuse this (as axiom said a while back) by provoking the higher player, any and all action against the higher player gives full and utter right for that player to kill the lowbie at no XP penalty.
any way as the people on IRC are saying.. I'm writing a novel here and DV's gonna kill me cuz my paragraph marks are pathetic bla bla bla 02:00 been up since 06:00 lol gonna get some sleep.. night all (WOOT FOR THE DEVS.. haven't said it in a while!)

The problem with scripting a lowbie-PK punishment is that the lowbies would then go around starting fights,,, and when you kill them (And you SHOULD, RP or not) then you loose XP. Not realy fair =/
Okies would run around with lvl 1 chars attacking lvl 30s and when the lvl 30 defends himself, BOOM xp penalty. Not a good thing =/
Even not-action types of prevoking... theres no way they will script something that will scan for insults... If someone calls me i suck big hairy donkey **** like the okie get so frequently does, i think im entitled to put a blade in his head, without punishment.
There DEFINATLY needs to be more raise scrolls! I have resorted to taking over lvl 9 areas in hopes a new lvl 9 cleric comes by that i could force into giving me scrolls in exchange for their lives (Got 6 the other day! i think kurth probably gave them to him though so i felt kinda bad lol)
Id be more then willing to work on some of the spells and general script editing/bug fixing, but i doubt id get the chance due to how many people take the PKs so personaly and hate me now =o I Do have ALOT of time on my hands though lol
Kurth, your #2 thing is cool =D but not just crafted stuff... anything i put in there =o
Would be nice to be able to sell some of it...
and also id love a storage vault heh... so i dont end up creating a mule...

I love you terminal, the people just don't understand you're style.
I think all these problems need to seriously be addressed by the devs. I know it sounds commanding of us, but we've been here for 4-5 months now trying to make this game awesome, and we don't know a thing about whats going on. The first step is glasnost (openness) and the people will be happy. Please tell us whats going on

I like to roleplay my characters. But I often tell people I'm not a Nazi about it. There are a few reasons I'll go OOC for periods of time: smack talking on /shout (it's all those years of playing FPSs online, I can't get it out of me!!); talking about RL stuff with players I'm more familiar with; and reporting bugs, questions about status of server/areas and other "meta" topics.
Venom Blackheart is basically a [censored] and a bully, but does have a sense of loyalty. For Mr. Blackheart there are two things: respect and hate. He can be very serious one moment and wise-cracking the next.
Disaster Dark is a close associate of Ven's. Ms. Dark doesn't have as much a chip on her shoulder as Ven, but does have a "mean-streak" that comes out when she's crossed.
Slave Hategrim is a member of Slave. He is devoted, loyal, and keeps a list of Slave's enemies at arm's reach at all times. He's a man of few words and does his best to follow orders to the tee.

If a lvl 1 attacked a lvl 30, I would hope the 30 would simply ignore the lesser.

Don't feel bad; the 6 scrolls I gave you were hand crafted by my character. If you want more raise scrolls perhaps you could defend those clerics capable of making them (such as Kurth and I) from PK attacks...extorting us for the scrolls is not in the best interest of the server.
And yes, if you give me protection, I will gladly give you more scrolls.

Well Today so far I have made 28x10 raise dead scrolls... I have have given them all out for free... I could charge as much as 100k for ten scrolls but we need them too bad for me to make people pay... SOO one thing I think this mod is missing is a guild.. now I know its too early to think about it formally... But I would like to start a Clerics guild.. with the simple title of Medics... We could have standerised prices and the such.... maybe this is too complex but I would like to see som emore players shouting <goods for sale>... SO
Term missunderstood me and we talked about it later... I was talking about physical action taken by a lower lvl on a higher lvl... he was talking verbal action taken by a lower lvl on a higher lvl... I do concent that my ideas do no work on an RP server very well.
Also I would like to say that I do not RP in shout... but when I am with Eudora, John Protector of Kurth, Boris, Tolks, etc... my good friends.. we do RP... I RP with any I see on our first meeting... But this is beta and it prolly cannot maintain a lvl or RPing untill it is in final product form...
As Ven and I talk about.. you can tell when someone is RPing if you know them... I RP The Cleric as a nutural Merchant in the Realms... my other chars or familymember are fallowing in his footsteps but do not want too... my round about point is this... If you want to RP make a back story its much easier then... tell your party members you are gonna RP as much as possible for the time being and that tehy don't have too, etc... any way back to topic...
I was also thinking about GoN... now unfortunately many of the member of GoN have left... they are honorable warriors who fought to be the 'Gaurdians of Neversummer.' For those of you that do not know.. and Boris and Eudora I hope I don't offend you by saying this... Boris and Eudora have become known as PKers... They only PK those that whine about this and that... which I find quite amuzing... they have been trying to enforce a lvl of RP for a while and have done it seccessfully... but maybe it is time for a group of WhiteCloaks to be put ingame? I know many players hate the idea of whitecloads... but it seems that we need them... Maybe this will help some how...
Also I said it a while back in a post where I appalogised to Matex for being quite rude to that it would help very much to have a thread in the NS documentation forum that lists things such as exploits and bugs that the player need to know... Redundancy is bad in Machinery but not in Information Services... the first thing I learning in my espionague and politics classes in highschool. I know the bug tracker has all the info we need.. but its harder to look it up there. If we could have a simple set up like on thread for exploits to PVP and one thread to exploits to NPC's and mobs that would be awesome.
Also... just one thought... is there any way to make it so there is one area (lets say avendell) that is hosted on every server? Here is my thought prosses: if all teh servers had avendell hosted.. but not at the same time... where-as when server 4 fails priority hosting goes to server 2... when server 2 fails priority hosting goes to server 1 etc... if this were possible there would be a safe place where all of us crafters could make our goods and sell them in a safe enviornment (i.e. Kurth from NC can sell to hostle from XP place without either party worrying about safty or the such once they have reached Check Point Charly (sorry for the bad analogy))??
and last but not least... it would be kinda cool but also kinda missilanious to a point to have a thread where the Devs.. DMs. and whitecloaks from NS4 and 3 could post stuff happening in their public lives (i.e. not private) soo when next time Joran is in surgery we can all send him one big happy get well card ^_^ or when TGPO goes on vacation we know who is covering for him and can say later when we see him.. yo how was <insert local> or something to the point as a Dev saying dude today sucked, I need some time to get my thoughts together, so I wont get much work done today on the mod?
Ohh lol and 'one more thing' I like the idea of good Samaritan items and things.. i.e. your a good boy.. you get a raise scroll or a good weapon.. this might replace the need for White Cloaks.. but of course I am not asking for anything... all the players know if I need something I trade for raise dead scrolls.... and lots of them ^_^... any way back to the game and me mother's dinner ^_^

Am I really as ugly as Father Kurth? %#$&

here's my input, and do w/ it as you please.
every1 is dissapointed in teh amount of updates/news etc that they hear fromt eh devs
the devs dont have tiem for it b/c no1 is sending in money to help speed up progress of the module.
no1 is sending in money, b/c the devs dont advertise what is going to be coming in enough prolly cuz they dont have time
and there isnt enough green or any ewoks in the module.
there you go... make sure you pay special attention to that last one...
