Topics marked Read/Unread

When I log in to the forums, I have topics that were unread since the last visit bolded (or highlighted), so that I can find them without trying to remember the date/time I was last on.
Recently (last week or so, maybe) if I log out or am logged out, the next time I log in, everything has been marked read whether it actually was or not.
Is there a setting on my profile or browser that I need to set so that messages are only marked read when they are actually read, and not "all marked read upon log-off"?
