was talkign with modred the other day.. and he mentioned somthign about how gate in PnP didnt summon only a balor, but it was literally a gate to the other planes....
so maybe when gate is cast it can bring up a little conversation.
few options (depending on alignment) what kind of creature you can pull from the planes (maybe epic chracters can get elemental princes etc?) or to travel to one of the planes(maybe at a xp and/or gp charge depending on distance [to a portal] or difficulty)
just a suggestion....
go ahead... tell me how it messes up being able to cast a balor in the midst of combat... then ask me if i care.... maybe you can cast the spell then pound on the number option of which creautre u wanna summon...
either way, would make things interesting... and, add more work for the devs!
maybe they can get around to this soon!
GATE!? more than 1 use!?

I suppose that, let's say, level 30+ sorcs wiz or clerics could use gate to move freely between planes with no error maybe?
Speaking of summoning creatures... well it doesn't exactly work like you think, i mean, not all the creatures are so willing to be summoned from their plane to fight for you
And force an elemental lord to fight for you seems a little too much, maybe just a level 40 pure caster should be allowed to do that

What? I don't remember there ever being a error possibility in PnP. It simply puts a two way gate between you and the plane of your choice. You have the option of bringing on summon from that gate to your existence, which serves you if you are of proper alignment or you have protection. OR you can use gate to travel to that plane. I thought at lvl 17 you get complete control of the gate, besides why would players in NWN ever want to use the transportation function if you teleported at random to places?
Although this is a cool implementation idea, making error possibilities in the spell would only frustrate users, not give them a useable tool

I've tried fire, i've tried faith, and i've tried force, all I have left is hope.
Hrm ? I played first edition ad&d for years. I'll double check my books.
Ah, I've looked in the phb and dmg.
It opens a gateway to another plane, where the being desired is living. But the only 'guarantee' is that there is 100 percent chance something will come thru the gate. Even if the caster wants say Asmodeus to show up, a pit fiend may be all the caster gets.
Its a spell to bring a being thru, not for the caster and party to walk thru.
Sorry, I used Interdimensional Gates in my campaign and confused the two when I posted above.
