I remember killing LA epics for XP when near 40. They were worth about 140 xp.

i recently killed some MA warlocks at 28 with 2 others (level 30s i think) and they were something like CR35 if i recall correctly, took forever to kill em though, but once they ran out of spells they couldn't really do much, xp was around 1200 each for the 30s i think

I always had the hardest time with SL, except when using an 'uber' cleric toon or not 'solo'... NC and TC would be next hardest on my list, NC moreso with an evil toon but both doable if you focus on & lure the epics taking on the whole room is quite hard, but possible with some builds. I'm sure SL is even harder now for non-clerics with the nerfs to the restore spells...
but all in all it's fairly well balanced, it's meant for a party of high levels to take on not a solo player, since a well defended cradle (by PCs) will easily destroy a solo defender especially if they are caught before they finish off the NPCs - it's more of an annoyance than a threat really.
No matter what the devs to, there will NEVER be a full balance with the diversity of builds, tilesets and maps without making everything identical of course. This is true of pretty much all multiplayer RPG games too -- the balance only comes in when you have party vs. party (as seen in 5vs5 wow arenas) where there are many combos of builds/toons that work well.
So just stop the QQ and play!
