Im curious about drow

Post by Thorleif »

So I started a drow sor and Ive managed to get to lvl 3 in a couple of game sessions, but Im starting to get frustrated by the xp handicap for the sub-race. I recognize that drow start out with quite a few special abilitites and feats, but Im wondering if there are other benefits which progress as the char goes up lvls. This section is missing or something on the beta 4 forum curretnly, so I was hoping some of you guys out there might be able to give me some info. If there are no other bennies to being drow, then the xp handicap seems pretty severe......

Spell Resistance. 10 + 4 per every 4 levels

also, try making the move in on elvin.. he cant resist yoru charm if you take the portrait where the girl is looking to the left w/ the smile...

just use the worship emote and man... a nite w/ him and u got yourself like 200xp... just make sure you treat him to a nice resterant.. liek driders-r-us... and remeber.. no kissing no the first date... tho u gotta start dating all over if the server crashes.. so be careful.

Ya, drow are kind of a bust as far as return on investment. I notice the longer I played, the more my characters gravitate toward humans and other subraces with no XP penalites.

They wouldn't be a bad choice at all imo, but if you get shorted 2 lvls of everyone else(who can xp guards for that much longer) then it's a big loss. But when more content is added and ppl hit lvl40 then they should be a great race.

Provided racial spell resistance isn't capped at 32 like it is in the toolset.

Generally my only gripe about the new races is that the stat bonuses count as item bonuses. So say you wanted to buy Epic dodge at a whopping 25 Dex req, your dex racial bonus doesn't actually count towards the 25 requirement. At least thats the way it works for other mods, unless they added some scripts to fix it.

Supposedly the bonus will be fixed to count as regular stats eventually.

I think I recall someone (hopefully a DM) saying there is a workaround for SR that does not use the toolset. Can anyone confirm this for me, or am I simply hallucinating?

Yeah, heard the same thing numerous times, so drow should max at higher than 32 sr.

The max level is 40, not 20..
I have opinions of my own, strong opinions - but I don't always agree with them!

spooker, they'll max at 50 at lvl40. Not like there's content past lvl20 really, but it's not hard to lvl past that, especially if you have an active dm that gives your faction quests.

Just ask if you see a dm on, they might make up something for you. I haven't seen my deity but once for a very short while, and I've only seen Tyr(my ally's deity) but twice, yet i've gone on two quests so far.

Guys, a good way to get around toolset restrictions for SR and stats is to use NWNx. its a databasing proggy which converts NWNscript into a MySQL compatible format, meaning that devs can set the server up to have truly persistant characters and quests, without the need to do shedloads of scripting for it. with NWNx, they can just write the stat increases to a database and whenever you log in you log in with a chara with the correct stats, and they are permanent, instead of being only spell like effects as other PWs have done.

basically, with NWNx, EVERYTHING gets awesome. with the new patch they are including the SetPhenotype function. now, that means that you can true subraces. imagine a lizardman subrace for example. it has +2 str, but -15% cold resistance. with NWNx your chara, when you start it, is given the choice of subrace, so you choose lizardman. you load up NS, and you get another menu that lets you choose which lizardman phenotype you wanna look like. you look through them and select one, and then those variables are written permanently onto that characters profile in the database, meaning that every time you load up, you look like a true lizardman and you get the right stat bonusses and resistance penalties.

other uses of the SetPhenotype scripting tool are ridable horses, swimming and so on. when patch 1.63 gets released, be ready to get blown away, because the new stuff is gonna be awesome.

/infomercial.

i think thats enough publicity for NWNx and patch 1.63 :D
