New to the world and a few comments/questions.

Post by Ryu Ironclad »

Hey all,

Been playin for bout a week and a half now. I met alot of ya and had run ins with a few more. As of this post I have 2 characters:
Ryuno'Oni Koroshimae Sorc(high level)
Lord Ryu Ironclad cleric/DwD(mid level)
I'm all for grouping, so if you need some help with adventuring somewhere, send me an invite. I'm pretty familiar with the world so far. I've been as far south as Gorogath(MA) and as far north as Sleeth(AO).

The world is very intracate and I like how all the areas tend to intersect with one another. I also like how it takes you time to get somewhere. *gasp* What a concept! No instant teleportation items are nice and the lack of a "central zone" from where all other zones can be accessed is also nice. I've enjoyed my hours of being lost and cursing the dev names in the Black Hills.

I enjoy the server and its lower power gear compared to other uber gear servers. I also like the idea that each peice of gear is used for a certain stat, i.e. helms for int, cloaks for cha and so on and so forth. Also the lack of haste boots or other perma haste items is very good for your server. It makes builds that are often taken for granted, highly desired.

Good Job Dev keep up the good work! 8)
Now for my questions.

Is there a place that buys and sells like the avendell market does?
I have all this extra stuff I cannot sell at my home town and with avendell's server down, I've nowhere to go with the stuff.... If not, perhaps there could be an avendell merchant on each server to helps those out that are laden with treasure. An avendell merchant on each server would prevent this, maybe there could be like general stores or something selling a little bit of everything, but not specificlly focusing an any one market.

Why can the stuff people sell to the merchants not be bought by others?
I've sold many things that others would be interested in, I'm sure, but I'm either on at different times than them or on a different server. I have nowhere to go with my extra gear as, my characters tend to have low strength and I don't want to run around encumbered.

Lastly, I'm wondering what the Okies deal is. I've had one run in with an Okie going after a friend after I had just died to a mob near a bind point. He got the best of me in that encounter... *shrugs* I'll get ya next time... I personally have no qualms with pvp, but I do know lots of people out there do. I've heard that the Okie's go on a rampage and just run accross the server killing everyone they can at will? What is the point of this? Why is it done? Are there no rules or penaties associated with newbie killing? I can find the less traveled roads and avoid most PC encounters while leveling my characters, but apparently alot of people cannot. The thing that confuses me is that I've talked with some Okies and had good intellegent convo's with them. Then I see them go on a killing spree. I guess I was just wondering what the whole philosiphy behind these killing sprees are.

All in all, I'm having a good time on the server. I'm enjoying the new challenge to find the zones of the world and kill that which I've not killed before. Hope to see ya online sometime.

well, if you find any rapiers or light armor that is better than that which is bought in avendell, you can send a tell to Caustic Drem and I will purchase those items from you. Or at least tell me who is dropping them. -Caustic Drem

@tellutwurp, sure if I find anything interesting I'll let you know.

Does noone have any answers to my first 2 questions? Are there any plans for changes? Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?

I can understand the Okies not bothering to reply to a noob to the server. So if the last question goes unanswered I understand. :P

no, there isnt another place liek avendell

u cant buy thigns other ppl have sold b/c that's just simply put.. lame. if they have somethign they dont want, which they had to work to get, they can sell it, if they wanted someoen else to ahve it they coudl have traded it to that person. but it could potential unbalance things.

not to mention it woudl make another script for the devs to write... and would prolly lag he server quite a bit...

In answer to your Okie question, there's only one solution unfortunately. Although it can be extremely annoying if you have a low level character, guys like them are a natural part of the community...although NS isn't 'role playing' as such, to have elements of both good and evil in PC's assures that the community doesn't become bland/homogenous.

When you're a five year old at school, and some other kid a few years older than you gives you a nice slap round the head for no reason, you cry and run to the teacher. When you're say 15 years older, most people given the same situation will try and slap back even harder.

So as I said, there's only one real solution, and that's to fight back - at lower level you're main focus is to get XP, lvl, become stronger...so getting involved in fights would be considered a waste of time. However, even lowbies can fight back effectively....trick is to pick the right opponent. Okies and their wannabees love to slaughter the lowbie/noobie, so, I suggest you retaliate....you see, Okies, every now and again, recruit a new whore, and these guys have to start somewhere - as a lowbie. And as we all know, as a lowbie, you want to get along with everybody so you can achieve your main goal - to lvl. And more than often the best way to do that is to party. Tip: if someone wants to party with you, check out their name. If it bares the mark of scumness, check out their difficulty rating. If they start giving you lots of nice equipment, and humour you with pleasant conversation, but you believe you can take them, then just do it! These puppies look and play cute at first, but soon they turn into ugly dogs, and an early culling is just for the best :D
