Zombie Walk

Post by Rainswept »

So, I left today very unhappy with the zombie walk thing. Players were assuming that this was a DM move for a little fun, but it was so impractical it ruined my gaming experience and I left. There were many people complaining about it loudly on the server, and several who sent me goodbye tells because they couldn't deal with it.

Perhaps it can be made to happen only in towns, or only for the first few minutes after you log on? I set aside today to play and am really really bummed that it's all but impossible to enjoy the server today. I apologise if everyone else thinks it's fun and it's just me, I'm not trying to be a spoilsport.

You all know I don't often write here, but a disturbing trend seems to be brewing lately.......and I feel the need to say something.

I have in the past made comment on Gorn's "attitude" t'word nerfs and such, in the vain of "If you have nothing nice to say....." yadda yadda....

there has been a growing trend of NEW players "picking" on DMs for their interactions and the little fun they interject into the realm thereby breaking up the monotony of grinding lvls...

uhm if you really don't want DIvine Intervention and the fun it can bring, then why play on a server at all, play an off-line module or the Original Campaign over and over again...

The point is Laugh a little more, the greatest times on this server have all been from DM interaction (Primus, Leonia, massive spawns of Demons.....Chase Free-for-alls etc...it's a game have fun for pete's sake!!!!

and if the zombie walk really frustrated you THAT MUCH then, well... "If you have nothing nice to say....." yadda yadda....

I try to make a point of saying more positive stuff than negative, and I do my best to be a helpful participant, if only in small ways. I spoke up on the zombie thing after 2 hours of shouting frustration by a large portion of the server. In general I think the whole DM interaction thing is fun, tho I have seen very little of it 1sthand.

I made sure to pick a diety, and to mention him frequently in my little journal lol.

I don't doubt at all that it's mostly new players voicing frustration. Veteran players can sometimes lose sight of how new an interesting and very complex the setup on this server is, even for people who understand the general mechanics of the game. I imagine some of them are really enjoying whatever they are doing and don't want it to be interrupted and confused etc. I think however, that as long as they are treated with patience, and more importantly someone takes the time to explain what they can, they will come around. The server is definately set up to where the veterans get more out of it, and I think that's great so long as we can all make sure to bring new players in smoothly.

Because servers have more than 1 player in it?

lol.. if you think THAT was bad, good thing you weren't playing wow this october past.. the zombies in that were REALLY annoying, and the stupid plague, etc... that was the worst world event i've ever seen - i didn't even bother logging in to do auctions or anything until I heard it was over.

Never played Wow, tho I did spend a few... well, years... playing FFXI lol. Had the opposite problem with events there, they were so fun it could be really hard to get anyone to play the normal game. One thing it might be really cool to steal from them: On event week there were always items available that you could only get that week and never find otherwise, sort of like souvenirs (pumpkin hats for Halloween, Santa hats for Xmas). Probably need to be careful that the items aren't too good, or others will be bitter. Usually what they did is make something great but with limited charges (say a recall item that worked even amongst enemies) or something powerful only for the first few levels of the game (say a +1 or +2 item usable at 1st level). Make the item modestly hard to get, or sneakily hidden (perhaps the recall item is an egg, but you only get it from killing powerful chickens)

Events here can be a ton of fun, and adding a little more can be even more fun.

DM's are players too, maybe the dm staff was having a blast..... your not the only one who is suppose to enjoy themselves on the server.

Sometimes it isnt for the players its for the dm's i guess is what i am trying to say. Let them have some fun too, even if it is at your expense.

Yeah, I'm quite sure I'm not the only one willing to take beatdown once in a while just to keep the dms around :)

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Are you sure you're channeling you're inner squid? That sounds--err--reads an awful lot like Elmer Fudd . . .
