Faction Merchant

Post by Aarkon Draco »

this has been posted before but i figgure once more cant hurt. this is a bit diffrent than the other threads on this. i was thinking a roaving merchant in each faction similar to the planar merchant but instead of a portal it would be a NPC that randomly appears in citys in each faction no nessicarly the main city ( tho not all factions have more than one city) if you find the merchant you can buy Faction items from your faction (northern star for NC the various Greatswords from AO ect )

the reason i suggest this is that its allwase bothered me that in order to get the gear from your faction you need to either A> make a toon not of your faction or B> buy or trade it from someone who raided your faction. both options pose a problem for thoes Loyal to their faction as bioth require the deaths of your faction NPCs. adding the roaving merchant allows players to get the gear they want without causing unwanted deaths to their faction.

just an idea take it or leave it

I'd like to see something like this as well. There are some nice faction items (NC gear comes to mind for those without Evasion going through FD). It would be nice to be able to give members of a faction access to their faction's gear.

The roaming merchant is one possible way to give faction members access to faction gear. Another way could be to have the vanilla, level 1 gear merchant in each faction sell the faction gear. Since these merchants sell all types of gear, the faction gear could be slipped in fairly seamlessly.

I am in total agreement with Mr. Draco here.

I think it would seem reasonable to put some of the named npc's, that are to be found in each city, to work. How about they give out faction gear for performing some type of work/quest for their city.

An example: Find Lagnar and talk to him. He proceeds to tell you that the high mage of Menzo has been known to display scalped dwarven beards as a trinkets on his knick-knack shelf. This enrages Lagnar to no end. If you bring back the robes of this high mage, to prove that you defeated him, Lagnar will trade you his hammer for them.

Would be more work, yes. The NS4 community could contribute work/quest ideas for their prospective cities. Maybe some scripting and such too.

Yeah i like this idea as well, just make the merchant faction on and instead of making him roaving make him in all factions permantately.

Just a thought also, is it possible to make these item non droppable and only sellable back to the merchant. The only exploit i can see with this is creating a toon on that faction only to xfer the gear to a toon from another faction.

Making it non-droppable prevent xfering it can making it only sellable back to that merchant (or any merchant) allows the removal of it when you are done

Just make is only usable by a specific alignment and have the faction be more alignment specific.

Or alternatively yes non dropable would be good, but then the weapons could not be disarmed either.

I like the idea of trading like for like items from enemy factions. This quite neatly solves the problem of it being 'too easy' to obtain faction gear, because you have to put the exact same effort in to get someone else's. Then there's no need to mess around making it non-drop and no need to come up with prices.
Also has a half decent RP feel about it 'prove to us you've killed our enemies and we'll reward you'.

I agree with Bink; there's room for some questing in there. I do feel guilty wearing the armor of a fallen Hand, knowing I failed to protect them during a raid...which would be the only option to get faction items and stay 100% loyal. There are NPCs who could offer these quests for like-level items.

Seems silly that factions would outfit their guards with the gear, but it would be off-limits to the heroes.
