Mummy Dust 21 Cleric/19 Wizard

Post by BinarySolo »

So, I don't think I'm serious about making one, but I'm doing the math on a cleric/wizard. As far as I can tell, it will give tons of spells (almost every spell in the game with enough scrolls) can have good save DC, will never ever beat good spell resistance, and doesn't get access to very many epic caster feats. One thing that a 21 cleric would get access to, however, is epic spell, and specifically epic spell: Mummy Dust. Since spell focus necromancy does a lot of good work for this build already, I think Mummy Dust might pan out well, if it gets strong enough.

Would a 21 Cleric/19 Wizard have a Mummy Dust that was as strong as a 21 cleric, or a 40 caster? or something else?

Thanks in advance!

It should be a level 21 clerics mummy dust, as your highest caster level is only 21. The only time this is not true is for a Pale Master, which counts wizard/sorc/bard levels as caster levels as well as 1/2 ur Pale Master levels

Beating Spell Resistance is a big key on NS4 both in PVM and PVP. I think you'll find that a Summons (other than BG or PM) just won't get you by in those final levels. And that even though you'll have a ton of spells at your disposal many aren't very useful because you can't beat SR. Almost all high level monsters have super high SR and or Spell saves. Typically players are a little easier but they will often have 45 or so on their SR too. So you’re right. You won’t beat any form of SR.

Further, your spell DC's will be suspect having to commit 19 wis and at least 19 int. You'll have a hard time getting one or the other terrifically high enough to give players and monsters any trouble. Picking the perfect spell against a susseptable opponent can help a lot but you'll need to push the spell DCs to ~40 to really start causing players and monsters problems. I mean you'll probably have 20 wis and 30 int for DC's around 34 and 38 with this model? Maybe a bit better but still. A lot of players and monsters are going to make those saves even on their weakest category. (i.e. a fighter can easily have a base will save of 30 and so on).

Focusing on the Summons will be just another ball that you are juggling. It will further weaken you spell casting in that you'll use feats for the summons that you could have used to beef your casting. In the end you'll find this is kind of a utility man. i.e. jack of all trades master of none.

I'd recommend going pure cleric or pure wizard. Maybe take the option of mixing in 5 of a complimentary class. 35Wiz/5Sd or 35Clc/5Monk are pretty solid options. This way you know you'll at least be good at one thing. It may not beat everyone but it will beat some. I think it'd be a better way to learn your way around the server.

I assume you have two objectives right now. Trying a new build and learning a new server. Trying them both at the same time will be challenging. You’ll constantly question whether things aren't working because of the build or is it the environment? In the end you'll have a lot of open questions. I’d try a build that you know will work and learn the server. Then try a creative build in areas that you’ve learned and now know. Then you’ll be able to gauge your success with the ‘creative’ build. A focused caster would give you a lot of those answers.

Keep in mind that you'll discover many spells to be modified on NS4. Focusing on one class or the other will help you deal with that a little easier as well. Plus it will help you on the truly new thing at hand, the environment. Trust me, it is immense.

Best of luck and have fun.

And you can make it into an MA crafter, which is never a waste.

My first character on the server was a cleric/sorc. It was fun at first with the spell selection, but she soon became a mule as her spell casting just wasn't effective enough. I got good at running for my life though... :) I later redid the character as a pure cleric with a high wisdom. It was a huge improvement.
Mind what you have learned. Save you it can.

I'm sure someone's said this to you already...but this is a terrible plan.
