since NS4 isent RP, but the world is RPish, i'd think names should just be normal, but you shouldent have to work out background storys for them lol
No ".,;;LEETNAME;;;,." or "Urs Odead"
But i dont see how it could be enforced, so i'd just tell them that names like that are looked down upon and as a player, just not help them out untill they get a more suitable name

me here is how i name my chars

ok i decide im going to be a say cleric so i say ok everyone knows me as moki so first name will be mokihana now im a cleric of say earth and fire hmmmm that would be Pele, so a priest of pele would give me:
Mokihana Huna 'o Pele

or back when i was a dark fist, the goddess of fighting Hi'iaka (sister of Pele)(sounds monk like too hehe)

so the names mean something to me that give a little char development but not a whole coat of arms palidin descended from joan of arc on moms side and a child of zeus on dads hehe

I wouldn't mind if people talked in character. For me, the game is a lot more fun if I feel like I'm part of a world instead of a place for killing things.

I'm not saying the DMs are gonna start saying things like "Galstaff, you have entered the door to the North, you are now by yourself standing in a dark room. The pungent smell of mildew emanates from the wet dungeon walls."

One thing I'd like to see dis-allowed are characters with no names (0 character, pardon the pun), like the ones showing up on the NS3 servers lately. The only reason to do this is this (other than an accidental consequence of a crash while in the character creation menu) is to avoid being identifiable to non-DM characters, and the only utility in being non-identifiable is in pulling [censored] you'd rather not be traced back to you.

Since NS 4 is going to be rp based I have a suggestion/request. Can there please be a rule about how players name there characters. I have seen some realy stupid names like:

Burrito Supreme
President George Carlin JR
mighty monkey
iam dA man
iama pimp
super fly
the big cheese

You get the point, the players are good but the names lol come on guys
I saw a name that was so long it took up 3 lines before. That is not a name, that is a message.......You can still powergame so please let boycott the riduculous names.

I'am not against names like the ones you mentioned for the simple reason they do not bother me on a personal level. however racist names accompanied by the person saying racist things bother me a lot and make me not want to play here again. I'm very sensitive to stuff like that, i know most people arent nowadays but I think to promote a good enviroment for us all to play in we can do away with racist/hate names that offend people.

there really is no point in having to have ridiculous names, if you can put so much effort into making a build the least u can do it spend 5 minutes dubing the character with a proper name.
"RPers" dont whien ans ask too much. we dont try and force you to RP, and we dont demand a fugue plane at all either. The Devs have sed many a time they want the server to cater to both types of players so what is the problem with putting some effort into a name?

and if we're gonna have to listen to excuses plz try harder than this :

besides who knows what the "right" rp names would be like - for example, you could end up with a dwarf that had an elven name. Is that a bad RP name, or do you just have to have a back story with it? The serious folks on the server will tend to work together, and whatever norms get established there will probably carry on. If someone has a weird name - don't play with em if you don't like it! They'll figure it out eventually.

This is something that I agree with, but it's not something I or any of the Devs would be inclined to enforce at all. It's kind of like the Bill of Rights - you have the right to do a lot of things that common sense and common decency would forbid, and just because the majority of people agree doesn't mean we need to "legislate" it.

hmm, Bill of Rights. That could be a pretty nifty name for a Paladin. *grin*

Seriously, I don't care what name a character uses, as long he's a good player. If you've ever read Terry Pratchett novels, you'll see that even in fantasy books they have 'ridicoulous' names.

I find offensive that you would try to censor what name i use
for my characters... RP'er are much to senctive. A name is a name
It's just something to go by. I do take it a bit further by deleting
the short message given to each race\class leaving it blank. I'm not saying that i don't want to RP with anyone; i just don't to be force to.
I think this is the middle ground that the devs were shooting for.
I think tedious to be RP'ing sometimes and i find it annoying at
times to see all of the RP'ing spam in shout to. That’s why i play
on a PW action server but i let it go without commit because it is
your right.

It does not have anything to do with being sensitive or forcing anyone to rp. I just think the silly names are just dumb. And why would anyone want to be known has a silly name. Why would u take offence, if name dont matter than what would u care? try to name yourself something in fantacy world that is a little more appropiate. maybe a rule is too much, but how about trying a little bit to be part of a fantacy world even if it is an action server. I doubt that one of the bosses is named "BIG MAC with a side of Fries", I am just asking players to try. Is that really that bad or offensive?
