Using traps

Post by Elagneros »

I'm thinking of making a trap making character, but I want to be fairly clear on how traps work around here before I start. I don't want to get him something like 20-30 levels only to find out I wasted my time. So I have a few questions.

When a player places a trap, how long does it stay in one spot? Does it remain until all player leave the area or until server reset?

What are the rules on using traps for pvp? I'm fairly certain we're not supposed to drop them right on top of an area transition, since a player can't reasonably respond to that.   What other things do I have to watch out for?

Checked the wiki for some info, didn't find much. Found spam on the PK rules page that's been there since January '09, how'd that go unnoticed for so long?

Traps remain in place till triped, removed or server reset.

Traps gennerally do not cause XP loss I believe.

Traps are hostile to anyone not in party with the trap setter. This includes any PC toon from same or allied faction of trap setter, and the NPC's of those factions.

Trap setting has a DC's based on type (electrical/fire/etc) and grade (minor/strong/epic/etc) of trap. When checking this DC, only base skill ranks and skill focus feats apply. Ability, gear, temp and situational bonus do NOT apply. (rogue skill mastery feat applies)

Using trap dismantler, which can be purchached off Elvin, will break an existing trap down into its base componets. Your open lock score is checked to dertermine if you reclaim all or only some of the parts required to make the trap your dismantling. Note: Ability, gear and temp bonuses do apply here.

Hope that helps,

Traps set by PCs do not cause XP loss, but spawned traps do. Please use them in PvP.

Can you even stack those now? There's a difference anyway :). One is usable n times a day, the other is *collects more parts*
