One other thing that hasn't been mentioned... If there is an xp cost on death, people will be far more likely to just run away from pvp unless they think they can win.

I just took a shot at defending my HQ from a druid and cleric. They were both a little lower level than me, but being two on one, I figured I'd get my dwarven hide handed to me. And I did, three times. Had there been a cost to it for me, I wouldn't have even tried, let alone tried 3 times.

I have to agree with the "there's plenty of incentive" comments right now without adding xp gain. I'm still all for capture-the-flag artifact collecting though. :)

If there is far too little PvP going on.. then go fight someone. LOL. It's not hard to pick a fight.

Since the only way you could log in two different characters at the same time (that I am aware of) is to either run two instances of the program on the same computer or using two seperate computers. Either way, each login will require its own, unique CD key verification for you to get online.
The way this was being used was that one player would log on with a specific character, play for a period of time, then when it was time for bed/work/dinner/servicing the significant other, they'd let a guildmate log on to that character and continue to level. It still takes X amount of time to build the character, but from the perspective of the player it goes much faster when they only have to do half of the hours.

Very little benefit to having two characters from the same account on at the same time beyond item transfers.

My idea would be not to have an exp bonus, but maybe a faction bonus, so it would go something like this:

Each factions has different zones (TC has Melencia Forest and Pass, AO has Sleeth Foothills, etc.) Switch these from newbie zones to battlefields. Each one can have a rift shard or something like that which will belong to a certain faction at any given time. It has loads of life and a high damage resistance so it's hard to take. Maybe every attack does 1 damage and there's 1000 life. Or maybe there's a special very-expensive scroll required to capture one. Anyway, when one of these is captured, the entire faction shares it's bonus (maybe +1 atk or extra exp when killing monsters.) That way, nobody could exploit it and they would be worth fighting for. There could also be smaller ones that a single player, in time could take. Each point would have a number of NPC guards depending on it's importance.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. Hope it helps.
