Echos in Eternity

Post by Apokriphos »

Weary... he feels so very weary.

Forcing himself, he gets up from the slab nonetheless.

A long journey only vaguely remembered flashes insistently through his memory, then it is gone - like a dream upon waking. Dimly, he struggles to open his eyes and look around. He lies at the beginning of a hall. Precise lines of hewn, golden-flecked stone lead on in an indeterminable direction to his front. A vague haziness surrounds everything that blinking and rubbing doesn't seem to clear.

After a moment, he notices that what before looked like random patterns of gold are actually pictographs of his life, detailing it exactly from what he can see. Although puzzled by this discovery, he smiles at a particularly humorous scene, glancing through them randomly while he walks. The hall seems to hug closer as he moves onward, growing increasingly narrow, soon with only the space to edge through sideways. Then it opens.

This chamber is the largest he has ever seen. Almost impossibly wide, its edges constantly blur in his peripheral vision. Creatures of every type and countenance stand individually next to an apparatus of some sort that he can't quite make out, only that it shimmers in an light that seems to be ever-present from the surroundings. In its center is the only thing he can clearly see, a very tall man with the head of a jackal.

"It is time, Ebeneezer."

He has only a moment to look surprised, before the being, who was almost a quarter mile in front of him - appears only a foot away. Within a blink, it reaches a lacquered hand into his chest and removes his heart. He feels no pain. He feels nothing.

Tha-thump. tha-thump. tha-thump.

Nails, lacquered with impossibly intricate, ever-changing designs, place the still-beating heart gently upon an immaculate golden plate. The scale shifts, but the inertia isn't enough to off-set the other side. Through the mist that has become his vision, he sees the other side of the scale. His sin and corruption, almost like living things, move in trails of acrid darkness, biting, chewing and gnawing each other in a desperate climb to the top of the pile.

With a sigh, the solemn being tosses the heart to the open maw of his companion, a crocodile.

Lowering arms that couldn't have made it in time, Ebeneezer lets out a scream as his mind, flesh, and soul boil away into the nothingness of the void. His last glimpse is of the stars and other celestial objects seemingly imprisoned in the creatures Great Mouth.

It all started when Captain Kord asked me to raid the Shadow Legion, and kill some of the dirty drow...He said the job was perfect for someone with my skills...I didn't understand why he said that, he and I both knew I couldn't handle going up against someone in one on one combat...And that I had to rely on stealth, and support to truly be effective. So, as I was thinking about this, he gave me a rendezvous point, a place where he said I would meet my support...I knew he wouldn't let me down, but when I got to the rendezvous point, I met some of the strangest allies. There was Horus, of the Mystral Ascendency, as well as Arwen and Anima of the Last Alliance. I had never worked with Arwen and Anima before, however Horus and I were good friends, even if we were from opposing factions. Something about being able to bond over mutual hate of the drow...Anyway, Arwen and Anima decided to stay back a bit, while Horus and I scouted. Both of us were SDs, so it worked well. On our way inside the forest cave, I suddenly was attacked by Gemetzel, a member of a sub faction within the Shadow legion. He got the jump on me, and got the first attack off. I managed to dodge this attack, thanks to my rogue abilities, however he got me with the next few. I was wounded, however thanks to my Duergar immunities to certain things, I was not able to be paralyzed.

Gemetzel, being the trickster she was, cast darkness, and in my great stupidity, I forgot to use my Darkstar amulet and ultravision myself. I activated my amulet as soon as possible, but I still could not see Gemetzel, as she had stealthed while I was distracted. I stealthed myself right back, and used the dwarven tool known as the Stalwart slammer on Gemetzel. Luckily, he failed to resist the might of the dwarves, and got knocked down by the stalwart slammer. I took advantage, and by this time, Horus had caught up and bigsbied Gemetzel, right as he had started to recover from the the slammer. Gemetzel was stunned, and I took advantage of this by crippling him, and killing him. He respawned, and too my great surprise I felt something burning within...Suddenly I felt overcome with Divine Fury, and started my attack on the Shadow Legion. By this time, the Last Alliance allies we had brought along with us had caught up to us, running towards us at the signs of battle.

We rested, and buffed up to prepare for our assault on Menzoduran. Horus quickly buffed all of us with ultravision, as he said the SL defenders would probably use darkness, and in response, we were going to do the same. Arwen sung for us, to inspire us, and Anima cast his clerical buffs on us, and just like that, we had a team. Enemies fighting together, a mutual cause of destruction on the Shadow Legion.

We entered the Hidden Legion tunnel, suspected that the Shadow Legion defenders had to come from somewhere to attack us. Arwen was the one who spotted the secret for for us, and we all followed her through into Menzoduran. We rushed to the Cradle room, looking for defenders all the way, and Arwen quickly saw some, as she was our best spotter. The defenders engaged us, but not before we had inflicted some damage on them due to Horus and I's stealth skills, I had managed to cripple some of the defenders, and Arwen inflicted much damage on them with her powerful curse song.

We defeated the first batch of defenders, however we knew reinforcements were on the way. Still filled with divine fury, I ran outside and engaged them before they managed to get to us, and they were caught off guard by the preemptive strike, and I managed to kill Pandemic, a defender of the Shadow Legion.

I retreated after I become overwhelmed by the defenders by myself, with help and support though, my allies and me destroyed them. My fury in battle was unmatched by all, thanks to Vergadain backing me in battle that day.

My allies and I had gotten all the relics from the Shadow Legion cradle by this time, and we began to make our escape. We stopped and killed a few straggling defenders, as alone they could not stand against our combined might and went down quickly.

On the way out, I died fighting Pandemic, revenge for before I suppose, he was quickly defeated by Anima, and I was resurrected by him. I needed rest, as my buffs went down at this time. So we went down into the hidden legion tunnel to escape, and Pandemic came down there again, looking to fight us once again. He was quickly put down, and once again I was filled with Divine Fury, thanks to Vergadain. Instead of staying back to help my allies escape with the relics, I decided to take advantage of my righteous fury, and went back into Menzoduran alone. There, I killed some more defenders, and Anima who was not carrying a relic either came out and helped me, and we killed anything that came our way.

I then was given the relic of Ragnar's Kin by my ally, Arwen, who had picked it up, I ran back to the Dwarven Stronghold without any resistence, and returned the relic to its rightful place.

Sorry to interupt but if your so called diety requested to get the relic, then thy should not get it w/ your enemies from other factions. Need to state the most observed things in your story to make it believable. You are at WAR w/ all other factions except AO. If this is unbelievable then read your journal when you came to this land, it has some answers you might have missed there.

I just explained that by saying that Captain Kord sent me on a mission with allies like that. And I think Dwarves would be willing to team up with other factions for the greater good of killing SL.

I heard you guys clanking all the way down the tunnel, putting all the orcs in an uproar, I had enough time to quickly dip my weapon in poison, then use a see invis dagger.

The problem was that I never equipped my kama again and ended up trying to assassinate you with an un-poisoned see invis dagger. Silly me.

FYI - Gem is a mistress of the Legion

Heh, I was wondering why it was so easy...Also, even if you did have your kama, I used the slammer on you, and the slammer pretty much equals death when faced with a sneak.

Not anymore, there isn't.

Two DMs witnessed me getting a Soul Stone, Anubis and Kim. I'll write up my story later.

The Mountain Campaign

It all started out with me being bored, and claiming the mountain to kill pitiful people for my own amusement, I quickly shout to the would that Giant Mountain was now known as Shishio's mountain, and with me daring anyone to come and take it from me. I had just painted a huge target on my back, but then, I was in the mood for thrills. Laufer came and challenged my authority over the mountain, and we found we could not kill each other...Both of us were Shadowdancers...Both of us were not willing to be the bait for the other to come out of stealth, so we just stood there together, not doing anything, until Elor and Kermit of the Northern Coalition arrived. Elor spotted us as fast as I've ever seen and killed me quick, with the help of Kermit. Laufer claimed ownershio of the mountain, since I had been killed, and he had killed Elor. I respawned, and with the power of Vergadain I was back in the fray at the mountain.

On the way there, I encountered Kermit, who was on the run from Laufer, I engaged both of them, and Kermit went down due to a temporary alliance between myself and Laufer. Again we climbed back up the mountain, and he said he owned it, I disputed that claim, and we both sat around in stealth for a while, both of us afraid to come out of stealth to attack each other. Nothing much happened until a Druid arrived in Dragon shape, I formed an alliance with this druid to kill Laufer, and we claimed ownership of the mountain together.

We waited for a while, and both of us rested to prepare for something, as Laufer hinted at help coming. Soon, a dirty Shadow Legion fighter by the name of ShimmerGloom arrived, and started attacking my dragon ally, however ShimmerGloom was no match for my dragon pal's stunning fists.

I gathered my other ally at this time, Black Burn of the Ancient Ones, who was a Red Dragon Disciple Bard, and the dragons took ownership over Giant Mountain, as it was meant to be. On my way up the mountain with Black Burn, I found ShimmerGloom in a corner, and seeing as she had fought me before I killed her quick, and to my great surprise she dropped an object I had never seen before by the name of a Soul Stone! I picked it up, and suddenly I was filled with inspiration from Vergadain. My ally and I went up the mountain and killled all who opposed us up there, and claimed ownership of the mountain again. At this point, my dragon ally had to leave, and I was left alone on the mountain. I was the sole owner of Dragon mountain! My goal had been accomplished, and I left the mountain to defile the temple of the Last Alliance.

I arrived at the Last Alliance and headed for their temple, and inside I found Trusek Rhaotep and Sock Monkey, I killed Trusek quickly and started defiling their shrine and trying to destroy it, but I was killed by Sock Monkey quickly. To my great surprise, the Soul Stone given to me by Vergadain resurrected me, and I entered the fray with Sock Monkey again, who by this time, had raised Trusek. Sadly, I was killed soon after, but after I respawned I was sent a message by the Revered Mother, and I was to head for the Temple in the Dwarven Stronghold as soon as possible. I ran as fast as possible, and managed to honor the Revered Mother, Berronar Truesilver, by worshipping at her statue before the world collapsed upon itself.

All in all, some great PvP battles, some fun times up on the mountain.

The best part of the whole fight! Situations like that are what define the term 'classic'.

That was some good battling...

but it's still my mountain
