Faction Reset Suggestion

Post by randdo »

Losing your faction can happen from time to time, due to several possible reasons. Some as simple as a misplaced KD or the wrong spell being cast. Often it happens during the heat of a PvP raid within your own city and through no fault of your own, you turn red to your home guards. In close quarter battles, some mistakes just can't not be avoided as you don't even know that you have committed them. Regaining your faction is another sorry altogether. Sometimes it is done swiftly with "aid" other times it is left to "discretion" which can be controversial. So here's a suggestion.

Why not leave earning the faction back 100% in the player's hands by.

1. A NPC be set up in each city similar to the Devil Angle in that it is the one to assign the "Faction" quest by giving a token or by teleporting the PC into the "faction quest zones". This would also be the NPC that the PC would have to return the retrieved item to.

2. Upon completion of the quest, the NPC removes all related quest items and restores the PC's faction as well as resetting the "job" identifier to "0" so that lost jobs can be re-acquired.

3. Creating a few "special" zones could be set up that are not accessible except when a player wishes to earn their faction back. That the zones be design so that only the player who lost their faction can access them. (Solo Quest)

4. Have 3 or 4 common zones through which the PC must battle then enter into a "directional" zone where they must speak with an NPC or use a portal that would send them into the correct "faction" zone. A couple of zones that is geared to their own faction. That way, the faction zone would
have spawn geared to the various builds from that particular faction.

5. The goal of entering into these zones is to retrieve a no drop quest item that is returned to the Quest NPC.

6. To avoid exploiting this by making a character in one faction and trying to switch to another, a No Drop Token be designed that Identifies to the DM's, PC and NPC alike the chosen faction of the PC when they come through the rift. A Citizen Badge if you like.

Thanks for listening.

whats really sad is it takes more than just knocking down a faction gaurd to lose your faction. a lot of times you actually have to kill more than 1 to lose your faction...i've tested this before

I don't know why I bother.

Chase:
You must have that "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT" set to a hotkey as it seems to be your most common reply. I hate to tell you Chase, IT IS BROKEN and here is how. Some DM's here, for whatever reason, hold personal grudges against players. I know this because I have both witnessed it and experienced it myself. I have seen DM's in some cases give the player an impossible task to do to earn their faction back then put the word out. In the next instance I've seen factions reset by DM's with just a word of "be more careful". In other words depending on the DM's mood and "Personal" feelings towards a player is how a situation is dealt with. DM's of all people, wether or not they like a player, should in the least be able to treat all players with some sort of "status quo". If you want exact personal example with names, please PM me and I will provide it.
By having some sort of system (any system) as I suggested would remove this aspect in this situation. A system of sorts would equal the playing field for all.

Amoenotep:
I have experience Faction loss by killing one NPC in my town. Have you tried your experiment in all cities? Perhaps some cities are more forgiving than others.

Lorkar1:
Congratulations. You've added the idea of putting some kind of counter on the idea that you can only regain your faction 2 or 3 or 5 times in your character's life them it gets tagged as an Enemy of the State in which it can never regain the faction back.

In Closing:
I would like to SUGGEST that people replying to posts in forums or threads asking for IDEA - SUGGESTION be respected and not belittled. I won't post in general any more when opinions are asked for by DEV because of the ridicule that goes on if your opinions is in opposition to another's. I PM my reply directly to the DEV that asked for "opinions". If your looking to kill input then keep it up. Keep in mind that when someone gives an opinions on an idea or makes a suggestion they are "sharing themselves" to some degree. They are looking to contribute to NS4 not destroy it. When an idea or suggestion is belittled it makes the person feel as I do with my opening comment. "I don't know why I bother."

I have never seen replies that have said "Nice Idea, thanks, we'll look into it and open it for discussion if we decide to run with it.". OR "Your IDEA has already been brought up and discussed. Thanks for the input.". For some reason people have to make snide remarks. Belittle the idea, etc. This is something I don't understand, because the end result is the ideas stops coming and you close the doors to more input.

Before NS4 came out of Beta there was a great debate as to what level a character should be before hitting the wolves in FD because monks were able to do so at level 9 with Imp evasion as well as drow and a couple of others. There was a CRY of FOWL play. Some DM's figure level 12 was ok some though level 14 while others stated level 16. So depending what DM was on and what level your character was in FD killing wolves controlled wether or not you lived or were killed by wolves top suffer death penalties. (Personal Experience)

I had gotten into the discussion under another name. I don't know if my idea was on the drawing board or not, But I suggested that a "Gate Keeper" of sorts be put in place, One that would teleport pc's into the killing zone of FD or have the Ferryman not sell travel tokens to players under a certain level. It was explained that something like this would remove all doubt. Low and behold, the Ferryman idea is in game.

When I discovered that I felt proud of being able to make a contribution. This is the first time I am mentioning that it was an Idea I had. I am sure that other's have had their ideas used in one form or another, or that their idea opened discussion within the DEV team to come up with some different with the same outcome.

Belittle the poster, ideas, opinions or suggestions, you kill posting. Kill posting, limit where NS4 can go.

just jumpin in here quick, don't take offense to it.

when you hit/kill 1 guard all gaurds around you become red. almost every time this happens if you leave the areas until after a reset its not a bad enough offense to permanently grudge you from your faction. always make sure you go back through the combat logs and it will tell you if you lost your faction or not. just being hostile doesn't mean you lost your faction.
