i dunno, underpants gnomes have the wisdom to understand that stolen underpants lead to profits, but not the intelligence to understand how to make it happen.

chosen class: cleric.

Would it not be the intelligence to come up with a creative plan, but lacks the wisdom to see it is doomed to fail ?

Int = It is raining

Wis = Lets get under cover

I think a merchant PC would be a Rogue, i guess they could be clerics but limited to worship of Banjo.

Um ya, inbreeding to +10 CON? Lets try -10 as the poor guys suffer from any number of illnesses, hemophelia being one of them. Then again, we can just say its all magic and forget the whole deal, as you were trying to be funny, I hope. :D

Gnomes are nill, as far as D&D is concerned, they aren't going to be in the new 4.0 rules, and neither will Half Orc. So gnome fans, cling on to your gnomes before they disapear.

They will be in the 4.0 rules, just not as player races.

Or, and I forget who said this, "Intelligence is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."
