Since NS5 is dead, how about some food for thought for ns4 development (instead of nerfings);

This was an idea I had years ago, but when I tested it out in NWN it failed to work. But that was then, this is NOW! I imagine it has something to do with 1.69, or I was on drugs at the time but it's working fine now!

The same idea works for Paladins and Rangers - with 15 wisdom can also get spell slot 5 extended, (also 16/17 wis would allow slot 6 empowered or slot 7 maximized, but not lets not get crazy now).

Could make for some interesting (new) drops and the wave of new builds that may follow.

Could be cool. I can't think of any way this could be overpowered. At the very least, it would make an armored bard that uses still spell more practical so it can access mass haste and dirge while armored.

Why stop with Bard? Mages, sorc, clerics and Druids would benefit with level 10, 11, and 12 spell slots for silent, extended, empowered, and maximaxed level 9 spells.

Except that bonus spell slots in the toolset don't go higher than 9. So you can't make level 10+ for the primary casters. However, there are bonus spell slots all the way up to 9 for not just bards, but rangers and paladins, though the last two can't benefit from level 9.

Well, I think you could, but it'd read as "bad strref" I'd imagine. Also there's no metamagic scripted for level 9 spells :).

Actually there is. Some npcs make use of it :)

Yah, bards lack in the -arcane spell failure stuff too. Usually I think about putting it in, then remember it's bard then that they already rock.

Bards are fine. It is just they are almost always built the same. An armored bard could just be a fun variation. I'll admit that I have an armored bard (though still lower level) and it works ok, but spellcasting gets a bit clunky on it.

Bards need Auto Quicken :)

I'd never play anything else then....

Sometimes I want to build a 20 bard/20 cleric just so I can still and quicken bard spells, but the build doesn't really make any sense otherwise. It would have a crazy number of spells though.

Optimization-wise, would roll druid/bard for Nature's Balance so your dirges could work, perhaps.
