After hearing lots of rogues bewildered over the past few days as to things not working as they had...

I have a question about UMD in general and the way NS4 is headed.

1) Does UMD override the spellcraft requirement or are rogues going to need to put points there too?

2) If UMD caps at 100,000 as per the books, with prices as high as they are will rogues be finding a lot of items that are simply beyond any capability to use?

UMD got uncapped with HotU.

So it should be very useful now. And I think the devs are probably going to customize this skill too.

The problem isn't the capping, it's the scroll bug that is stuff us...

Basically it goes through the "casting" bit but not the "casts" bit... For instance the other day I pulled out a lesser dispell scroll and fired it at a Dances With Worgs. I read the scroll, the little white sparkly ball flew at the orc, it hit him and......... Nothing....

No sparkly dispell effect, no whirlwind area dispell effect, no dispell rolls in my msg window, no effects dispelled.... The spell just went poof...

Successfully used a vamp touch on a neversummer defender today. Then again i failed using a delayed blast fireball(20) scroll. UMD is something like 14. Spellcraft is around 5.

Check your combat info for the DC information: I THINK the DC to get a scroll off successfully is 10+the level of the spell on the scroll. Not just the base spell level either... if the scroll says Haste (20), I think the DC works out to 30 total.

The may also be ILR associated with it, so you can't get a scroll off at all even if you get a success until you're 9, 13, whatever. Not 100% on that, but I did get a success that then got the "you are not sufficient level to use that item" before the scroll went poof.

Any DMs/devs know if I have this right? Still a little unclear on the rogue stuff myself...

Never got that msg(lvl22 when I used it, 1 lvl bard). But the dc was 20, the same as listed on the scroll, and I rolled a 22 but failed, so maybe the +10 just wasn't added in.
