Drums of a relic war?

Post by Frendel »

Thoughts on having a regular (bi/annual?) relic war, and starting a countdown for the next one?

Let's do this...
I've been talking to a few of the remaining players about trying to, at a minimum, organize an unofficial annual one week relic race, war, or whatever you want to call it for bragging rights, and more importantly a time when we can come together, newbies and veterans alike, to revel in some glorious party vs party PvP together once more.

Yes, the basic premise has more holes in it than swiss cheese. We're already aware of many potential flaws, but something as easy as guild tagged representatives from each alliance taking matching screen shots of the scoreboard in avendell at the beginning and then at the end of a week yet to be determined is, at a minimum, all of the working parts needed to begin, end, and determine a winner.

Really the heart and soul of the idea is to make it a once a year thing (starting small and humbly) with as little DM help necessary (of course DM help and support would make the experience so much better) for any old player to count on some elevated levels of PvP and being able to find some time during a week, day or night, once a year to run a few relics around.

I'm trying to figure out a good globally neutral time of the year, not too close to a holiday either in the spring or fall.

I'm going to update this once a week to keep it fresh in the active topics for old players checking in now and then to see.

Please post reactions or ideas if you have any that could help or support the idea, and remember we're aware of many unfavorable possibilities with how loosely this is framed out. Please reply if you are an old player who doesn't log in any more but who still keeps up with the forums. I'd love to hear from you.

I'd kill some people for this cause.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout right there!

Who wants another chance to fight Bargeld?!?!

And as of last night one DM committed to help regulating and watching for cheats.

Any other legendary players or DMs out there willing to hang out and enjoy some carnage ?

Just giving an update, was considering August-September. Should give time for a few more older players to catch wind and reinstall NWN if needed. Also sent PMs to old DMs to see if any might be interested in helping out. Long live the wars!

Any thoughts or questions?

Awesome initiative! I'll be there, either as player or DM depending on what's needed! :D

This is the best idea since EPW, I've only heard of stories about relic wars. I'm down for sure. I can hear the Drums pounding now!!!!

I'm in, and I'll post to the TCNC forums in case any of the FoN grognards are lurking around.

Thinking the last week of August seems pretty open. Although very worthy causes and events I doubt anyone has trouble with PvP during the holidays from Sunday, August 25th to Saturday, the 31st(26: Women's Equality Day, 27: Lyndon Baines Johnson Day (Texas), 29: International Day against Nuclear Tests, 30: World Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearance, 31: Muharram, 31: International Overdose Awareness Day)

or if this is too soon, maybe Sunday, September 22nd to Saturday September 28th would be better(22: Emancipation Day (Ohio), 23: September Equinox, 23: International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, 26: World Maritime Day, 26: World Day to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons, 27: World Tourism Day, 27: Native American Day (California), 28: World Rabies Day)

We'll see how the momentum is going and nail a start date down.

Sounds like a great idea :) I think this is karma rewarding me for agreeing to work in July and taking my vacation in august :)

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Awesome, yes I was hoping to pick a time when people weren't trying to take their families on vacation and stuff. September is feeling right.

Think we'll call it for Sunday, September 22nd to Saturday, September 28th 2019. If this is right in the middle of a major event somewhere in the world I'm not aware of then please bring any objections ASAP...
