Is it an exploit?

Post by Thorac »

last night 10mins before reset nog logged on and raided NC for LA's relic he took his then logged in cradle room for easy cap, then logged back took NC's relic then logged again, logged back to see if they had more then the reset happened. Now i am not one to complain alot but to me this is a plain cut a dry exploit of the reset as he knows when the reset happens and was not on prior to this at all.

First, this is not new... Ive done it against IO in Garagoth ie.
Second, if you want to know if it is an exploit, pls send a PM directly to a DM. Else we will have here a discussion with ppl not involved. :) Like me.
Or even worse, some will copy the exploit before a definite rule is written in stone.

This has been going on since NS4 went live. Its annoying as all hell, but not a single one of the staff has ever voiced an opinion so it seems they have given their consent through their silence.
I put the IO in socIOpath!

Just previous to that event, I had run from Evenshire to dragon, ran to TC cradle, grabbed the SL relic, then ran aaaaaaaaall the way back thru Menzo (the long way). Took me about 20 minutes.

Then he logs on and in 5 minutes, LA has their relic back and has capped another.

Kinda discouraging 8(

By the core definition of an exploit: Yes it is.

Is it an exploit that DM's are worried/care or are concerned about. NO it isn't.

Is it in "fair" gamesmanship? That's up to you guys to decide.

Pretty much sums it up.

It's funny.. the first time I read this, I thought you were talking about Galahad raiding LA cuz that's pretty much what he did..well tried to do ... Nog stopped him :D anyhow.

The general rule is; if you can do it, and it 1) doesn't use bugs within the game engine and 2) doesn't hurt someone (repeatedly), then it's probably ok to do.

I guess I'm not clear, are you saying he pulled the relic out and then logged, thus dropping it on the floor just before the reset?

...quick trip home, I guess...my understanding is that a relic outside the home cradle gets put back in the home cradle at a reset, mittigating the need to run it back. Thus if everyone's logging off for a reset and you raid, pull your home relic, then drop it by logging it will take itself home. You will then be free to pull their relic when you log back in and if you're quick about it you may be able to do it before anyone logs in to defend.

...and if this is not how the script works, please correct me. I think this was put in place when MD complained about -BB- dropping relics in random places. I could do a search, but I'm lazy.

This does not use bugs in the game engine, but it does use the scripts put in place for the relics to the advantage of the raider. I don't really believe that exploits can be limited to bugs within the game engine, as Defender of the Pure + Haste was listed as an exploit.

If the raiding steps I listed above are not an exploit then SWEET BEANS! I will be parking a toon in each cradle to empty them prior to the evening reset. :)

This won't actually gain *you* very much as only your own relic will go back to your cradle. All the rest will return to their own.

Ok, so it does work that way?

That was what I think Thorac was saying:

Step 1: pop your relic and drop it just before a reset.
Step 2: wait for the reboot - WOOOSH! Your relic goes home on it's own legs.
Step 3: log in and nab their relic and run home.

Gives you a nice head start, eh?

I believe that was the question: Would you consider the above steps to be an exploit?
It's dirty and underhanded, but if the staff rules that it's fine then us lawful folks are ok, right? ;)

yeah works great till the defenders notice yer pattern. then you have all available defenders standing around relic at reset tehn all you get is an enema with 5feet of steel and a igms tan. thanx the gods for random cradle defeat times!
