Monk Speed and Haste
Monk Speed and Haste
What is the exact level that haste stops stacking with monk speed? I've heard both 11 and 14 and can't remember when it stopped on my old monk.

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
actually..i think 150% is the max.....everything stacks to that amount or something like that.
Re: Monk Speed and Haste
Not to beat a dead horse but I don't want to get my toon to 39 and find out that his blinding speed is useless so I've been looking over your calculations again and I think they're wrong.
At level 12-14 a monk has a 40% speed increase, not 30% like you said, so at level 12 haste will stop stacking because:
100 + 40 (monk class) = 140
140 + 70 = 210 (because of haste)
At level 12-14 a monk has a 40% speed increase, not 30% like you said, so at level 12 haste will stop stacking because:
100 + 40 (monk class) = 140
140 + 70 = 210 (because of haste)
So if I'm right, the max is 11 monk levels (30% monk speed bonus), not 12. Can any dev actually confirm this?Bargeld wrote:This added bonus stacks completely for monks up until lvl 15. At lvl 15, a monk recieves a total class base speed of 140. Compare speed with haste at levels 14 and 15:
lvl14 speed = 100 + 30 (monk class) = 130
130 + 65 = 195 (because haste 50% of 130 = 65)
total speed with haste = 195, which is less than the 'hasted' cap of 200.
lvl15 speed = 100 + 40 (monk class) = 140
140 + 70 = 210 (because haste 50% of 140 = 70)
total speed with haste = 200, the calculated value should be 210, but the cap of 200 is applied in this case

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
Its an interesting question. I've heard some say that up to 30% stacks with haste/blinding speed, but I'm unsure. I know for a fact that 20% stacks with haste/blinding speed, I had several builds with 6 monk levels built in.
It appeared that Virgil Rix only had 20% speed increase over his blinding speed. He did have the potential for 30% (ranger outdoor bonus 20% + 10% monk bonus + blinding speed 50%). However, I never actually tested that against other builds with a solid 180% (build w < 27 monk lvls) but from what I could tell, he didn't appear faster than Ainarato or Sceeter (170% bonus builds).

i have been told, never checked yet, that ranger speed doesn't stack with much.

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
My original thread was posted because i wanted to see how monk speed and haste stacked. And i think you are applying it incorrectly. You are adding totals at the end and not applying as it is done, in-game.
Haste does not ADD to the speed, it multiplies it. I have tested this by comparing a monk with 10% increase + haste spell vs a monk with a base 60% increase and no haste. The monk with haste was faster than the monk without.
100% = 1.00 X whatever
150% = 1.50 X whatever
If you are at 100% speed to start with, and then get hasted, it looks like:
1.00 x 1.50 = 1.50
which is 150% speed.
But if you are monk, your starting speed is 1.00 + .1/per monk increase. So the table is as follows:
1.00 x 1.50 = 1.50
1.10 x 1.50 = 1.65 (lvl 3-5)
1.20 x 1.50 = 1.80 (lvl 6-8)
1.30 x 1.50 = 1.95 (lvl 9-11)
1.40 x 1.50 = 2.10 (which caps at 2.0) (lvl 12-14)
The rest cap at 2.0
1.30 (or 30% monk increase @ lvl 9) is the most efficient usage, but over a long distance, discounting lag etc. a straight 200% monk with no haste is faster than a monk with 30% increase and haste (by .05). You are correct, I had put lvl 14 there incorrectly in that quote... but level 12 is still the first level to max it. Level 11 is the same speed as 9.
The NWN wiki has the full table to clarify the monk speed breakdown: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Monk
And yes, DM/dev plz clarify

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
My first lvl 40 toon was a monk and I tested all of this as I went along. The NWN wiki speed table is correct as far as I can tell becasue the only person faster (that I ran into) was inara moon, pure monk. Meaning my lvl 30 monk speed was faster than the rest of the hasters and BS'ers out there.
It is possible that the monk speed has been tweaked, but the easier solution (code-wise) would be to cap the stacking at 200 with haste. Which route would you take if you were coding it... hack the monk class or cap haste stacking globally?

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
Trusek, I had a 17 monk with haste and got the message "already hasted"
My 14 monk got no such message... Thats where I came up with the 14 limit because 15 is the increase in speed.

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
A level 6 monk who uses the NC border patrol job item gets a message saying "This character has already been hasted" message.

Re: Monk Speed and Haste
Laufer is lvl 10 atm, so I'll be checking in game. Don't remember ever getting that message from blinding speed activation, but I never cast haste on myself either. Gonna chug a haste pot.
I've seen that message when trying to haste an already hasted (spell) target. Don't know if u get it when casing on a target with active blinding speed.

I check the NC jobs and blinding etc on wiki and they don't specifically mention the NC job, but I would assume the above to be true across the board as well.the description of monk endurance on NS wiki wrote:Monk Endurance does NOT stack with the Last Alliance Speed Token
