New Player Thoughts

Greetings, just a couple of thoughts from a new player, so please take them with as such, and try to not be offended. No ofense is intended in any way.

First, wow, nice world, great premise, luv the character creation.

Situation;

Upon entering the world as a good algined based character, it has been my observatoin there there is litterly no one to group with at all. Either the majority of the other players on line are evil algined or what few good folks that are about happen to be of such a higher level as to make grouping impossible.

Sugestion;

I understand, and agree with the desire to have players group with each other, but if you actually do want to foster faction based interal role played conflict, you are going to have to provide a means for low level characters to solo so that there is some hope of attracting a basic population to each faction. If all you can do is log on, try to do something, and die repeatledly because every encounter is intented for a group, you will not be able to keep any new players.

Right now, as it stands, if you want to play, you have to have a group. If you want a group, you have to be on the side that is in power.

Very few people actually pay attention to alignment when partying to level. It's only really relevant for relic raiding and the occasional PK. I don't really worry about it very much...

you can solo very easy at low lvls at any faction. there are jobs also to get you going. youll be ok

The problem is that not every faction has jobs. This is bad, because you have factions with nothing to do, thus leading to boredom and problems.

if you cant find something to do in ns4.then i hate to say it. but its time to move on.
we have 1 of the biggest and best mods going

I agree! ns4 is where it's 'at' so much to challenge you without resorting to CR350 mobs and uber gear.

BUT, he does have a point... some servers give you few levels for free at the beginning.

On NS4, new players enter the planar rift from elsewhere...so, wouldn't they possibly have had a few levels before they were sucked into another dimension?? This could be a solution to help new people, because really, you don't usually see level 1-4 on the server, and even if you do, if they are veterans with friends/guild, then they can go from 1-4 in a VERY short time.

The alternative might be to put a shrine in each factions 'temple' and if the new player uses the shrine to pray to the gods, they would be given some nice cleric buffs (stat boosts, haste, regen, stoneskin etc...) that would get them a few levels if they ran right out and started leveling.

So you don't suddenly lose a 1 time thing like that due to a reset, or crash, it could be used once per game day until you hit level 5 or something. (and if you try to use it after level 5 it gives you a curse for being greedy).

Gildren, welcome to NS. In some ways any server with a wide level range and a world with large scope will have this problem in some fashion. The best solution is to drag some friends along, at least in getting started in a new world. It's why I don't do too much NWN playing these days, don't have a regular or even irregular group of friends playing the game anymore (playing with other devs usually means uncovering too much more to do lol).

We do see new characters and players often though. They're around and things are more party friendly than standard NWN by a long way.

At level one, no matter the class, it seems, ranged weapons and running away are your friends. It sure helps me get to level 2.

If you get bored here there is not many other servers that will keep you interested in my oppinion I think the only time I get bored is with one of my toons not the mod so I move onto another and come back to that one a day or so later.

As a new player you would I assume not know about everything that is going on around the place there is alot of places to go many things to see if stuck or lost a quick question on shout channel and you will be surprised how many players will help you out regardless of algnment or faction

I realize that NS is just about the most kick [censored] realm around, which is why I play here. I'm just saying that it would be nice if the devs could give a little nudge or something to the lesser factions, to help bring them back on par with the others.

I put this challenge to you watchwood build a uber toon in NC and promote it as much as you can get involved with Relic Raiding ( more to get NC name on shout for doing something ) and people will start to come it is like all forms of marketing word of mouth is the best advertising there is and it is free.

When I first started I played RK for ages they were/are small but I was sold on the faction by another. I then moved on to darker pastured for the same reasons so promote promotep promote

It's being worked on. My problem is my playing style, which usually involves something like Fighter-dokening myself into combat without thinking.

depending on which faction you join, you may be isolated from the majority of the player population until you gain enough levels so that its safe enough to venture away from your home city.....my reccomendations would be LA -- only because i commonly see low level parties running around town.... SL, and AO are also more "played"....

granted you may have already joined la and are still having a problem -- and thus, try to find a buddy or two that you know personally or from another server to drag along.... back when i started here, it was myself and two of my firends who came with me, so we werent alone in leveling our lowbies....

give it time - and it will be well worth it ! we can all attest to that
