Turn Undead
Turn Undead
Just posting some miscellaneous info on Turn Undead that may or may not be in the wiki... if someone wants to update it for me that'd be great... If there's a conflict between this post and the wiki, I think I'm right.
Hhere's some info about how Turn Undead works:
-Caster level is cleric level + half paladin level + half blackguard level.
-Plane-touched PC subraces are considered outsiders with respect to Turn Undead (All Genasi, Aasimar, Tiefling, Githzerai, Githyanki, and Azerblood).
-Knockdown from turning effect lasts 3 rounds (18 seconds).
-Divine damage from turning effect is 1d4 per caster level. However, it won't kill the turned creature, unless it has divine damage vulnerability... can bring it to the point of near death however.
-Cleric elemental domains (earth, fire, water, air) can only turn the elemental of that type. (So earth domain cleric can only turn earth elementals, NOT air, water, and fire elementals).
-Good/Evil domain clerics can turn the outsiders of the opposite alignment (so clerics with evil domain can turn good outsiders, but not evil/neutral outsiders).
-Plant domain clerics can turn vermin.
-Planar Turning feat allows you turn outsiders of any alignment.
-When a creature is turned, there's a 1 minute period of time where they're immune to being turned.
-Constructs are turned the same way as any other race (no magical damage). You still must be a Destruction domain cleric however.
-Outsiders don't get spell resistance added to their hit die to resist turning, only their hit die and turn resistance... like all other races.

Re: Turn Undead
I'm trying to figure out if I should bother putting this in the Wiki. Having a level 40 Cleric, I can say from experience that Turn Undead is the most useless ability ever.

Re: Turn Undead
I wouldn't say that. If I had had the forethought when I was building Rayne, I would have thrown some Outsider turning in there just for comical knockdown effect in pvp.
+Scrawny clerical elf throws out a plea to the gods, grasping his holy symbol and rebukes the marauding earth genasi onto its knees. "Convert or Die heretic" he snarls as his morningstar careens for the offending genasi brow.+
sounds fun to me anyway, hehe... plus it looks comical when undead and turned get thrown halfway across the screen from a turn.

Re: Turn Undead
But its based off of Hit Die, so you can't really turn anything other than lowbies and those skeletons in Old Town North.

Re: Turn Undead
Its based of hit die and a turn modifier. Also Sun Domain gives you an extra 1d4 bonus... so a level 40 cleric can turn a level 40 player.
The turn modifier is kind of tricky, but essentially its a number between -4 and +4... and its generated by charisma and a d20.

Re: Turn Undead
I noticed that elemental clerics can turn elementals of their type. Is this in addition to undead?
And Good domain clerics can turn undead and Evil outsiders (of which certain listed PC races are members of)?
And, so I understand, a cleric that takes Plant & Destruction domains, and takes Planar Turning as a feat, can turn all of the following:
Undead
Vermin
Constructs
Outsiders of any alignment
But not elementals
Are summons considered outsiders?
Definitely liking it, so the more I can learn now the less embarrassed I'll be when I get to play again!

Re: Turn Undead
Your list is correct... all those except elementals.
Undead summons are undead... dragon knight summons (e.g. solar, balor, and slaad) are outsiders I believe.
So a cleric with Good domain should be able to turn a Balor, but not a Slaad or Solar.

Re: Turn Undead
And the lower level summonses like the Celestial Cow and Infernal Chicken? Are they considered "animals" or some kind of "outsider"?

Re: Turn Undead
They would be outsiders. They are summoned from the outer planes.
He who exercises no forethought but makes light
of his opponents is sure to be captured by them.
