NWN Turns 10

Post by BelowTheBelt »

To the NS Admin and DM team,

NWN will be turning 10 years old on June 18. Between the dates of June 18 - July 3, 2012, we're organizing a celebration of all things NWN, including persistent worlds and the players that play them. The Neverwinter Nights Player Appreciation Days (NWPAD) is designed, in part, to allow PWs to strengthen their playerbase by running DM events between 6/18 - 7/3. These events could be anything from OOC social gatherings/awards to quests and other events...it's really up to your discretion. We just want to organize the community of PWs to help celebrate such a milestone achievement for the game.

As organizer of the event (and NS4 player) I'd like to formally invite the NS team to participate in these events.

Requirements to participate are minimal, as stated above. However, there's more to it than that if you want to get more involved. There's even a Server Crawl in the works and a World Walker Challenge (the winner of which will win a free DL copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond).

We've got a website: www.nwpad.weebly.com
Or, you can join the forum discussions at: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic ... 11801953/1

If you have any questions, you can PM me on the Bioware forums or on the forum discussion thread. Hope to hear from you.

Thanks!

In case you stop back, can't think of any of us that deal with the new Bioware forums.

We and some other outcasts can be found on irc.nwn2source.net #nwn2cr (you'll find elven, virusman, plenty of other familiar faces there).

PS: Our players would probably generate 10GB worth of logs with that script. Don't worry, we hate them too.

Hey Lokey - thanks for responding. Yeah, conversion to the new forums was (and is) pretty tough.

I went to the link, but it didn't respond. Maybe I'm not doing something right? Is this voicechat?

And, interested in participating in NWPAD?

I asume irc.nwn2source.net is an irc server, download an irc client like mirc or pidgin(I prefer the later) once you've connected to irc.nwn2source.net, you can join the channel #nwn2cr, usualy done by typing /join #nwn2cr in your client. :)

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

There's a web-irc client on our main page (second link in left-hand pane), so if you can deal with having java not block possibly unsafe stuff (you'll get a warning, because it's about as ancient as nwn and everybody here hates dealing with the webpage lol), type in /server irc.nwn2source.net /nick name-you-want /join #nwn2cr (each /command stuff being a separate line).

It auto-joins to our irc chat server/channel where nazi-dms are standing by to laugh at you.

We occasionally talk to Skunkeen about doing things for his annual shin-dig, then forget about it and get reminded like the day before...so we're definitely bad at this type of thing as well as having a troubled relationship with Bioware.

It's not a categorical no, but not a yes yet either :)

Another possibility is to have player(s) or more likely a guild(s) run the event for this. Depending on what you have in mind, but considering the time span, we could have guild assisted quests for the World Walkers. 10 year anniversary is a big deal. Worth putting some effort into. I'd imagine there still could be some DM assistance. We (players) wouldn't need to do much but be on the look out for them, and help them with their travel through and complete whatever task there is to do.

The social.bioware.com forums are not something I subscribe too. After nwn.bioware forums killed many of our guild/registry forums... with the expectation of our migration to the social forums... It's not a popular place for any of my guild mates and our alliances, as we all opted to create our own forums instead.

It's not a categorical no, but not a yes yet either ;)

http://www.nsrealm.com/public/irc is a good place to find us. Players and DMs

Well, BelowTheBelt did cyber-stalk me, here's the log http://pastebin.com/MdzKxPXH

We can chat for a few days about what kind of dev/dm/player wants/needs/interest there is (anything that needed to be done dev-wise would need to know what to do by early next week). Think of some new-character-friendly + interesting things to do and whatnot.

For me, I'd be willing to slap together grabbing the prize info and putting in a keepsake or two. Could shop the canned area list for a new places to run dm events if wanted for example.

How about something to do with the relics? Lowbie capture the flag.

Nice idea. Let's build on that...

PvP with 40s over the relics is really what this server is about. People are mostly focused on building for 40 and then joining in the relic wars with those 40s. (A few people live to dual or tri-log, solo-farm gear. I'm weird in that I just want to party at any level... PvM or PvE doesn't matter to me.)

How about we have some standard level 40 builds set up in each faction, and player guides in each faction ready to lead raids or organize defending parties. DMs can be on duty during our designated crawl time to give players a pre-set build and port them into whatever party needs them. Maybe end the whole thing with full-server visits to Pelor and G1.

I think we can do something with standard vault toons, question is: Do we want to? I suspect not - games like Soccer, Map Running are much more fun.

That could be part of it too, and fun, but I think it doesn't really show the crawlers what the server is about day to day.

Some player guides could take some parties on epic runs.

We do have to consider what lag will do to the server during all this. Too many people involved in one battle at a time would bring The Crawl to a crawl, right? Party sizes will have to be kept in check, right?

It's not, but we like relics - they are the seed of much fun and drama. Just throwing ideas out there.

I'm pretty sure I once saw a level 5 successfully raid the cradle in Neversummer City (picked up a relic off the floor, IIRC correctly, but that can't be any more of a challenge than raiding against DMz - OH SNAAP!!)

Something like lowbie PvP, have to grab something and deliver it to a boss?

I keep suggesting lowbie because it would be quicker to let someone log and create there own character. The main flavor of the server is the factional differences, though. Can new people get that with low levels? My first time in Dark Forest, I ran into a couple of red toons on the path who demanded I praise Tyr or die! Being a devoted follower of Lathander, I politely told them to bite me, and died. That's the spirit we want, good natured mayhem. (Yeah, I die a lot. Bite me.)

lowbie centered factional pvp would be the easiest. grab a toon from whatever faction..make your way to avendell, receive a faction oriented task, complete it before the other factions do

How about this, we have some kind of relic event, however the only players who can cap relics are those with the (WW) World Walker/Server Crawl tag. (Probably most won't put that kind of tag on, but we will be able to find them nonetheless). The "veterans" and/or non-participants will help them level up to lvl 20+ perhaps, and assist them in their relic war, but not be able to pick up or cap relics, as this is only for the World Walkers.
