I did a quick search and didnt come up with anything so here goes.
Has there ever been any thoughts about introducing crowbars or something along those lines to the mod? I would think there would be an alternative way to open doors and chests for the strength based toons without destroying what you are trying to open(and with chests the contents inside). And sometimes I like to leave no trace of my passing and bashing doors kind of defeats that. Maybe using the Str modifier x2 + half of your Strength as a check. That way you wouldn't be out of whack with a lock pick skill of equivalent level. I understand at higher levels this might not be a viable approach but it is something to look at.

As it is, it's easy enough for any dex based class to take a point or two of open lock, and then just use the dex bonus and take 20 to get most of the locks open.

There's no reason other than it being work to do so to introduce str checks for opening stuff.
This seems like one of the more easily customizable ideas, so the devs would be able to set the required DC to anything they want. Then the player would ahve to make a str check of some sort and voila.
In order to prevent the spam method, the devs could always put a timer on using the str chk option (like the timers that used to be on some subrace abilities and job tokens).

why go through all the trouble. a Mere 1 skill point on "Open Lock" is enought to open any DC=40.
at least that makes use of the skill. its there for a reason right? putting 1 skill point on open lock would cost much skill points. then if you want to save skill points then buy 2rings with +5 OpenLock. and tehre was a glove with a +OpenLock then use a key that totals for more than DC=40 depending onthe glove you used and the key you used.
Much like taking the Skill "Lore" if you want to save money on ID'ing either have someone ID you or get DC=30 for it (of course again use gears to enhance your skill) or you can always put a raw 30skill point on Lore if you want

you say a rouge can be sueful taking points in open lock...well that rouge could kill 2 birds with one stone and take UMD, making the open lock scroll available as well as other things, bypassing the need for the redundant open lock stat.....
there are only one or two very hard to unlock doors in atheria ....one is underground and smells funny (if it still exists since the changes went in , i havent been down there in a while) , and the other is the door to the moleman city
