Uniques
Just a couple questions regarding unique items, since I haven't seen the answers in print anywhere nor have people been able to answer them:
1.) Are uniques pre-determined the minute the monster spawns, when the loot bag appears, or does IDing the item trigger the unique chance?
2.) Does a player have to ID an item for a chance to be unique, or can shopkeepers ID items and give back uniques?
3.) Say that you have an item that is unique but unidentified (and obviously you don't know its unique), and server resets. Would reset of the server remove the unique properties of the item if it was guaranteed to have one before it was IDed?
Thanks for listening.

Re: Uniques
My bet is that all item properties would be generated when the item is created, i.e. when the map containing the monster spawns. At that point, the item is not a Heisenberg item, it has fixed properties.
So yeah, unlike quantum indeterminacy, the item is either a unique or non-unique regardless of whether it's ided. Of course, it doesn't make any difference to you because it doesn't make any effective difference when an item is declared unique. I mean, what are you going to do, hoard non-ided items for a server reset? But you have just as much of a chance getting a unique before or after, so in the end it doesn't matter.

Re: Uniques
upon item creation the random script hits the item and makes it unique. i believe (not sure if its true anymore) items are created upon monster death to reduce lag from transitions so all monsters don't spawn with loots and make the cpu do work.
but i could be wrong about the item spawns...but not about when it gets uniqued

Re: Uniques
sometimes mobs carying stuff theyr not suposed to, like a teflom(this one is easy to spot) will use it.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

If they're interacted with they'll spawn loot. On death is stock lame lol.

Re: Uniques
Out of curiosity, how are unique items working anyway? Any requests?
To answer your questions:
1. Items become unique when monster becomes sees a hostile enemy for the first time and goes into battle.
2. A player doesn't have to ID an items to become unique. In fact, players usually leave unidentified artifacts and never pick them up.
3. Server reset shouldn't un-unique an item, whether or not its identified or not.
Additionally, treasure chests may contain unique items.

Re: Uniques
My only gripe is that sometimes the unique system gives out crap/doesn't change an items property at all, I think the latter is due to the random property being rerolled as the same property the item already had. I have a Unique Diamond Hammer that is proof of this; has the exact same stats as a normal one.LinuxPup wrote:Out of curiosity, how are unique items working anyway? Any requests?

as for answer #2 you gave, does that mean I can take a crapton of unIDed items to say, Ave shopkeeper, and if there's a Unique in there, it will be returned to me as such and not defaulted to a standard item?
Otherwise, thanks for the comprehensive answers

Re: Uniques
Yes that's what he was saying. When the item is generated it is marked as unique, not when it's identified.

Ok, I don't think you're understanding what I'm asking, so let me ask this question:Daral0085 wrote:Yes that's what he was saying. When the item is generated it is marked as unique, not when it's identified.
When you give a shopkeeper an item to ID, does he give you back your item identified, or does the game take the unIDed item, delete it, and give your character an identical generic item and just says its IDed?

Re: Uniques
it should give you the unique item back. the only thing that changes it to normal is the anvil...so if you like to meta drop yourself gear using that, you'll lose your unique stuff

Re: Uniques
There's the possibility that you can kill a monster with assassination before their items become unique, but even still we make sure to fire the loot script (which contains the artifact code) on death... so you're not any less likely to get artifacts by using it.
