Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
Has anybody had a chance to look into this spell further? It seems nice in theory but as mentioned the bonuses don't stack and since there are other +6 and +7 staves the only real benifit in this spell is getting a +6 weapon early on if you spend 3 feats. For end game there is only a chance this spell has any effect at all.disastro wrote:i did some experiments with blackstaff after reading that dm comment way back. as far as i can tell blackstaff is of limited effectiveness unless you cast it on a low level staff with no bonuses on it.
the +bludgeoning damage blackstaff gives will not stack with any +bludgeoning damage already inherent in the item as far as i know. since every staff past level 20 or so has +bludgeoning, this part of the spell is useless. so you're then left with the random elemental damage (which you could get from a level 2 darkfire/flame weapon) and the enhancement bonus, if you epic focus in transmutation. by the time you get a level 30 staff the +6 also gets eclipsed.
so it's great if you want to pick up a twig of a staff and make it... kind of ok. 2 handed weapon with smallest crit range and multiplier. if the dm in question was uber effective with a staff, it wasn't because of the blackstaff spell.
For Example this is one of the +6 Staves in the game;
These are the bonuses you would get if you had ESF: Transmutation;Additional Damage: +2d12 Bludgeoning Damage, +1d12 Piercing Damage
Elemental Damage: +1d12 Fire Damage, +1d6 Magical Damage
Enhancement: +6
Massive Criticals: 2d12 Damage
Bonus Spell Slot: Sorcerer Level 6
Bonus Spell Slot: Sorcerer Level 7
Bonus Spell Slot: Wizard Level 6
Bonus Spell Slot: Wizard Level 7
Keen
Only Usable By: Sorcerer
Only Usable By: Wizard
Skill Bonus: Concentration +2
Skill Bonus: Spellcraft +2
Weight Reduction: 40% of Weight
None of the lines in red stack and if your random elemental damage happens to be fire then this spell would have no effect. Not sure if this was what was intended with these changes but it would be nice to see another good 8th level spell.+6 Enhancement
+1d12 Random Elemental Damage
+1d12 Bludgeoning Damage
And just to be on topic I think that Tensors is right in line with what should be expected of a combat wizard. Anymore could make the ABs overpowering.

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
Just wait until you try and use Flesh to Stone. I haven't tried to use that one again since they changed it pre wipe.

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
I have, the spell level is too low for it to be effective. As well the duration is nothing, but if I wanna slow bigby and flesh to stone and grease a level -100 I can make them C R A W L.

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
*edit* Nevermind, I see divine power only last one round on NS, so better off when taking pre epic bab
levels.
I was thinking of making a melee cleric. Would i be better off with taking 20 cleric pre epic so when i use divine power i get an extra attack at full bab or should i take some fighter levels pre epic for a fourth attack at less ab?
What are the effects of divine power for a character with 17 bab anyway?
Confused!
Thanks for the help,

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
I would suggest going for the 16 BAB so you get four swings normally. I believe the divine power code was changed so that if you are hasted and use divine power you dont get 2 attacks (one from each spell). So if you had 17 BAB divine power would give you the temp HP (as normal) and raise your AB by 3 but not give you an extra attack. Haste on the other hand would still give you that other attack.

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
I belive divine power now gives the ab and atacs of a fighter of equal lvl. I have sevral clerics who uses it. In the past, if you took only 16 pre epic and 4 fight, you would get 4+1divine might atack. Now you get 4 no matter when you took the cleric lvls. Note that the ab gained from divine might counts towoards ab bonus cap(+20) so with 20 preepic cleric lvls you get +5 from might, +6 wep, +3 divine power, +3 ava == +17 with a bard in your party you can only ever get +3 more from bardsong...

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Re: Divine Power and Tensers Transformation AB
Yeah thats true my note was for that if you get an extra attack from divine power I believe you wont get one from haste, I can check on this.
