yeah, think silt striders from morrow wind, they cant take you everywhere, but you can at least jump from strider to strider provided you have the money for it... mabey use the system that lands of arda does and only have them leave at certain times in the "day"

Porttowns will have travel soon. Not much planned for overland to another place in the main realm yet, I think...probably after the current area nerfs at least.

We're replacing all the rocks and boulders with great chunks of foam, and giving all of the mobs plastic weapons and squirt guns.
Seriously, "redesign" is a better term than "nerf." Certain areas that have proven in beta to be bottle-necks or have pathfinding problems are being re-done. Start areas for some factions are getting more low-level hunting grounds.
Areas with exploitable terrain are being tweaked.

How about allowing a player to use his currently bound rift and capital city rift as a two way transportation system?
That would speed travel up a bit without allowing people to bounce all over the world. It might also help get people home quicker when their captial city is under attack.
Since using rifts involves dialog it would be difficult to use the rifts as a method of escaping combat.

A fast travel system would be awesome. Why not make a bunch of key systems, like a passport from each faction. Once you reach a certain lvl, you faction ruler gives you the passport for a one time fee, then you pay a ride fee somewhere in the capital city to travel to your allied and home capitals and to avendell. Seems pretty easy to do, and i don't see how that is exploitable. It'd go a long way to making the short time gamers happy, and save up on the: "Damn! I just ran for 30 minutes trying to get from NC to avendell, just to get PKed before I could bind in avendell!!!!! Bull S*&#!!!! I Quit!"
Even beyond that it would also add a rather cool element to future DM events, allowing high lvl characters to rise to the saving of their capital cities, to fend off invasion and so forth.....Maybe an ability to have a bind stone that lets to teleport to your bound location, one that costs 2 million gold....one time use per crystal to prevent massive exploiting. I don't know....but oh well.
please....if you need i'll give you my spare gold pieces...if we all contribute, it'll get done faster

I've tried fire, i've tried faith, and i've tried force, all I have left is hope.
oh! oh! I have one! "Home city" = Daeron, "Bind Point" = Chamber next to the Formian Queen (NOT an enemy city)Denort wrote:I am curious as to how you think it would be exploitable. *bamf* I'm in the hive killing and looting, and don't forget to pick up the most broken item in the game! 190k and it's already IDed when you get it.

*bamf* I'm in Daeron, sell, sell, sell, sell...

bah. let 'em quit. On that run, you'd have to pass (at minimun) one coalition outpost and the Black Hills Inn where you could bind. Maybe two outposts depending on how you got to Hallowtop. And that's just the stuff in the "shortest distance" areas. There are two more that I can think of that are only one area off that route.ATI wrote: It'd go a long way to making the short time gamers happy, and save up on the: "Damn! Fair enough, I see your point. While that would be a problem for rift travel, I think its also a statement about the wisdom of having bind points right near boss or high loot areas.TheBoris wrote:oh! oh! I have one! Rembmer though, in future builds of NS4, you can't bind anywhere, you can only bind to your color and avendell. So being able to bind to formian city might not be possible. Im thinking implement travel passes when the bind points get fixed too
thus preventing some serious potential trickery on teh PC's part

Yes and now u can buy tons of glowing white potions, because that's about all u're gonna need money for besides identifying things in a shop.TheBoris wrote:oh! oh! I have one! Oh wait, the answer is even easier: a timer of a few minutes on the portal... and the timer should be equivalent to the time that would have been spent walking the same distance.

Not exactly a full-range travel, but how about having an NPC somewhere in the city (maybe give them their own tower!) that operates magegates (or whatever you want to call them, I think magegate is from some book I read...)?
These NPC's would teleport you in exchange for a deposit of gold. Also, the local NPC would only transport to friendly or neutral areas (ex: the Daeron NPC would only transport to Malencia or Avendell).
Also, it might be advisable to make the NPC's faction-based, in order to avoid raid farming. Perhaps make the avendell NPC teleport you anywhere, but if you teleport to a non friendly area (give a warning for the little ones) you can't just farm and return to sell.
To me, it seems that this would encourage players to protect, or at the very least, not attack their home and ally towns. Also, if there are plans to implement peace-making procedures, use of their magegate would be a benefit to those that sought to create a cease-fire with rival factions.
Note: I'm half-asleep at the moment, please ask me to clarify if these suggestions aren't quite coherent.
Well, it's just a thought I had...any opinions?
