two handers are plenty powerful :P

should try doing melencia....my mage got too close to one of the great axe users, cut thru ethereal visage/premo/stoneskin/slash resist robe rather quickly and decked me heh.

and the two handed summons are the one of the best imo. buff that sucker up and he's a damage machine.

thing is, if you come across a fighter who has focuses/spec in heavy flail and greataxe for instance, he can just switch weapons and do massive damage to you.

im not gonna touch the cleric issue lol

NPC's can be a different issue altogether though. Besides their equipment they might have increased damage scores or very good strength to put out these numbers. I've just tried similar builds incorporatins different specs (1 and 2 handers) with the stacked resists/immunities enemies do, and the damage done by a 2 hander doesn't really seem to have the oomph it should for sacrificing using a tower shield (+6 more ac, 25%+ immunity and 10+resist as well as some elemental immunities).

or +fort saves and +sr in addition if you're using the gnoll chief shield. Then again, i've seen some good two handers drop, like in house meurne, and i've heard the greatswords in ao are pretty good, so maybe having more availability of elemental weapons helps some.

resistances doesn't stack, just immunities. so it'll be 50% imm 10 resist with both armor/shield affecting the same weapon type.
you can switch types (heavy flail, greataxe), and they'd only have the shield count. granted though, they can do the same to you (switch weapons) and ignore your resistances.

but there's some nice two handers out there (mention above, has vorpal on that axe i heard). also, with keen 2 handers, your crits would really rock them (wm levels :P)

atm, i'd suggest going with heavy flail for improv crit as i havent seen any decent blunt resist armors (so you just have the shield to worry about)

still, there's some content coming in, so we don't know whats in store yet (sunken isle, frostdale)

usually, when im building a fighter, i choose to focus in 1 single hand, and 1 two hander. (still carry around a whole variety of weapons though)
when i come across a fighter type, it's usually the single hander i use.......but when it's a mage/druid/rogue, whip out the 2 hander :P

Yeah, too bad you guys can't really sneak too well. Sneaking up on a mage, invis purging, him, dispelling if necessary, and then dual wielding them to death is fun stuff.

the immunities on shields really do need to be cut down on.

an easy way to maybe fix all this... tho it's most likely hard coded.... would be to have resistance soak dmg B4 immunities do...

I disagree. I think shields are just fine thankyouverymuch. You don't have to wield 2 handed weapons or dual wield its a choice. Choices have consequennces... (like picking a subrace with an ECL of 3 ) Those that dual wield or use them 2 hand weapons do massive damage. In my opinion this balances it out. Give a beating or be able to take one? That is the question.

dont know about the casters stuff i dont really play one

Clerics are in no way better fighters then fighters

I play a cleric and let me tell you fighters get all the combat feats, all a cleric can do is weapon focus, not epic weapon focus not improved crit, least i cant

just weapon focus, course we can add our charisma bonus to our ac and ab for a short period of time buffing our ab and ac up dramaticaly (based on charisma bonus) , only trouble a fi8ghter will have with a cleric is getting thru the buffs, once thats done a fighter should be able to out melee a cleric any day

Clerics get any combat feat except the Specialization feats. They just don't get as many feats total.

uhm, well actaully using 2 weapons doesnt ness do nearly as much dmg as a 2h weapon. b/c say an axe does 50 dmg in one hit.. then the dual wielder does 25 w/ one hand and 25 w/ the other.

say the guy has 15 resist and 15 immunity to the dmg being dealt to him.

what starts out as 50 dmg comes out as 28
2h weapon does 28 dmg.
(50*15)/100-15=28 [rounded up]

what starts out as 25 dmg comes out as 12
1h weapon does 6 dmg
(25*15)/100-15=6

and yet... if the person had no resists or immunites they both would have done 50 dmg....

don't think you can compare it like that

most dual wielders are finesse users so their str is already pretty low. also, off hand attacks only have 1/2 str bonus

so with or without resistances/immunities, the 2 hander would be doing more damage (unless it's a rogue with sneak attacks).

the dual wielder would have more ac though thanks to their dex.

then you can have a finesseable two hander with those little guys! hehe

I also agree that immuneties/resistances on shields needs to be toned down a bunch.

dond, my arguemnt w/ the math up there showed that 2h'ers do much more dmg... so uh, i dont quite see where you are trying to come from.

also, dont assume just b'c they are dual wielding they have high dex... or arent wearing full plate for that matter also.

My first "ninja" on another server was a fighter/rogue with 15 dex and 22 Str (original NWN). I used 2 katanas (one good, one evil, thanks UMD) and did very good damage with my 7 attacks (hasted). So Throst is right, dual weilders don't always pick the dex route. The nice thing about dual weilding is being able to do multiple damage types pretty easily.

your ninja is also getting a -4 penalty to ab.

you cant just say this hand is gonna do 25 damage and the other is doing 25 damage and the 2 hander is doing 50 damge per hit, doesn't make sense like that :P
