Random Stuff

Post by Ebenezer Grymm »

Just random questions I've been thinking about.

1. If everyone knows that caster DC's don't scale well with epic saves, meaning epic saves are so high it makes it very hard to have any sort of reliable DC for spells, than why do 90% of the high end items have +saves vs Death? I can see the +'s like on the White Robe and like +2 or 3 to universal, but having a ton of items on for death saves, when hardly any monsters cast death spells, just a little unbalancing against casters. Like the deck isnt stacked against us enough already, being reduced to using only a handful of spells because of what is party friendly/party friendly but not town guard friendly/nonparty friendly/or not useful in pvp if there are even rats around (Isaacs).

2. What is up with the Death Archers? 100's dead, and not so much as a gold piece has dropped. Let alone the rapier. And whats up with them switching the bow out right off the bat?

3. And how bout a high level wiz robe? Theres not 1 arcane caster in pos or neg, and sorcs get the robe of air and cloaks and the shadow staff for extra spells, but the best wizard robe comes from amazons (Mantle of the Ritualist)? Sure we get the shadow staff and the demilich helm, but we need extra spells per day a whole lot more than sorcs do, and our gear loadout sucks compared to what they can wear.

4. How can anyone say Pale Masters should be evil? I can see that line of thinking if this were a RP server, but last time I checked this is a PvP server.

5. And how can anyone say Pale Masters need a nerf when a Monk/Shadowdancer can singlehandedly walk in and out of a room full of 12 (or more) people unscathed with a relic after being debuffed by grabbing it and live to tell the tale constantly? It's bad enough that spamming hips clears your action queue, but it also wastes spells. Even with auto quicken spells dont go off fast enough and if caught in the right frame the spell will be spent and never actually go off.

I'm thinking since you can't change how the hardcoded HIPS works, you could do what dozens of other servers have done and just move it to SD lvl 10. Thats hardly unfair considering SD is the ONLY class of all the classes where if someone is not built specifically to beat an SD, using half their feats to raise spot or listen, being an elf, and lets not talk about adding monk speed to that, that they have no chance to beat them or even compete. Pale Master can be beaten by any one or any group. The melee Cleric builds that spam the overpowered no save blindness Word of Faith builds can be beaten by anyone or any group. But a Shadowdancer can only be beaten by someone 100% specced to take them down, and then certaintly not someone without the speed to keep up with the monk versions of them, so SD definitely needs a big nerf bat to the face.

I think thats about it. Answer at will.

I think that spellcasters should get a +1 spell dc for every third epic spellcaster level, and +1 on top of that if they are completely pure at 40th. So, +7 additional dc if a pure 40th spellcaster. That is how Three Towns, another PW Action server I have played on does it.

You're right, the spell dcs do need to be looked at if its possible for the devs to do so.

I also think that rolling a one on anything should be an automatic failure. Even the best of us should be able to:

In regards to #5 it is obivious to me that if you had 12 guys standing around defending and one SD got through then Bril wasnt there. As a monk/sd'er I have fought a couple of ppl from different factions that can spot me no problem, Bril's bard, Kpwn's cleric, Mloki's druid, and RyddWillows wizard come to mind ( omg thats 4 different classes ** sarcasim** ). You complain about SD's yet play a faction that has one of the best ( if not the best ) prc going. PMs, well personally I hate them, crit immune, sneak immune( there goes one advantage of a sd), immune to paralysis ( there goes a monks stunning fist) AC and hp bonuses, ( Willow what was your ac on your pm? ), top it all off with the best summons on the server if built right.
So tell me, why the h*** is it that when ppl cant find a way of defeating something they want it nerfed? Goes to show they have no imagination on builds imho. Observe, adapt and overcome and play the game.
This is not ment as a flame to you Eb, just my 2 canuck cents worth

No offense taken Drac, especially since I wasn't referring to a raid on MA, I was talking about BB raiding LA, with Aramis there, and Foramin getting away.

You mention Bril being our most well known bard/listener, but the thing that makes it worse for MA chars is that while we can definitely make builds that can hear SD's, for some reason the devs have taken every bit of speed away from MA (Barbs, monks), so that even if we can hear we can't follow. But thats the choice we make by playing in Gara I guess.

Of course it makes sense that the rogue/mage faction would be the slowest, and the dwarves would be speed demons. Like I said above, it's not an RP server.

And if you were referring to people being able to hear Winterhawk, you've told me personally she's built like crap, I'm pretty sure Eb has heard her on occasion after getting her skills dropped by curse song.

PM's get listen as a class skill....that pretty much sums up the PM/SD debate there.

casters/rogues get haste/blinding speed....there goes your speed issue.

i can't for the life of me think of why the other ?'s were important...so, thats my answer.

The other ?'s were

1. Why does all the high lvl gear give such high +'s to saves vs spells when the epic save bonus vs. spell dc is so bad to begin with?

2. Whats wrong with the Death Archer loot?

3. Wheres the level 30 wizard robe?

4. was more of a statement than a question.

I could be wrong but I think everyone has the spell haste or blinding speed in some form or another. And speed is still an issue. But it's cool thats a perk of Monks and theres nothing wrong with that, I was talking about SD's.

And you're right, listen is a PM class skill. It's also a weapon master and barbarian and dwarven defender and many other classes skill too. But it's basically worthless for everyone but a elven bard using amplify, or a class thats spent a feat or 2 to build listen JUST to be able to hear a shadow dancer. And you know how many skill points them thar DD's and WM's get.

How many feats do you need to spend JUST to beat a Pale Master? How many skill points?

How many feats and skill points do you need to spend to beat any other class, besides an SD?

They are the only class you need to specifically devote a char to, and for that reason are probably the most powerful PrC. And they get thier defining ability at lvl 1. I'm suggesting move it to 10 like so many other servers have, there is a reason for it.

you would be very suprised to know how many SD's don't move very stealthy....they hide really really well...but can't walk quiet to save their lives.

+vs death gear is helpful as many of the mobs in the high lvl areas cast death spells with insance dc's..you need all the help you can get. not to mention some classes like roges, bards, SD's have notoriously low fort saves.

not sure whats wrong with the archer loot as i can't fix that.

you a wiz...your very very smart...you know its quality over quantity

SD's are only powerful if the person playing it is skilled.
I've had a solar that ripped through a lvl 40 monk/sd like he was stirring ale.

It's the same situation with mages. They've got the potential to be the best, but you can pretty easily screw them up.

You don't necessarily need to specialize your build to beat a SD. You need to specialize the WAY you play.

I think the point being Ebenezer is that SD's can be countered fairly easily with the right build but that build is left open to be vunerable in other ways. Just like all the other builds on this server fairly well balanced. All the griping about PM's will fade as everyone gets thier Anti-PM builds up there (wizzy/sorces, esf/esp clerics, Bards). Just as you'll have to start building anti-SD builds to counter your 1vs12 problem.

1> With the right focuses and build the DC's are devastating. My pre wipe wizard was infalliable and the dc's of alot of spells have improved since then with nerfs and books.
3> Agreed. Definitely a little light on Epic wiz gear. I really like the Lich armor and built an autostill wiz around it . damn good fun that one. Arcane crafted staves are real nice when upgraded. Wizards are a really strong class. No other class I can think of can Pwn aswell 1v1(though bards come close).

Quoted for truth. My level 35 mage ( 34 sorc, 1 pali NO SPOT ? LISTEN ) has a hard time against sders but there ot invincable.

Try new tactics other than timestop + igms + Bigsbies. The same thing only goes so far.

And about the action q.... ever try not targeting the sd? Horrid wilting, Neg burst, Wail? hell ball? incenerating cloud? ... after a while they try to run then bam ... bigsbies, igm , igms, win.

The problem here that alot of people arent realizing is that your not creative enough. and there are some classes certain builds cant beat.

I have never beaten a pm/fighter/bard 1v1 with my mage.... Have a real rough time..... but thats how its played. Tough cookies to me and i move on. the +s to saves are on gear... yeah this can be annoying so try different tactics.... Ever try power word kill?

There is an answer to everything .... most answers .. especial about class unfairness can be summed up with one word ... Guilds.

You guild should have 1-3 people who are anti sd, 1-3 people anti magic,,,, so on and so forth. You cant do it all your self ... to think you have a uber fantastic unbeatable build is silly.

wizards are fine besides some upity gear, but even then, like ameonononootep said, quality over Quantity, i have had many wiz, and many flavors, and i have never had a problem in pvp, not even when fighting higher lvl chars. if u have a hard time playing a wizard is because you either arent capable of understandiing how it works, have no clue how to make a working wizzard build, are a noob that likes uber gear, are a noob, or you junst dont know and are not meant to play a wizard after all...

in my many accounts and lost accounts i got :

a high AC wiz with high DC
a hipsing Wiz with insane spot and high DC
a regular wizzie with inasne DC
and many more, and i know how to play em all as i have revamped them many times....

REVAMP is the key word ladies

learn your build and how it works, BioBuilds are for noobs and are beat by harpers all the time.

and on all of my wizzies, no SD can kill em cuz i know how to beat a SD and im not telling you!

along the lines of this topic, why is it barbs are so slow? I mean by the book they should be close to asfast as a monk for a short time. infact for a short burst they are suppose to be faster than a monk if i am not wrong.

so why is it barbs are so darn slow.

In PnP, Barbs are given a base land speed increase of 10 feet per round. That's roughly 33% for a medium sized humanoid wearing medium or light armor. Why Bioware choose only 10% I cannot say. We have tried to take steps with the Pure Class Bonuses to bring Barbs up to speed, but only time will tell.

If you want to bring up other fun wierd Bioware-isms when compared to PnP.

Why don't you move 33% slower wearing Heavy Armor?

Why does evasion work at all when you're wearing greater than Light Armor or a shield?

Why are Monks and Pallies allowed to reclasss into Monk/Pally after multiclassing out of it?

How come a Tower shield gives AC and not total concealment instead. (By 3.0 Rules, not 3.5 which is currently the case.)

How come restorative spells and ressurecting spells weren't given their proper increased casting time?

How come many spells weren't given an exp or materials cost, as in PnP?

And a big one, God oh God, why to bonuses of the same type generally stack and not overlap? (Ex, enhancements, moral, ect..)

Those are some of the questions I've asked myself at some point. The answer probably is a combination of laziness and making things more fun or simple or simply time constrains.
