black screen after character creation

i can play reflections fine, however when i try to make a toon on prime i get all the way past subrace configuration, then i get a black screen and there it stays.

the game is live somehow, since i can hit 'r' and i will hear snoring. 'i' will bring up the inventory with the book in it. howver if i try to right-click-use, i have no target to click on. clcking on the center of the screen (where my character ought to be) does not "activate" the targetting cursor, neither does clicking in the top right where my character portrait should be.

i have no haks or other mods loaded.

I thought I'd mention this because the same thing happened to 2 friends of mine (both can play reflections, both get this same error on prime). one guy even reinstalled/repatched his game from scratch and got the same thing (and was able to connect to reflections fine.).

Best bet is to type /dm (hope that a DM is on) and type something like "I am stuck with a black screen and need some help please" - then they port you to a "special" place and sort it out for you.

i did that, didnt get a response. out of persistence i logged out and logged back in, and the opening cut scene played properly and i was able to get in (in stark contrast to reflections, where as far as i can tell if you log out before getting into the actuall game you are hosed forever).

figured i'd mention it since first time players are likely to get the black screen, figure the server's broke and never come back. hell even i almost never came back

the past few characters i have created (over the past 30 days i would say ... all have experienced this black screen upon entrance -- however, as you said, the "planar rift" loading screen does not appear, and relogging once or in some cases twice it will finally load in properly...

i'm glad its not just me

It's a subrace thing. Prime doesn't seem to relog properly after creation and picking a subrace.
A manual relog should fix the problem.

i think it has something to do with Leto..but i don't know. if you choose a subrace that alters stats you will have to manually relog. if you use a book and it doesn't properly log you out..you'll have to relog then too.

A number of my toons (mules specifically) had this problem. Relogging fixed some however it didn't fix another and Mask kindly fixed me up porting me to the lounge

We do this whenever someone calls out for a black screen. Next time you see a DM on, ask him or her about it and all your toon will be "fixed" this way.
