Crafted Gear

Post by CrazyJ »

Looking at the double axes on the wiki.... the crafted ones actually appear to do *less* damage than the standard store-bought axe.

Why would anyone use them?

We have updated the crafted gear a while ago, I'm not sure if the Wiki reflects the current gear or the gear that was in place before the update.

I added the wiki entries for the entire line of crafted double axes in September 2006 so they should still be accurate. I agree with CrazyJ, perhaps the crafted weapons that do less damage than storebought ones should instead do equal damage.

The advantages of crafted over store bought are (disadvantage are in red):

Level 1:
Massive Criticals: 1d6 vs 1d4
60% weight reduction

Level 5:
Massive Criticals: 2d4 vs 1d6
60% weight reduction

Level 9:
Additional Damage: 1d6 slashing vs 1d8 slashing
Massive Criticals: 1d10 vs 1d8
60% weight reduction

Level 13:
Additional Damage: 1d4 slashing + 1d4 piercing vs 1d10 slashing
Massive Criticals: 1d12 vs 1d10
Keen <-- huge advantage for a level 13 weapon
60% weight reduction

Level 16 (not storebought, but listed anyway):
Additional Damage: 1d6 slashing + 1d6 piercing vs 2d6 slashing (varied dmg type is an advantage since a lot of mobs have slashing resistance/immunity)
60% weight reduction

Level 20 has been omitted because I'm not aware of a generic level 20 double axe.

Varied damage type is a disadvantage if you run into an enemy with reduction to both damage types though--more of your damage gets eaten by the reduction even before % resists come into play.

Better to have all your damage be one type most of the time...

Right on, CrazyJ.

I remember when I was going around with my first monk build, and found some Composite Leather Gloves. I was so excited when I saw +1d6 damage of all 3 types. So, when I hit lvl 16, I started using them (was using razored) and my damage went WAY down.
