Server Capacity

Post by kingfatzo »

DO NOT GO OFF TOPIC - PLEASE !!!!! no need to turn this into another post filled with mindless babbles repeating things discussed over and over.....  8)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THis is just an observational thought that i figured i would throw out there, but for all i know, it is being pondered by the devs as i write this....

obviously since the rebuilding of the server it has been ALOT more crowded compared to before the wipe....and we have all noticed that the CAP has been lowered from 46 to 38..... It seems that the server runs flawlessly even at max capacity which is truly awesome....

I have also noticed that the server has been crowded at unusual times compared to before the wipe....like 1 in the afternoon eastern time it was Full...

what i am proposing/suggesting would be to add a few extra slots (even up to 42) to allow a bit more room for all of us....it may aid in reducing or even eliminating the time needed to wait for a slot to open and prevent someone from getting the shaft when they relog a different toon....

Has the Dev team considered this to see how the server will run ? it seems that it should make little difference on the load...

again, i always appreciate the feedback. THx :D

Fatz.

I would love to see a few extra lots opened up. Now that the server has been upgraded so much, I think that adding a few slots wouldn't do much damage. It'd certainly make it easier to get in, and to attract new players.

It was lower when they first opened up the server again.

I figured they were working it up slowly to make sure nothing goes terribly wrong.

I have assumed that as well, tho it would b great to know for the community as a whole if the dev's goal is to bring the server up in capacity.

It is being discussed but better to take things slow and make sure everything runs perfect. Keep in mind as Lokey said before, the hardware has been upgraded but the bandwith has not so, baby steps and lets make sure there are no problems.

Well, with the server reaching capacity as often as it is now, I think maybe splitting NS into a cluster again may be a good idea. We're a fairly popular server, and I think we're also attracting a lot of new blood as well.

I'd prefer no to have to...I like always being able to find someone to party with. Here's a question though, would it be possible to implement a mechanism to transfer characters between servers?

The cluster wasn't a group of servers running the same copy of the module like NS3.5 exists today. Each server in the old NS4 cluster ran a specific section of the world. For example one server ran the areas surrounding the Last Alliance territory and Avendell. Another server ran the areas surrounding Sleeth and Giant Mountain. The area transition between Avendell and the Dark Forest would portal you from "the LA server" to "the Sleeth server".

the cluster was split among the faction specific territories...which means as soon as someone hostile touched foot in your house you would hunt them down and send them home.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.
